Abstract

An insulating support bracket can include at least one standoff, each standoff being formed of rigid insulating material and at least one saddle, each saddle being formed of a rigid material, each saddle being fastened to at least one standoff, the insulating support bracket being arranged to surround a piping element.

Claims (34)

1. An insulating support bracket comprising:

a plurality of standoffs, each standoff being formed of rigid insulating material; and

a plurality of saddles, each saddle being formed of a rigid material and defining an arcuate central portion, each arcuate central portion defining an inner surface, each saddle being fastened to and disposed between a pair of adjacent standoffs;

wherein each standoff protrudes radially inward beyond the inner surface of the arcuate central portion of each adjacent saddle.

2. The insulating support bracket of claim 1 , wherein each standoff is formed of Micarta® NP572.

3. The insulating support bracket of claim 1 , wherein each standoff is formed of resin.

4. The insulating support bracket of claim 3 , wherein each saddle is formed of stainless steel.

5. The insulating support bracket of claim 1 , wherein each saddle defines a plurality of vents.

6. The insulating support bracket of claim 1 , wherein each saddle is fastened to two standoffs and wherein each standoff is fastened to two saddles.

7. The insulating support bracket of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of standoffs and the plurality of saddles are fastened in abutting relationship to form a ring, the insulating support bracket defining an inner diameter and an outer diameter.

8. The insulating support bracket of claim 7 , wherein the plurality of standoffs and the plurality of saddles are fastened together by bolts.

9. The insulating support bracket of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of standoffs comprises six standoffs and wherein the plurality of saddles comprises six saddles.

10. The insulating support bracket of claim 1 , wherein each of the saddles defines a pair of flange portions, the arcuate central portion extending between the pair of flange portions, each of the flange portions extending radially inward from the arcuate central portion, each of the saddles coupled to one of the flange portions of each adjacent saddle.

11. The insulating support bracket of claim 10 , wherein each of the flange portions defines a flange portion outer surface, each of the standoffs defines a pair of lateral faces, each of lateral faces confronting the flange portion outer surface of one of the adjacent saddles.

12. The insulating support bracket of claim 11 , wherein each of the standoffs further defines a contact face extending between the pair of lateral faces, each of the contact faces extending radially inward beyond the adjacent flange portions.

13. A jacketed pipe system comprising:

an inner pipe, the inner pipe being of an outer diameter and being hollow; and

an insulating support bracket comprising:

a plurality of standoffs, each standoff being formed of rigid insulating material; and

a plurality of saddles, each saddle being formed of a rigid material and defining an arcuate central portion, each arcuate central portion defining an inner surface, each saddle being fastened to and disposed between a pair of adjacent standoffs, the insulating support bracket being formed into a ring and surrounding the inner pipe;

wherein each standoff protrudes radially inward beyond the inner surface of the arcuate central portion of each adjacent saddle and contacts an outer surface of the inner pipe.

14. The jacketed pipe system of claim 13 , wherein the insulating support bracket defines an inner diameter and an outer diameter, wherein the inner diameter of the insulating support bracket is about equal to the outer diameter of the inner pipe, and wherein the outer diameter of the insulating support bracket is configured to engage an inner diameter of an outer pipe.

15. The jacketed pipe system of claim 14 , wherein each saddles is fastened to two standoffs and wherein each standoff is fastened to two saddles.

16. The jacketed pipe system of claim 15 , wherein the plurality of standoffs and the plurality of saddles are fastened together by bolts.

17. The jacketed pipe system of claim 15 , wherein each standoff is formed of Micarta® NP572.

18. The jacketed pipe system of claim 15 , wherein each standoff is formed of resin.

19. The jacketed pipe system of claim 15 , wherein each saddle is formed of stainless steel.

20. The jacketed pipe system of claim 15 , wherein the plurality of standoffs comprises six standoffs and wherein the plurality of saddles comprises six saddles.

21. A method of forming a jacketed pipe assembly, the method comprising:

obtaining an inner pipe, the inner pipe being of an outer diameter and being hollow;

obtaining a plurality of standoffs and a plurality of saddles, each of the plurality of saddles defining a central portion;

arranging the plurality of standoffs to abut the outer diameter of the inner pipe and arranging each of the saddles between a pair of adjacent standoffs such that the plurality of standoffs and the plurality of saddles together define a ring, each of the central portions spaced from the outer diameter of the inner pipe such that an open air gap is defined therebetween, the plurality of standoffs and the plurality of saddles surrounding the inner pipe; and

fastening each of the standoffs to an adjacent pair of the saddles to form an insulating support bracket having an inner diameter;

wherein the inner diameter of the insulating support bracket is about equal to the outer diameter of the inner pipe.
