METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR GENERATING CONVERSATION SPECIFIC USER DATA BACKUPS OF LIMITED-ACCESS USER DATA
A system for providing backup services for limited-access user data includes persistent storage for storing a conversation specific user data backup and a manager. The manager identifies a backup generation event for limited-access user data based on a protection policy; in response to identifying the backup generation event; obtains fragmented user data from an application that gates access to the limited-access user data; obtains organizational metadata associated with the fragmented user data from the application; makes a determination that the fragmented user data is associated with a conversation; in response to making the determination, obtains conversation metadata associated with the fragmented user data from the application; and generates the conversation specific user data backup using the organizational metadata, conversation metadata, and the fragmented user data.
1 . A system for providing backup services for limited-access user data, comprising:
persistent storage for storing a conversation specific user data backup; and
a manager programmed to:
identify a backup generation event for the limited-access user data based on a protection policy;
in response to identifying the backup generation event:
obtain fragmented user data from an application that gates access to the limited-access user data;
obtain organizational metadata associated with the fragmented user data from the application;
make a determination that the fragmented user data is associated with a conversation;
in response to making the determination:
obtain conversation metadata associated with the fragmented user data from the application; and
generate the conversation specific user data backup using the:
organizational metadata,
conversation metadata, and
the fragmented user data.
2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the conversation metadata specifies a relationship between a first electronic mail communication and a second electronic mail communication.
3 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the relationship is an occurrence in time with respect to the first electronic mail communication and the second electronic mail communication.
4 . The system of claim 3 , wherein the fragmented user data the first electronic mail communication or the second electronic mail communication.
5 . The system of claim 4 , wherein generating the conversation specific user data backup comprises:
adding the fragmented user data to the conversation specific user data backup; and
adding information indicative that the relationship to the conversation specific user data backup.
6 . The system of claim 5 , wherein generating the conversation specific user data backup further comprises:
adding second information reflecting a characteristic of the fragmented user data based on the organizational metadata.
7 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the fragmented user data can only be obtained by the manager using the application.
8 . A method for providing backup services for limited-access user data, comprising:
identifying a backup generation event for the limited-access user data based on a protection policy;
in response to identifying the backup generation event:
obtaining fragmented user data from an application that gates access to the limited-access user data;
obtaining organizational metadata associated with the fragmented user data from the application;
making a determination that the fragmented user data is associated with a conversation;
in response to making the determination:
obtaining conversation metadata associated with the fragmented user data from the application; and
generating a conversation specific user data backup using the:
organizational metadata,
conversation metadata, and
the fragmented user data.
9 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the conversation metadata specifies a relationship between a first electronic mail communication and a second electronic mail communication.
10 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the relationship is an occurrence in time with respect to the first electronic mail communication and the second electronic mail communication.
11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the fragmented user data the first electronic mail communication or the second electronic mail communication.
12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein generating the conversation specific user data backup comprises:
adding the fragmented user data to the conversation specific user data backup; and
adding information indicative that the relationship to the conversation specific user data backup.
13 . The method of claim 12 , wherein generating the conversation specific user data backup further comprises:
adding second information reflecting a characteristic of the fragmented user data based on the organizational metadata.
14 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the fragmented user data can only be obtained by a manager using the application.
15 . A non-transitory computer readable medium comprising computer readable program code, which when executed by a computer processor enables the computer processor to perform a method for providing backup services for limited-access user data, the method comprising:
obtaining fragmented user data from an application that gates access to the limited-access user data;
obtaining organizational metadata associated with the fragmented user data from the application;
making a determination that the fragmented user data is associated with a conversation;
in response to making the determination:
obtaining conversation metadata associated with the fragmented user data from the application; and
generating a conversation specific user data backup using the:
organizational metadata,
conversation metadata, and
the fragmented user data.
16 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the conversation metadata specifies a relationship between a first electronic mail communication and a second electronic mail communication.
17 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 16 , wherein the relationship is an occurrence in time with respect to the first electronic mail communication and the second electronic mail communication.
18 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 17 , wherein the fragmented user data the first electronic mail communication or the second electronic mail communication.
19 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 18 , wherein generating the conversation specific user data backup comprises:
adding the fragmented user data to the conversation specific user data backup; and
adding information indicative that the relationship to the conversation specific user data backup.
20 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 19 , wherein generating the conversation specific user data backup further comprises:
adding second information reflecting a characteristic of the fragmented user data based on the organizational metadata.
