Abstract

A non-invasive ventilation system may include a nasal interface. The nasal interface may include a left outer tube with a distal end adapted to impinge a left nostril, at least one left opening in the left distal end in pneumatic communication with the left nostril, and a left proximal end of the left outer tube in fluid communication with ambient air. The left proximal end of the left outer tube may curve laterally away from a midline of a face. A right outer tube may be similarly provided. One or more left jet nozzles may direct ventilation gas into the left outer tube, and one or more right jet nozzles may direct ventilation gas into the right outer tube. The jet nozzles may be in fluid communication with the pressurized gas supply.

Claims (34)

1. A patient interface for a non-invasive ventilation system, the patient interface comprising:

tubing attachable to the gas delivery tube attachment, the tubing including:

a ventilator gas delivery channel for delivering ventilation gas from a ventilator into the gas flow path of the manifold via a gas delivery nozzle to define a gas flow direction of the gas flow path, the gas flow path being curved such that the gas delivery nozzle is angulated into a wall of the manifold, the pressure sensing port opening into the gas flow path at a position inside the manifold downstream of the gas delivery nozzle in the gas flow direction; and

a pressure sensing channel that communicates with the pressure sensing lumen to place the ventilator in communication with the pressure sensing port, the pressure sensing channel and the ventilator gas delivery channel being within the same tube of the tubing for communication with the manifold via the same gas delivery tube attachment,

6. The patient interface of claim 1 , further comprising a filter for collecting moisture as air is exhaled through the manifold, the moisture thereafter being entrained by the ventilation gas exiting the gas delivery nozzle.

7. The patient interface of claim 1 , wherein the gas delivery nozzle is centered with respect to an internal geometry of the manifold.

8. The patient interface of claim 1 , wherein the manifold comprises a thermoplastic or elastomeric material of 30-90 Shore A hardness.

9. The patient interface of claim 1 , wherein the ventilator gas delivery channel has a diameter of 2 to 7 millimeters.

10. A non-invasive ventilation system comprising the patient interface of claim 1 and the ventilator.

11. The non-invasive ventilation system of claim 10 , wherein the ventilator delivers the ventilation gas according to a pressure measurement taken at the pressure sensing port via the pressure sensing lumen.

12. The non-invasive ventilation system of claim 11 , wherein the ventilator delivers the ventilation gas according to a spontaneous breathing signal detected based on the pressure measurement.

13. A patient interface for a non-invasive ventilation system, the patient interface comprising:
