Abstract

Systems and methods for managing mobile payments is provided. An account issuer provides an application that is loaded onto a mobile device, which enables a consumer to pay for transactions. The mobile payment application generates a unique code. The code is read by the point of sale terminal, which is then provided to the payment management system. The payment management system contracts the account issuer and authenticates the code, thereby receiving a primary account number. Account number and transaction information is used to authorize the transaction via payment systems. The payment system accepts or declines the transaction in a response. Tokens may be generated for the account number, and value added services may be generated based upon user behaviors.

Claims (68)

1. A method for payment management of mobile payments, the method comprising:

receiving, by a payment management system comprising one or more processors associated with one or more computer readable media, a first transaction total and a unique code from a first point of sale terminal, the unique code encoding a tokenized primary account number, wherein the unique code has been generated by or for a payment application of a mobile device of a user and presented to the first point of sale terminal;

transmitting, by the payment management system, the unique code to an issuer system to be authenticated by the issuer system;

receiving, by the payment management system, a primary account number from the issuer system upon or after successful authentication of the unique code;

transmitting, by the payment management system, a first authorization request for a first transaction to a payment system, the first authorization request comprising the primary account number and the first transaction total; and

completing, by the payment management system, the first transaction based on a first authorization response received in relation to the first transaction.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

transmitting, by the payment management system, the first authorization response to the first point of sale terminal.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

generating, by the payment management system, a token for the first transaction, the token including the primary account number; and

transmitting, by the payment management system, the token to the first point of sale terminal.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the token is one of: a single use token and a recurring token.

5. The method of claim 3 , wherein the token is generated in response to receiving, by the payment management system, a token request from the first point of sale terminal.

6. The method of claim 3 , further comprising:

receiving, by the payment management system, a second transaction total and the token from the first point of sale terminal;

decrypting, by the payment management system, the token to retrieve the primary account number;

transmitting, by the payment management system, a second authorization request for a second transaction to the payment system, the second authorization request comprising the primary account number and the second transaction total; and

completing, by the payment management system, the second transaction based on a second authorization response received from the payment system.

7. The method of claim 3 , further comprising:

receiving, by the payment management system, a second transaction total and the token from a second point of sale terminal;

decrypting, by the payment management system, the token to retrieve the primary account number;

transmitting, by the payment management system, a second authorization request for a second transaction to the payment system, the second authorization request comprising the primary account number and the second transaction total; and

completing, by the payment management system, the second transaction based on a second authorization response received from the payment system.

8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

determining, by the payment management system, a consumer type and consumer patterns of the user of the mobile device;

receiving, by the payment management system, location and device information from the mobile device;

predicting, by the payment management system, transaction behavior of the user based on the consumer type, the consumer patterns, and the location and device information; and

generating, by the payment management system, a value-added service for the user based on the predicted transaction behavior.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the consumer type and consumer patterns are determined using pattern recognition algorithms.

10. The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

transmitting, by the payment management system, the value-added service to the payment application installed on the mobile device of the user, the value-added service being integrated into the payment application.

11. A system for payment management of mobile payments, the system comprising:

one or more processors;

one or more computer readable media storing instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:

receiving, by a payment management system, a first transaction total and a unique code from a first point of sale terminal, the unique code encoding a tokenized primary account number, wherein the unique code has been generated by or for a payment application of a mobile device of a user and presented to the first point of sale terminal;

transmitting, by the payment management system, the unique code to an issuer system to be authenticated by the issuer system;

receiving, by the payment management system, a primary account number from the issuer system upon or after successful authentication of the unique code;

transmitting, by the payment management system, a first authorization request for a first transaction to a payment system, the first authorization request comprising the primary account number and the first transaction total; and

completing, by the payment management system, the first transaction based on a first authorization response received in relation to the first transaction.

12. The system of claim 11 , the operations further comprising:

transmitting, by the payment management system, the first authorization response to the first point of sale terminal.

13. The system of claim 11 , the operations further comprising:

generating, by the payment management system, a token for the first transaction, the token including the primary account number; and

transmitting, by the payment management system, the token to the first point of sale terminal.

14. The system of claim 13 , wherein the token is one of: a single use token and a recurring token.

15. The system of claim 13 , wherein the token is generated in response to receiving, by the payment management system, a token request from the first point of sale terminal.

16. The system of claim 13 , the operations further comprising:

receiving, by the payment management system, a second transaction total and the token from the first point of sale terminal;

decrypting, by the payment management system, the token to retrieve the primary account number;

transmitting, by the payment management system, a second authorization request for a second transaction to the payment system, the second authorization request comprising the primary account number and the second transaction total; and

completing, by the payment management system, the second transaction based on a second authorization response received from the payment system.

17. The system of claim 13 , the operations further comprising:

receiving, by the payment management system, a second transaction total and the token from a second point of sale terminal;

decrypting, by the payment management system, the token to retrieve the primary account number;

transmitting, by the payment management system, a second authorization request for a second transaction to the payment system, the second authorization request comprising the primary account number and the second transaction total; and

completing, by the payment management system, the second transaction based on a second authorization response received from the payment system.

18. The system of claim 11 , the operations further comprising:

determining, by the payment management system, a consumer type and consumer patterns of the user of the mobile device;

receiving, by the payment management system, location and device information from the mobile device;

predicting, by the payment management system, transaction behavior of the user based on the consumer type, the consumer patterns, and the location and device information; and

generating, by the payment management system, a value-added service for the user based on the predicted transaction behavior.

19. The system of claim 18 , wherein the consumer type and consumer patterns are determined using pattern recognition algorithms.

20. One or more non-transitory computer readable media storing instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations for payment management of mobile payments, the operations comprising:

receiving, by the one or more processors of a payment management system, a first transaction total and a unique code from a first point of sale terminal, the unique code encoding a tokenized primary account number, wherein the unique code has been generated by or for a payment application of a mobile device of a user and presented to the first point of sale terminal;
