Abstract

This disclosure describes, among other things, techniques for waking a user by changing the user's sleep environment. In one example, a method includes receiving, at a central controller of an air mattress system, at least one user alarm setting, generating, via the central controller, at least one instruction based on the received user alarm setting, and transmitting, from the central controller, the at least one instruction to a first component of the air mattress system to adjust a feature of the first component.

Claims (40)

1. A system comprising:

a first bed system, comprising:

a first pressure sensor; and

a first central controller comprising:

a first processor configured to:

determine presence of a first user in the first bed system using the first pressure sensor; and

responsive to a determination that the first user is not in the first bed system, send an alert to a second bed system; and

the second bed system, comprising:

a second pressure sensor; and

a second central controller comprising:

a second processor configured to:

receive the alert from the first bed system; and

responsive to receiving the alert from the first bed system, issue commands configured to initiate a wake-up process for a second user of the second bed system.

2. The system of claim 1 , the system further comprising:

a pad that is configured to receive a fluid to be pushed through the pad; and wherein the commands are further configured to cause a change of temperature of the pad by pushing the fluid through the pad.

3. The system of claim 2 , wherein the fluid is air.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the commands are further configured to cause a firmness controller to change a firmness of the second bed system.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the commands are further configured to cause a change in temperature of an environment of the second bed system.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the commands are further configured to cause a change in illumination of an environment the second bed system.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the commands are further configured to cause an articulation of an articulating foundation of the second bed system.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the second processor is further configured to:

determine that a user is present on the second bed system; and

issue the commands i) responsive to receiving the alert from the first bed system, and ii) response to determining that the user is present on to receiving the alert from the first bed system.

9. The system of claim 1 , wherein the second processor is further configured to:

determine that a user is not present on the second bed system; and

issue second commands to terminate the wake-up process.

10. The system of claim 1 , wherein the second processor is further configured to:

determine that a user's sleep state is a target sleep state selected from a plurality of possible sleep states; and

issue the commands i) responsive to receiving the alert from the first bed system, and, ii) response to determining that user's sleep state is the target sleep state.

11. The system of claim 10 , wherein the plurality of possible sleep states comprises Rapid Eye Movement (REM) and Non-Rapid-Eye Movement (NREM).

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein determining that the user's sleep state is the target sleep state uses one or more of heart rate, respiration, and movement of the user.

13. The system of claim 1 , wherein an alarm setting is received via a user interface.

14. The system of claim 13 , wherein the user interface comprises a remote control.

15. The system of claim 13 , wherein the user interface comprises a voice controller.

16. The system of claim 1 , wherein an alarm setting is received via a web portal.

17. The system of claim 1 , wherein an alarm setting is a desired time window for waking.

18. The system of claim 1 , wherein the second bed system comprises foam.

19. The system of claim 1 , wherein the second bed system comprises at least one pressure-controllable air chambers.

20. The system of claim 19 , wherein a single pump is in fluid communication with two or more of the air chambers.

21. The system of claim 19 , a first pump is in fluid communication with a first air chamber and a second pump is in fluid communication with a second air chamber.
