Abstract

A system may include sensors associated with structures, such that the sensors acquire data sets associated with the structures. The processor receives the data sets from the sensors, determines environmental conditions associated with the structures over a period of time, and determines a structural condition associated with one of the structures based on the data sets. The processor also determines a maintenance condition associated with the one of the structures based on one of the data sets, determines operating parameters associated with appliances within the structure based on the one of the data sets, and determines habits of occupants associated with the one of the structures based on the one of the data sets. The processor then adjusts properties of an insurance policy associated with the one of the structures based on the environmental conditions, the structural condition, the maintenance condition, the operating parameters, the habits, or any combination thereof.

Claims (56)

1. A system, comprising:

a plurality of sensors associated with a dwelling structure, wherein the plurality of sensors is configured to acquire a plurality of data sets associated with the dwelling structure; and

a processor configured to:

determine a maintenance condition associated with the dwelling structure based on an age of the dwelling structure, a type of the dwelling structure, or any combination thereof;

receive the plurality of data sets from the plurality of sensors;

determine, based on the plurality of data sets, two or more of:

an environmental condition associated with the dwelling structure;

a structural condition associated with the dwelling structure;

an operating parameter associated with one or more appliances within or adjacent to the dwelling structure; or

a habit of an occupant associated with the dwelling structure; and

adjust a deductible, a premium, a coverage amount, a coverage area, or a coverage type of an insurance policy associated with the dwelling structure based on:

the maintenance condition; and

the two or more of the environmental condition, the structural condition, the operating parameter, or the habit.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the processor is configured to:

determine, based on the plurality of data sets, the environmental condition and the structural condition; and

adjust the deductible, the premium, the coverage amount, the coverage area, or the coverage type of the insurance policy associated with the dwelling structure based on the environmental condition and the structural condition.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the processor is configured to:

determine, based on the plurality of data sets, the environmental condition and the operating parameter; and

adjust the deductible, the premium, the coverage amount, the coverage area, or the coverage type of the insurance policy associated with the dwelling structure based on the environmental condition and the operating parameter.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the processor is configured to:

determine, based on the plurality of data sets, the environmental condition and the habit and

adjust the deductible, the premium, the coverage amount, the coverage area, or the coverage type of the insurance policy associated with the dwelling structure based on the environmental condition and the habit.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the processor is configured to:

determine, based on the plurality of data sets, the structural condition and the operating parameter; and

adjust the deductible, the premium, the coverage amount, the coverage area, or the coverage type of the insurance policy associated with the dwelling structure based on the structural condition and the operating parameter.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the processor is configured to:

determine, based on the plurality of data sets, the structural condition and the habit; and

adjust the deductible, the premium, the coverage amount, the coverage area, or the coverage type of the insurance policy associated with the dwelling structure based on the structural condition and the habit.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the processor is configured to:

determine, based on the plurality of data sets, the operating parameter and the habit; and

adjust the deductible, the premium, the coverage amount, the coverage area, or the coverage type of the insurance policy associated with the dwelling structure based on the operating parameter and the habit.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the processor is configured to determine the one or more environmental conditions associated with the dwelling structure at least in part by determining an average wind speed and/or seismic information based on the plurality of data sets.

9. The system of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of sensors comprises a temperature sensor, a humidity sensor, a sound sensor, a wind speed sensor, or any combination thereof.

10. A method, comprising:

determining, via a processor, a maintenance condition associated with a dwelling structure based on an age of the dwelling structure;

receiving, at the processor and from a plurality of sensors associated with the dwelling structure, a plurality of data sets associated with the dwelling structure;

determining, via the processor and based on the plurality of data sets, a combination of at least two of:

an environmental condition associated with the dwelling structure;

a structural condition associated with the dwelling structure;

an operating parameter associated with one or more appliances within or adjacent to the dwelling structure; or

a habit of an occupant associated with the dwelling structure; and

adjusting, via the processor and based on the maintenance condition and the combination, a deductible, a premium, a coverage amount, a coverage area, or a coverage type of an insurance policy associated with the dwelling structure.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the combination comprises the environmental condition.

12. The method of claim 10 , wherein the combination comprises the structural condition.

13. The method of claim 10 , wherein the combination comprises the operating parameter.

14. The method of claim 10 , wherein the combination comprises the habit.

15. The method of claim 10 , comprising detecting, via the plurality of sensors, temperature, humidity, sound, wind speed, or any combination thereof.

16. A computer-readable medium comprising computer-executable instructions configured to cause a processor to:

receive, from a plurality of sensors associated with a dwelling structure, a plurality of data sets associated with the dwelling structure;

determine, based on the plurality of data sets, an environmental condition associated with the dwelling structure;

determine, based on the plurality of data sets, a structural condition associated with the dwelling structure;

determine, based on the plurality of data sets, an operating parameter associated with one or more appliances within or adjacent to the dwelling structure;

determine, based on the plurality of data sets, a habit of an occupant associated with the dwelling structure;

determine a maintenance condition associated with the dwelling structure based on an age of the dwelling structure, a type of the dwelling structure, or any combination thereof; and

adjust a deductible, a premium, a coverage amount, a coverage area, or a coverage type of an insurance policy associated with the dwelling structure based on the maintenance condition, the environmental condition, the structural condition, the operating parameter, and the habit.

17. The computer-readable medium of claim 16 , wherein the plurality of data sets includes data indicative of information relating to temperature, humidity, sound, wind speed, or any combination thereof.
