Abstract

Exemplary embodiments relate to techniques for suggesting bots or mini-apps in a messaging service that provide capabilities related to an ongoing conversation. A suggestion may be added proactively or reactively. In a reactive scenario, the system may respond to an express request to suggest a response or capability, such as by an explicit command. In the proactive scenario, the messaging service may analyze the messages of the conversation, and may suggest a response or capability based on an intent identified in the messages. Examples of suggestions include starting a poll, adding stickers to the conversation, group coordination and planning capabilities, etc. Suggestions such as these allow a user to make use of various capabilities provided by the messaging service, even if the user does not know that the service exists, or how to invoke it.

Claims (44)

1. A computer-implemented method comprising:

receiving, in a messaging conversation between a plurality of participants, a user service prompt comprising natural language;

identifying that a bot capability exists pertaining to the user service prompt;

displaying a suggestion pertaining to the bot capability in the messaging conversation;

receiving an invocation of a bot configured to respond to the user service prompt by providing the bot capability;

querying the bot based on the user service prompt, wherein querying the bot comprises adding the bot to the messaging conversation as a participant and providing input to the bot from two or more of the participants in the messaging conversation; and

providing a response of the bot in the messaging conversation.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the user service prompt comprises an explicit invocation of a capability provided by the bot.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein identifying that the bot capability exists comprises:

analyzing one or more messages of the conversation using a natural language processor;

identifying an intent in the one or more messages; and

determining that one or more candidate bots exists corresponding to the identified intent, wherein the selected bot is selected from among the candidate bots.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the one or more candidate bots are retrieved, based on a relevancy score, from a bot catalog maintained by a messaging service managing the conversation.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the suggestion is displayed in an interactable mini-app inside of the conversation.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the bot is configured to start a poll among the participants of the conversation, suggest a graphical element to be added to the conversation, or provide a group coordination or planning capability.

7. A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions configured to cause a processor to:

receiving, in a messaging conversation between a plurality of participants, a user service prompt comprising natural language;

identifying that a bot capability exists pertaining to the user service prompt; displaying a suggestion pertaining to the bot capability in the messaging conversation;

receiving an invocation of a bot configured to respond to the user service prompt by providing the bot capability;

querying the bot based on the user service prompt, wherein querying the bot comprises adding the bot to the messaging conversation as a participant and providing input to the bot from two or more of the participants in the messaging conversation; and

providing a response of the bot in the messaging conversation.

8. The medium of claim 7 , wherein the user service prompt comprises an explicit invocation of a capability provided by the bot.

9. The medium of claim 7 , wherein identifying that the bot capability exists comprises:

analyzing one or more messages of the conversation using a natural language processor;

identifying an intent in the one or more messages; and

determining that one or more candidate bots exists corresponding to the identified intent, wherein the selected bot is selected from among the candidate bots.

10. The medium of claim 9 , wherein the one or more candidate bots are retrieved, based on a relevancy score, from a bot catalog maintained by a messaging service managing the conversation.

11. The medium of claim 7 , wherein the suggestion is displayed in an interactable mini-app inside of the conversation.

12. The medium of claim 7 , wherein the bot is configured to start a poll among the participants of the conversation, suggest a graphical element to be added to the conversation, or provide a group coordination or planning capability.

13. An apparatus comprising:

a network interface configured to receive, in a messaging conversation between a plurality of participants, a user service prompt comprising natural language; and

a processor circuit configured to:

identify that a bot capability exists pertaining to the user service prompt;

cause a suggestion pertaining to the bot capability to be displayed in the messaging conversation;

receive an invocation of a bot configured to respond to the user service prompt by providing the bot capability;

query the bot based on the user service prompt, wherein querying the bot comprises adding the bot to the messaging conversation as a participant and providing input to the bot from two or more of the participants in the messaging conversation; and

provide a response of the bot in the messaging conversation.

14. The apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the user service prompt comprises an explicit invocation of a capability provided by the bot.

15. The apparatus of claim 13 , wherein identifying that the bot capability exists comprises:

analyzing one or more messages of the conversation using a natural language processor;

identifying an intent in the one or more messages; and

determining that one or more candidate bots exists corresponding to the identified intent, wherein the selected bot is selected from among the candidate bots.

16. The apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the suggestion is displayed in an interactable mini-app inside of the conversation.

17. The apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the bot is configured to start a poll among the participants of the conversation, suggest a graphical element to be added to the conversation, or provide a group coordination or planning capability.
