Abstract

Methods and systems are provided for independent audio volume control. User input may be received in an audio setup configured for combined-game-and-chat audio, with the user input including one or both of a selection of a desired volume of a chat audio component of the combined-game-and-chat audio signal, and a selection of a desired volume of a game audio component of the combined-game-and-chat audio signal. Based on the user input, a corresponding mix setting may be determined, with the mix setting including one or more control parameters for adaptively controlling mixing of the chat audio component and the game audio component to generate the combined-game-and-chat audio signal. The mix setting may be determined based on a data set characterizing an audio device where at least portion of the mixing is performed. The data set may be pre-programmed and/or determined based on testing of the audio device.

Claims (29)

1. A system comprising:

one or more circuits for use in controlling a combined-game-and-chat audio signal, wherein the one or more circuits are configured to:

receive user input comprising at least a selection of a desired volume of a game audio component of the combined-game-and-chat audio signal;

determine, based on the user input and characterization of an audio source device where at least portion of the mixing of the chat audio component and the game audio component is performed, a corresponding mix setting,

wherein the mix setting comprises one or more control parameters for adaptively controlling mixing of a chat audio component and the game audio component to generate the combined-game-and-chat audio signal, and

wherein the audio source device is different from an audio output device used in outputting the combined-game-and-chat audio signal.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more circuits are configured to determine the characterization based on a data set characterizing the audio source device where at least portion of the mixing of the chat audio component and the game audio component is performed.

3. The system of claim 2 , wherein the data set is pre-programmed.

4. The system of claim 2 , wherein the one or more circuits are configured to is configured to dynamically determine at least a portion of the data set based on testing of the audio device.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more circuits are configured to concurrently determine, based on the user input, a corresponding volume setting used in outputting the combined-game-and-chat audio signal.

6. The system of claim 5 , wherein the one or more circuits are configured to adaptively provide one or both of the mix setting and the volume setting.

7. The system of claim 5 , wherein one or more circuits are configured to adaptively apply a delay when providing one or both of the mix setting and the volume setting, based on one or more pre-defined delay time values.

8. The system of claim 7 , wherein one or more circuits are configured to adaptively provide one or both of the mix setting and the volume setting by using a plurality of ramp up or down steps, to effectuate gradual or stepped changes.

9. The system of claim 5 , wherein the one or more circuits are configured to provide the volume setting such that volume adjustments based on the volume setting are time synchronized to mixing changes based on the mix setting.

10. The system of claim 5 , wherein the one or more circuits are configured to provide the volume setting to the audio output device.

11. A method comprising:

receiving, a user input comprising at least a selection of a desired volume of a game audio component of the combined-game-and-chat audio signal; and

determining, based on the user input and characterization of an audio source device where at least portion of the mixing of the chat audio component and the game audio component is performed, a corresponding mix setting,

wherein the mix setting comprises one or more control parameters for adaptively controlling mixing of a chat audio component and the game audio component to generate the combined-game-and-chat audio signal, and

wherein the audio source device is different from an audio output device used in outputting the combined-game-and-chat audio signal.

12. The method of claim 11 , further comprising determining the characterization based on a data set characterizing the audio source device where at least portion of the mixing of the chat audio component and the game audio component is performed.

13. The method of claim 12 , wherein the data set is pre-programmed.

14. The method of claim 12 , further comprising dynamically determining at least a portion of the data set based on testing of the audio device.

15. The method of claim 11 , further comprising concurrently determining, based on the user input, a corresponding volume setting used in outputting the combined-game-and-chat audio signal.

16. The method of claim 15 , further comprising adaptively providing one or both of the mix setting and the volume setting.

17. The method of claim 15 , further comprising adaptively applying a delay when providing one or both of the mix setting and the volume setting, based on one or more pre-defined delay time values.

18. The method of claim 17 , further comprising adaptively providing one or both of the mix setting and the volume setting by using a plurality of ramp up or down steps, to effectuate gradual or stepped changes.

19. The method of claim 15 , further comprising providing the volume setting such that volume adjustments based on the volume setting are time synchronized to mixing changes based on the mix setting.

20. The method of claim 15 , further comprising providing the volume setting to the audio output device.
