END EFFECTOR FOR USE WITH A SURGICAL FASTENING INSTRUMENT
A surgical staple including a crown and a deformable member extending from the crown, the deformable member having a notch configured to cause the deformable member to bend at the notch when the staple is deformed from a first shape into a second shape. The crown of the surgical staple, in various embodiments, further includes a forming surface, or anvil, which is configured to deform the deformable member and/or guide a distal end of the deformable member when the distal end contacts the crown.

18 . A staple cartridge, comprising:
a cartridge body, comprising:
a proximal end;
a distal end;
a knife slot extending through said cartridge body from said proximal end to said distal end; and
staple cavities defined in said cartridge body, wherein said staple cavities are arranged in an inner longitudinal row of staple cavities, a middle longitudinal row of staple cavities, and an outer longitudinal row of staple cavities on one side of said knife slot;
staples removably stored within said staple cavities;
a proximal staple driver configured to eject a first quantity of staples from said staple cavities during a firing motion;
an intermediate staple driver positioned distally with respect to said proximal staple driver, wherein said intermediate staple driver is configured to eject a second quantity of staples from said staple cavities which is different than said first quantity during the firing motion, and wherein said second quantity of staples includes a staple from said inner longitudinal row of staple cavities and a staple from said outer longitudinal row of staple cavities; and
a distal staple driver positioned distally with respect to said intermediate staple driver and configured to eject a third quantity of staples during the firing motion, wherein said third quantity of staples is the same as said first quantity of staples.
19 . The staple cartridge of claim 18 , wherein said second quantity of staples is less than said first quantity of staples.
20 . The staple cartridge of claim 18 , wherein said second quantity of staples is greater than said first quantity of staples.
21 . A staple cartridge, comprising:
a cartridge body, comprising:
a proximal end;
a distal end;
a longitudinal knife slot; and
staple cavities defined in said cartridge body, wherein said staple cavities are arranged in a first longitudinal row of staple cavities, a second longitudinal row of staple cavities, and a third longitudinal row of staple cavities on one side of said longitudinal knife slot;
staples removably stored within said staple cavities;
a proximal staple driver configured to eject a first quantity of staples from said staple cavities during a firing motion;
an intermediate staple driver positioned distally with respect to said proximal staple driver, wherein said intermediate staple driver is configured to eject a second quantity of staples from said staple cavities which is different than said first quantity during the firing motion, and wherein said second quantity of staples includes a staple from said first longitudinal row of staple cavities and a staple from said third longitudinal row of staple cavities; and
a distal staple driver positioned distally with respect to said intermediate staple driver and configured to eject a third quantity of staples during the firing motion, wherein said third quantity of staples is the same as said first quantity of staples.
22 . The staple cartridge of claim 21 , wherein said second quantity of staples is less than said first quantity of staples.
23 . The staple cartridge of claim 21 , wherein said second quantity of staples is greater than said first quantity of staples.
24 . The staple cartridge of claim 21 , wherein said first longitudinal row of staple cavities is adjacent to said longitudinal knife slot.
25 . The staple cartridge of claim 21 , wherein said second longitudinal row of staple cavities is intermediate said first longitudinal row of staple cavities and said third longitudinal row of staple cavities.
26 . A staple cartridge, comprising:
a cartridge body, comprising:
a proximal end;
a distal end;
a longitudinal knife slot; and
staple cavities defined in said cartridge body, wherein said staple cavities are arranged in a first longitudinal row of staple cavities, a second longitudinal row of staple cavities, and a third longitudinal row of staple cavities on one side of said longitudinal knife slot;
staples removably stored within said staple cavities;
a first staple driver configured to eject a first number of staples from said staple cavities during a firing motion;
a second staple driver positioned distally with respect to said first staple driver, wherein said second staple driver is configured to eject a second number of staples from said staple cavities which is different than said first number of staples during the firing motion, and wherein said second number of staples includes a staple from said first longitudinal row of staple cavities and a staple from said third longitudinal row of staple cavities; and
a third staple driver positioned distally with respect to said second staple driver and configured to eject a third number of staples during the firing motion, wherein said third number of staples is the same as said first number of staples.
27 . The staple cartridge of claim 26 , wherein said second number of staples is less than said first number of staples.
28 . The staple cartridge of claim 26 , wherein said second number of staples is greater than said first number of staples.
29 . The staple cartridge of claim 26 , wherein said first longitudinal row of staple cavities is adjacent to said longitudinal knife slot.
30 . The staple cartridge of claim 26 , wherein said second longitudinal row of staple cavities is intermediate said first longitudinal row of staple cavities and said third longitudinal row of staple cavities.
