AGONISTS OF GUANYLATE CYCLASE USEFUL FOR THE TREATMENT OF OPIOID INDUCED DYSFUNCTIONS
This invention provides a method to prevent, control, and/or treat opioid induced dysfunctions comprising administering to a patient in need a guanylate cyclase receptor agonist (GCRA) peptide. Compositions comprising guanylate cyclase receptor agonist (GCRA) peptides, methods of making, and methods of treatment are also disclosed.
1 . (canceled)
2 . A method of treating opioid induced constipation in a subject,
the method comprising administering to the subject a composition comprising a guanylate receptor agonist (GCRA) peptide of amino acid sequence selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO: 1 and SEQ ID NO: 9, and administering to the subject a composition comprising methylnaltrexone.
3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the GCRA peptide has the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 1.
4 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the GCRA peptide has the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 9.
5 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the method further comprises administering an opioid to the subject.
6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the opioid is selected from the group consisting of morphine, methadone, codeine, oxycodone, hydrocodone, dihydrocodeine, propoxyphene, fentanyl, tramadol, loperamide, butorphanol, and any combination thereof.
7 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the opioid is morphine or methadone.
8 . A method of treating opioid induced constipation in a subject being treated with an opioid,
the method comprising administering to the subject a composition comprising a guanylate receptor agonist (GCRA) peptide selected from the group consisting of SEQ ID NO: 1 and SEQ ID NO: 9, and administering to the subject a composition comprising methylnaltrexone;
wherein the opioid is selected from the group consisting of morphine, methadone, codeine, oxycodone, hydrocodone, dihydrocodeine, propoxyphene, fentanyl, tramadol, loperamide, butorphanol, and any combination thereof.
9 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the GCRA peptide has the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 1.
10 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the GCRA peptide has the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 9.
11 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the opioid is methadone or morphine.
