Abstract

A system, including: a sensor that monitors containers as the containers move along a production line; a rejection device; a controller communicatively connected to the sensor and the rejection device, wherein the controller is programmed to determine whether a container is associated with a match condition in response to a signal received from the sensor, the match condition reflecting that the container is associated with predetermined properties or characteristics, in response to a match condition, determine a pass result, and otherwise determine a fail result, determine a velocity of the production line, dynamically determine a correction amount for a reject position, track a position of the container on the production line, and in response to the fail result, outputs a signal to actuate the rejection device that removes the container from the production line based on the velocity of the production line, the dynamically determined correction amount, and the position of the container on the production line.

Claims (65)

1. A system for monitoring a plurality of items traveling on a continuously moving conveyor line of a conveyor system, the system comprising:

an inspection subsystem for inspecting each item of the plurality of items traveling on a main path of the continuously moving conveyor line, the inspection subsystem comprising

at least one sensor for detecting each item of the plurality of items;

at least one controller configured to monitor the plurality of items traveling on the continuously moving conveyor line, wherein monitoring comprises, for each item of the plurality of items,

receiving information scanned by a first sensor of the at least one sensor, and

evaluating the information in view of preconfigured criterion and, wherein evaluating results in one of a pass state or a failure state, wherein, in the failure state, the at least one controller is configured to issue at least one command;

a display; and

a key entry interface for entering a credential key, the key entry interface comprising

a scanner for scanning data from the credential key;

wherein the at least one controller is configured to

authenticate the data from a given credential key of a plurality of credential keys as corresponding to at least one of a particular employee or a particular responsibility level of the employee, and

responsive to authenticating the given credential key,

accept one or more inputs for setting a code associated with the preconfigured criterion, wherein

the preconfigured criterion is related to a first type of item of a plurality of types of items, and

the one or more inputs correspond to a) a previously entered code of a plurality of item codes, or b) a new code for adding to the plurality of item codes, wherein the new code corresponds to a new type of item to be added to the plurality of types of items, and

present item information corresponding to the code at the display.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein:

each item of the plurality of items comprises machine-readable indicia;

the preconfigured criterion comprises reference data; and

evaluating the information comprises matching the reference data with information encoded in the machine-readable indicia.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein issuing the at least one command comprises causing the continuously moving conveyor line to stop.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the credential key is stored on an employee badge.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the credential key corresponds to the particular responsibility level of the employee of a plurality of responsibility levels comprising an operator level and a supervisor level.

6. The system of claim 5 , wherein:

the one or more inputs correspond to the new code; and

authenticating the given credential key comprises authenticating the particular responsibility level of the employee as the supervisor level or a higher responsibility level of the plurality of responsibility levels.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one controller is further configured to, responsive to the evaluating resulting in the failure state a threshold number of times, activating an alarm state.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one controller is configured to enter information into a log regarding each rejected item of the plurality of items after the evaluating results in the failure state for the respective item.

9. The system of claim 1 , wherein:

the one or more inputs correspond to the new code; and

the at least one controller is configured to enter a teach mode, comprising

receiving, from one or more sensors of the at least one sensor, new predetermined characteristics or properties, and

associating the new predetermined characteristics or properties with a new item type.

10. The system of claim 1 , wherein the new code is entered manually at the display.

11. The system of claim 1 , wherein the key entry interface comprises the display.

12. The system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one controller is configured to monitor functionality of a plurality of components of the inspection subsystem, wherein

monitoring the functionality comprises, based upon detection of a failure of one or more components of the inspection subsystem, setting a component failure state.

13. The system of claim 12 , wherein, based upon detection of the failure of the one or more components of the inspection subsystem, the at least one controller is further configured to trigger an alarm to alert one or more line operators.

14. The system of claim 1 , further comprising:

At least one encoder for sensing movement of the continuously moving conveyor line;

Wherein the at least one controller is configured to calculate, based on signals from the at least one encoder, a real-time velocity of the continuously moving conveyor line.

15. The system of claim 14 , wherein a first encoder of the at least one encoder is configured to, responsive to the movement of the continuously moving conveyor line, generate a plurality of pulses comprising a predetermined number of pulses per length of the continuously moving conveyor line.

16. The system of claim 14 , wherein the at least one controller is configured to apply the real-time velocity to dynamically adjust timing of activation of a diverter to move a rejected item of the plurality of items off of the continuously moving conveyor line.

17. A system for monitoring a plurality of products traveling on a continuously moving conveyor line of a conveyor system, the system comprising:

at least one sensor for detecting each product of the plurality of products traveling on the continuously moving conveyor line;

a key entry interface for entering data related to a given electronic key of a plurality of electronic keys, the key entry interface comprising

a scanner for scanning the data from the given electronic key;

a display; and

at least one controller configured to

monitor the plurality of products traveling on the continuously moving conveyor line,

wherein monitoring comprises, for each product of the plurality of products,

receiving information detected by at least a first sensor of the at least one sensor, and

evaluating the information in view of preconfigured criterion,

 wherein evaluating results in one of a pass state or a failure state, and

 wherein, in the failure state, the at least one controller is configured to issue at least one command,

authenticate the data from the given electronic key, wherein authenticating comprises identifying the given credential key as corresponding to at least one of a particular employee or a particular responsibility level of the employee, and
