Abstract

A beverage product containing a first azo-component and a second azo-component in a weight about 1:999 to about 999:1; an electrolyte; and a solvent, wherein the first azo-component and the second-component remain in solution for at least thirty days.

Claims (29)

1. A beverage product comprising:

(a) a first food grade azo-dye and a second food grade azo-dye, wherein the first food grade azo-dye and the second food grade azo-dye are present in a combined amount of about 0.01 wt % to about 6 wt % of the beverage product;

(b) an electrolyte salt in an amount of about 2 wt % to about 20 wt % of the beverage product, and

(c) a solvent,

wherein the second food grade azo-dye is different from the first food grade azo-dye,

wherein the first food grade azo-dye and the second food grade azo-dye are each selected from Red 40, Yellow 5, and Yellow 6,

wherein the weight ratio of the first food grade azo-dye to the second food grade azo-dye is about 1:9 to about 9:1, and

wherein the beverage product is in the form of a solution and the first food grade azo-dye and the second food grade azo-dye remain in solution for at least seven days under refrigeration.

2. The beverage product of claim 1 , wherein the first food grade azo-dye is Red 40 and the second food grade azo-dye is Yellow 5.

3. The beverage product of claim 1 , wherein the first food grade azo-dye and the second food grade azo-dye remain in solution for at least 1 month under refrigeration.

4. The beverage product of claim 1 , wherein the first food grade azo-dye and the second food grade azo-dye remain in solution for at least 3 months under refrigeration.

5. The beverage product of claim 1 , wherein the first food grade azo-dye and the second food grade azo-dye remain in solution for at least 6 months under refrigeration.

6. The beverage product of claim 1 , further comprising a non azo-dye colorant.

7. The beverage product of claim 1 , wherein the beverage product contains no more than 0.12 wt % benzaldehyde.

8. A beverage product comprising:

(a) a food grade azo-dye in an amount of about 0.01 wt % to about 6 wt % of the beverage product;

(b) a non azo-component colorant;

(c) an electrolyte salt in an amount of about 2 wt % to about 20 wt % of the beverage product; and

(d) a solvent,

wherein the food grade azo-dye is selected from Red 40, Yellow 5, and Yellow 6,

wherein the non azo-component colorant is an anthocyanin-based natural color, Blue 1, turmeric, curcumin, cochineal, betanin, indigoid, or a combination thereof, and

wherein the beverage product is in the form of a solution, and the non azo-component is included in an amount effective to prevent precipitation of the food grade azo-dye for at least seven days under refrigeration.

9. The beverage product of claim 8 , wherein the non azo-component colorant is Blue 1.

10. The beverage product of claim 8 , wherein the non azo-component colorant is included in an amount effective to prevent precipitation of the food grade azo-dye for at least 1 month under refrigeration.

11. The beverage product of claim 8 , wherein the non azo-component colorant is included in an amount effective to prevent precipitation of the food grade azo-dye for at least 3 months under refrigeration.

12. The beverage product of claim 8 , wherein the food grade azo-dye remains in solution for a period of time longer than a period of time that the food grade azo-dye would remain in the solution without the non azo-component colorant.

13. The beverage product of claim 8 , wherein the beverage product contains no more than 0.12 wt % benzaldehyde.

14. The beverage product of claim 1 , wherein the beverage product comprises about 2 wt % to about 15 wt % electrolyte salt by weight of the beverage product.

15. The beverage product of claim 8 , wherein the beverage product comprises about 2 wt % to about 15 wt % electrolyte salt by weight of the beverage product.
