Abstract

An apparatus in an illustrative embodiment comprises at least one processing device comprising a processor coupled to a memory. The at least one processing device is configured to detect a first user device, to receive at least identifying information of a second user device, to establish an association between the first user device and the second user device based at least in part on the received identifying information, and to determine proximity of the first user device and the second user device at one or more locations for one or more times based at least in part on the established association. Other illustrative embodiments include methods and computer program products.

Claims (68)

1. An apparatus comprising:

at least one processing device comprising a processor coupled to a memory;

said at least one processing device being configured:

to detect a first user device;

to receive at least identifying information of a second user device;

to establish an association between the first user device and the second user device based at least in part on the received identifying information; and

to determine proximity of the first user device and the second user device at one or more locations for one or more times based at least in part on the established association.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said at least one processing device comprises one or more backend servers coupled to one or more nodes of a node network associated with at least one of the first and second user devices.

3. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said at least one processing device comprises a control system coupled to one or more nodes of a node network associated with at least one of the first and second user devices.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein at least one of the first and second user devices comprises a mobile device.

5. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said at least one processing device is further configured:

to receive at least identifying information of the first user device in conjunction with detection of the first user device; and

to establish the association between the first user device and the second user device based at least in part on the received identifying information of the first and second user devices.

6. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said at least one processing device in establishing the association between the first and second user devices is further configured:

to store a feature of the first user device;

to store a feature of the second user device; and

to associate the feature of the first user device with the feature of the second user device.

7. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said at least one processing device is further configured:

responsive to a determination that the first and second user devices are within a specified proximity of one another at a particular location for a particular time, to enter one or more features of the first user device into a profile of the second user device.

8. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said at least one processing device is further configured:

to send a registration request for a given feature of at least one of the first and second user devices over a communication channel to a user interface; and

to store information received responsive to the registration request in registration data associated with the feature.

9. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said at least one processing device is further configured:

to compute an accuracy score for a given feature of at least one of the first and second user devices based on a plurality of events relating to that feature; and

to store the computed accuracy score in accuracy data associated with the feature.

10. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said at least one processing device is further configured:

to present at least first and second distinct tracking permission requests relating to respective ones of the first and second user devices in a user interface;

to receive user feedback regarding at least one of the tracking permission requests; and

to update a profile of at least one of the first and second user devices based at least in part on the received user feedback.

11. The apparatus of claim 10 wherein the user interface is part of one of the first and second user devices.

12. The apparatus of claim 10 wherein the user interface is associated with a node of a node network in communication with at least one of the first and second user devices.

13. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said at least one processing device is further configured:

to associate one or more features of at least one of the first and second user devices with a communication channel;

to send a request over the communication channel;

to receive a response to the request; and

based at least in part on the response, to associate a registration value with a corresponding feature and to store the registration value in a profile;

wherein an action is taken based on an observation of a feature, a registration value and at least one rule associated with a node network; and

wherein the action further depends at least in part on information associated with at least one profile.

14. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said at least one processing device is further configured:

to obtain a first feature associated with the first user device;

to obtain a second feature associated with the second user device;

to determine whether the first and second features are associated with one another according to one or more criteria relating to one or more threshold values; and

based at least in part on the determination, to present a request in a user interface, where the request relates at least in part to the first feature, and where the user interface is physically separate from the first user device corresponding to the first feature.

15. A method comprising:

detecting a first user device;

receiving at least identifying information of a second user device;

establishing an association between the first user device and the second user device based at least in part on the received identifying information; and

determining proximity of the first user device and the second user device at one or more locations for one or more times based at least in part on the established association;

wherein the method is performed by at least one processing device comprising a processor coupled to a memory.

16. The method of claim 15 further comprising:

receiving at least identifying information of the first user device in conjunction with detection of the first user device; and

establishing the association between the first user device and the second user device based at least in part on the received identifying information of the first and second user devices.

17. The method of claim 15 wherein establishing the association between the first and second user devices comprises:

storing a feature of the first user device;

storing a feature of the second user device; and

associating the feature of the first user device with the feature of the second user device.

18. A computer program product comprising a non-transitory processor-readable storage medium having stored therein program code of one or more software programs, wherein the program code when executed by at least one processing device causes said at least one processing device:

to detect a first user device;

to receive at least identifying information of a second user device;

to establish an association between the first user device and the second user device based at least in part on the received identifying information; and

to determine proximity of the first user device and the second user device at one or more locations for one or more times based at least in part on the established association.

19. The computer program product of claim 18 wherein the program code when executed by said at least one processing device causes said at least one processing device:

to receive at least identifying information of the first user device in conjunction with detection of the first user device; and

to establish the association between the first user device and the second user device based at least in part on the received identifying information of the first and second user devices.

20. The computer program product of claim 18 wherein establishing the association between the first and second user devices comprises:

storing a feature of the first user device;

storing a feature of the second user device; and

associating the feature of the first user device with the feature of the second user device.
