Abstract

A cracker stream is provided that contains a recycle content pyrolysis oil composition, a predominantly C 5 to C 22 hydrocarbon composition, and steam at a steam-to-hydrocarbon ratio of at least 0.60:1. The method for making olefins includes: (a) combining a predominantly C 5 to C 22 hydrocarbon stream with a recycle content pyrolysis oil composition (r-pyoil) to provide a combined cracker stream; and (b) cracking the combined cracker stream in a cracker furnace to provide an olefin-containing effluent stream, wherein the combined cracker stream contains steam at a steam-to-hydrocarbon ratio greater than 0.60:1. There is also provided a cracker stream including r-pyoil), a predominantly C 2 to C 4 hydrocarbon composition, and steam at a steam-to-hydrocarbon ratio of at least 0.20:1. Olefins can be made from this cracker stream as well.

Claims (27)

1 . A cracker stream comprising a recycle content pyrolysis oil composition (r-pyoil), a predominantly C 5 to C 22 hydrocarbon composition, and steam, wherein the steam-to-hydrocarbon ratio of said cracker stream is at least 0.60:1.

2 . The cracker stream of claim 1 , wherein said steam-to-hydrocarbon ratio is not more than 0.90:1.

3 . The cracker stream of claim 1 , wherein at least 70 weight percent of said r-pyoil is obtained from the pyrolysis of waste plastics, waste textiles, waste carpet fibers, waste modified cellulose, waste biomass, post-industrial waste streams, intermediate industrial waste streams, or combinations thereof.

4 . The cracker stream of claim 1 , wherein said C 5 to C 22 composition is present in an amount of at least 40 weight percent based on the total weight of said cracker composition.

5 . The cracker stream of claim 1 , wherein said r-pyoil has a boiling point curve defined by 90% boiling point of not more than 250° C.

6 . The cracker stream of claim 1 , wherein said r-pyoil is present in said cracker composition in an amount of at least 5 wt. % and not more than 40 wt. %, based on the total weight of said cracker composition.

7 . The cracker stream of claim 1 , wherein said r-pyoil has a C12+ content of not more than 40 wt. %, based on the total weight of said r-pyoil.

8 . The cracker stream of claim 1 , wherein said cracker composition has a vapor fraction of at least 0.7.

9 . A method for making one or more olefins, said method comprising:

(a) combining a predominantly C 5 to C 22 hydrocarbon stream with a recycle content pyrolysis oil composition (r-pyoil) to provide a combined cracker stream; and

(b) cracking said combined cracker stream in a cracker furnace to provide an olefin-containing effluent stream,

wherein said combined cracker stream further comprises steam and has a steam-to-hydrocarbon ratio greater than 0.60:1.

10 . The method of claim 9 , wherein said steam is added to said r-pyoil composition and/or said combined cracker stream in a convection section of said cracker furnace.

11 . The method of claim 9 , wherein said steam is added to said r-pyoil composition and/or said combined cracker stream in a cross-over section of said cracker furnace.

12 . A cracker stream comprising a recycle content pyrolysis oil composition (r-pyoil), a predominantly C2 to C4 hydrocarbon composition, and steam, wherein the steam-to-hydrocarbon ratio of said cracker stream is at least 0.20:1.

13 . The cracker stream of claim 12 , wherein at least 30 wt. % of said r-pyoil is obtained from the pyrolysis of waste plastic.

14 . The cracker stream of claim 12 , wherein said C2 to C4 composition is present in an amount of at least 50 wt. %, based on the weight of the cracker stream.

15 . The cracker stream of claim 12 , wherein said cracker stream comprises predominantly propane or ethane.

16 . The cracker stream of claim 12 , wherein said r-pyoil has a boiling point curve defined by a 90% boiling point of not more than 250° C.

17 . The cracker stream of claim 12 , said r-pyoil has not been hydrotreated.

18 . A method for making one or more olefins, said method comprising:

(a) combining a predominantly C 2 to C 4 hydrocarbon stream with a recycle content pyrolysis oil composition (r-pyoil) to provide a combined cracker stream; and

(b) cracking said combined cracker stream in a cracker furnace to provide an olefin-containing effluent stream,

wherein said combined cracker stream further comprises steam and has a steam-to-hydrocarbon ratio of at least 0.20:1.

19 . The method of claim 18 , wherein said steam-to-hydrocarbon ratio is not more than 0.60:1.

20 . The method of claim 18 , wherein said steam is added to said r-pyoil composition and/or said combined cracker stream in a cross-over section of said cracker furnace.

21 . The method of claim 18 , wherein said combined cracker stream comprises at least 60 wt. % non-recycled propane, ethane, or combinations thereof.
