Abstract

A lighting fixture includes a fixture housing. A circuit board is positioned in the fixture housing. The circuit board includes a driver circuit. A plurality of light emitters are disposed on the circuit board. The light emitters are operatively connected to the driver circuit to produce a light output. A temperature sensor is disposed on the circuit board, the temperature sensor configured to measure a temperature of the circuit board and output a signal. The driver circuit is configured to reduce the light output in response to the signal from the temperature sensor.

Claims (40)

1. A lighting fixture comprising:

a fixture housing;

a circuit board positioned in the fixture housing, the circuit board connected to a driver circuit;

a plurality of light emitters disposed on the circuit board, the light emitters operatively connected to the driver circuit to produce a light output;

a reflector extending between the circuit board and the fixture housing, the reflector having a central portion and a sensor housing extending from the central portion;

a temperature sensor disposed on the circuit board and extending into the sensor housing, the temperature sensor configured to measure a temperature of the circuit board and output a signal; and

a lens connected to the fixture housing over the circuit board and the reflector,

wherein the driver circuit is configured to reduce the light output in response to the signal from the temperature sensor.

2. The lighting fixture of claim 1 , wherein the signal includes a current output.

3. The lighting fixture of claim 1 , wherein the temperature sensor includes a solid-state temperature sensor.

4. The lighting fixture of claim 1 , wherein the temperature sensor includes a bi-metal temperature sensor.

5. The lighting fixture of claim 1 , wherein the temperature sensor includes an NTC thermistor.

6. The lighting fixture of claim 1 , wherein the driver circuit is configured to reduce the light output when the signal passes a threshold value indicating a maximum temperature of the circuit board.

7. The lighting fixture of claim 6 , wherein the maximum temperature is below 90 degrees Celsius.

8. The lighting fixture of claim 1 , wherein the light output is reduced to approximately 50% of a maximum output.

9. The lighting fixture of claim 1 , wherein the light output is reduced to 0% of a maximum output.

10. The lighting fixture of claim 1 , wherein the reflector is positioned between the temperature sensor and the circuit board.

11. A lighting fixture comprising:

a fixture housing;

a circuit board positioned in the fixture housing, the circuit board including a driver circuit;

a reflector extending between the circuit board and the fixture housing, the reflector having a central portion and a sensor housing extending from the central portion;

a plurality of light emitters disposed on the circuit board, the light emitters operatively connected to the driver circuit to produce a light output;

a temperature sensor connected the circuit board and extending into the sensor housing, the temperature sensor configured to measure a temperature of the circuit board and output a signal,

wherein the driver circuit is configured to reduce the light output in response to the signal from the temperature sensor.

12. The lighting fixture of claim 11 , wherein the signal includes a current output.

13. The lighting fixture of claim 11 , wherein the temperature sensor includes a bi-metal temperature sensor.

14. The lighting fixture of claim 11 , wherein a slot is formed in the central portion of the reflector and the temperature sensor extends through the slot into the sensor housing.

15. The lighting fixture of claim 11 , wherein the driver circuit is configured to reduce the light output when the signal passes a threshold value.

16. The lighting fixture of claim 15 , wherein the light output is reduced to 0% of a maximum output.

17. A lighting fixture comprising:

a fixture housing;

a circuit board positioned in the fixture housing;

a plurality of light emitters disposed on a first portion of the circuit board;

a driver circuit disposed on a second portion of the circuit board, the driver circuit operatively connected to the light emitters to produce a light output; and

a temperature sensor disposed on the first portion of the circuit board, the temperature sensor configured to measure a temperature of the circuit board and output a signal,

wherein the driver circuit is configured to reduce the light output in response to the signal from the temperature sensor, and

wherein the first portion of the circuit board is spaced from the second portion of the circuit board, and wherein the first portion is positioned closer to a center of the circuit board than the second portion.

18. The lighting fixture of claim 17 , wherein the temperature sensor includes an NTC thermistor.

19. The lighting fixture of claim 17 , wherein the driver circuit is configured to reduce the light output when the signal passes a threshold value.

20. The lighting fixture of claim 17 , wherein the light output is reduced to between approximately 50% and 0% of a maximum output.
