Abstract

Systems and methods are disclosed for directed image capture of a subject of interest, such as a home. Directed image capture can produce higher quality images such as more centrally located within a display and/or viewfinder of an image capture device, higher quality images have greater value for subsequent uses of captured images such as for information extraction or model reconstruction. Graphical guide(s) facilitate content placement for certain positions and quality assessments for the content of interest can be calculated such as for pixel distance of the content of interest to a centroid of the display or viewfinder, or the effect of obscuring objects. Quality assessments can further include instructions for improving the quality of the image capture for the content of interest.

Claims (44)

1. A method of directed capture of building imagery, the method comprising:

displaying, on an image capture device display, a building of interest subject from a first camera position;

overlaying a graphical guide associated with the building of interest subject at the first camera position;

calculating a percentage of façade pixels of the building of interest subject at the first camera position displayed within the image capture device display;

determining a distance score of the façade pixels associated with the first camera position from a centroid of the image capture device display;

receiving a first quality assessment of the building of interest subject comprising position change instructions for the image capture device based on the distance score in association with the graphical guide; and

capturing a first image of the building of interest subject based on the first quality assessment.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

displaying, on an image capture device display, a building of interest subject from a second camera position;

overlaying a second graphical guide associated with the building of interest subject at the second camera position;

receiving a second quality assessment of the building of interest subject in association with the second graphical guide; and

capturing a second image of the building of interest subject based on the second quality assessment.

3. The method of claim 2 further comprising creating a multidimensional building model from at least the first and second captured images.

4. The method of claim 2 , wherein receiving the second quality assessment further comprises:

calculating a percentage of façade pixels of the building of interest subject at the second camera position displayed within the image capture device display;

determining a distance score of the façade pixels associated with the second camera position from a centroid of the image capture device display.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein receiving the first quality assessment further comprises calculating a percentage of pixels obscuring the building of interest subject from the first camera position displayed within the image capture device display.

6. The method of claim 2 , wherein receiving the second quality assessment further comprises calculating a percentage of pixels obscuring the building of interest subject from the second camera position displayed within the image capture device display.

7. The method of claim 5 , wherein receiving the first quality assessment further comprises receiving position change instructions for the image capture device based on the percentage of obscured pixels.

8. The method of claim 2 , wherein receiving the second quality assessment of the building of interest subject in association with the graphical guide further comprises position changes for the image capture device.

9. The method of claim 4 , wherein receiving the second quality assessment further comprises receiving position change instructions for the image capture device based on the distance score.

10. The method of claim 6 , wherein receiving the second quality assessment further comprises receiving position change instructions for the image capture device based on the percentage of obscured pixels.

11. One or more non-transitory computer readable medium storing instructions that, upon execution, cause a computing device to perform operations including:

displaying, on an image capture device display, a building of interest subject from a first camera position;

overlaying a graphical guide associated with the building of interest subject at the first camera position;

calculating a percentage of façade pixels of the building of interest subject at the first camera position displayed within the image capture device display;

determining a distance score of the façade pixels associated with the first camera position from a centroid of the image capture device display;

receiving a first quality assessment of the building of interest subject comprising position change instructions for the image capture device based on the distance score in association with the graphical guide; and

capturing a first image of the building of interest subject based on the first quality assessment.

12. The one or more non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 11 , further storing instructions that, upon execution, cause a computing device to perform operations including:

displaying, on an image capture device display, a building of interest subject from a second camera position;

overlaying a second graphical guide associated with the building of interest subject at the second camera position;

receiving a second quality assessment of the building of interest subject in association with the second graphical guide; and

capturing a second image of the building of interest subject based on the second quality assessment.

13. The one or more non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 12 , further storing instructions that, upon execution, cause a computing device to perform operations including creating a multidimensional building model from at least the first and second captured images.

14. The one or more non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 12 , further storing instructions that, upon execution, cause a computing device to perform operations including:

calculating a percentage of façade pixels of the building of interest subject at the second camera position displayed within the image capture device display; and

determining a distance score of the façade pixels associated with the second camera position from a centroid of the image capture device display.

15. The one or more non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 14 , wherein receiving the second quality assessment further comprises receiving position change instructions for the image capture device based on the distance score.

16. The one or more non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 11 , wherein receiving the first quality assessment further comprises calculating a percentage of pixels obscuring the building of interest subject from the first camera position displayed within the image capture device display.

17. The one or more non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 16 , wherein receiving the first quality assessment further comprises receiving position change instructions for the image capture device based on the percentage of obscured pixels.

The one or more non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 12 , wherein receiving the second quality assessment further comprises calculating a percentage of pixels obscuring the building of interest subject from the second camera position displayed within the image capture device display.

19. The one or more non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 18 , wherein receiving the second quality assessment further comprises receiving position change instructions for the image capture device based on the percentage of obscured pixels.

20. The one or more non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 12 , wherein receiving the second quality assessment of the building of interest subject in association with the graphical guide further comprises position changes for the image capture device.
