Abstract

Systems and methods are disclosed herein for resolving a meaning of an ambiguous calendar entry and recommending broadcast media based on the meaning. To this end, a media guidance application may detect a calendar entry specific to a user, and determine that the calendar entry is ambiguous with respect to an associated period of time. In response to determining that the calendar entry is ambiguous with respect to the associated period of time, the media guidance application may determine characteristics of the calendar entry and the user, and compute an estimated range of time corresponding to the calendar entry based on the characteristic of the calendar entry and the characteristic of the user. The media guidance application may then generate for display a recommendation of broadcast media based on the estimated range of time.

Claims (43)

1. A method comprising:

analyzing user data to identify a planned task;

determining an estimated range of time corresponding to the planned task, wherein the estimated range of time is pre-planned to occur at a first time;

generating a list of media assets for display, wherein the list excludes a first media asset that is scheduled to be delivered in the estimated range of time;

receiving proof of completion of the task prior to an expiration of the estimated range of time corresponding to the planned task; and

in response to receiving the proof of completion of the task prior to the expiration of the estimated range of time corresponding to the planned task, modifying the list of media assets to include the first media asset that is scheduled to be delivered in the estimated range of time.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the planned task is associated with a document, and wherein the proof of completion comprises an electronically submitted modified document.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the planned task is associated with a shopping list, and wherein the proof of completion comprises a photograph of an item listed in the shopping list.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the proof of completion comprises an indication of completion of the task received from the user.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the proof of completion comprises an indication of completion of the task provided by inputting credentials.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising generating for display an interface to allow proof of completion to be inputted.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein identifying a planned task comprises:

detecting a planned task specific to a user; and

determining that the planned task is ambiguous with respect to an associated period of time.

8. A system for recommending media, the system comprising:

control circuitry configured to:

analyze user data to identify a planned task;

determine an estimated range of time corresponding to the planned task, wherein the estimated range of time is pre-planned to occur at a first time;

input/output path configured to:

generate a list of media assets for display, wherein the list excludes a first media asset that is scheduled to be delivered in the estimated range of time;

wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:

receive proof of completion of the task prior to an expiration of the estimated range of time corresponding to the planned task; and

wherein the input/output path is further configured to:

modify the list of media based on the completion of the task prior to the expiration of the estimated range of time corresponding to the planned task.

9. The system of claim 8 , wherein the planned task is associated with a document, and wherein the proof of completion comprises an electronically submitted modified document.

10. The system of claim 8 , wherein the planned task is associated with a shopping list, and wherein the proof of completion comprises a photograph of an item listed in the shopping list.

11. The system of claim 8 , wherein the proof of completion comprises an indication of completion of the task received from the user.

12. The system of claim 8 , wherein the proof of completion comprises an indication of completion of the task provided by inputting credentials.

13. The method of claim 8 , wherein the input/output path is further configured to:

generate an interface for display to allow proof of completion to be inputted.

14. The system of claim 8 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured, when identifying a planned task, to:

detect a planned task specific to a user; and

determine that the planned task is ambiguous with respect to an associated period of time.

15. A non-transitory computer-readable medium having instructions encoded thereon that when executed by control circuitry causes the control circuitry to:

analyze user data to identify a planned task;

determine an estimated range of time corresponding to the planned task, wherein the estimated range of time is pre-planned to occur at a first time;

generate a list of media assets for display, wherein the list excludes a first media asset that is scheduled to be delivered in the estimated range of time;

receive proof of completion of the task prior to an expiration of the estimated range of time corresponding to the planned task; and

modify the list of media based on the completion of the task prior to an expiration of the estimated range of time corresponding to the planned task.

16. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the planned task is associated with a document, and wherein the proof of completion comprises an electronically submitted modified document.

17. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the planned task is associated with a shopping list, and wherein the proof of completion comprises a photograph of an item listed in the shopping list.

18. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the proof of completion comprises an indication of completion of the task received from the user.

19. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the proof of completion comprises an indication of completion of the task provided by inputting credentials.
