Abstract

A distributed enhanced payment processing system includes a merchant point of sale (POS) terminal system and a remote payment management system. The POS terminal system initiates a transaction that includes receiving a payment amount, a purchaser account identifier, a virtual electronic payment indicator, and a merchant ID via a payment client. Subsequently, the POS terminal system outputs the transaction to the remote payment management system which generates a token for the transaction. The payment management system then provides the purchaser account identifier, a merchant account identifier, and the payment amount to a remote virtual electronic payment (VEP) entity system. Upon receiving a VEP entity system response, the payment management system outputs the response and token to the POS terminal system.

Claims (82)

determining, at a point of sale (POS) terminal, a transaction type associated with an electronic transaction;

identifying, based on input received from a purchaser at an input device associated with the POS terminal, a selected tender option;

ascertaining, subsequent to the identifying, that the selected tender option requires authorization from a remote electronic transaction management system associated with the POS terminal;

determining, using the remote electronic transaction management system, a chosen payer client, wherein the determining comprises:

providing, subsequent to the ascertaining and on a display device associated with the POS terminal, a presentation of one or more merchant-approved payer options associated with the selected tender option;

7. The method of claim 4 , further comprising:

receiving, by the remote electronic transaction management system, the token from the POS terminal;

determining, by the remote electronic transaction management system, whether the group identifier is correlated with a merchant identifier associated with the POS terminal; and

based on determining that the group identifier is correlated with the merchant identifier associated with the POS terminal, transmitting, by the remote electronic transaction management system, the unique account identifier to the electronic transaction entity system, or

based on determining that the group identifier is not correlated with the merchant identifier associated with the POS terminal, transmitting, by the remote electronic transaction management system, an electronic transaction decline message to the POS terminal.

8. A system comprising:

at least one processor;

at least one storage comprising instructions which, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to perform operations for enhanced electronic transaction processing, the operations comprising:

determining, at a point of sale (POS) terminal, a transaction type associated with an electronic transaction;

identifying, based on input received from a purchaser at an input device associated with the POS terminal, a selected tender option;

ascertaining, subsequent to the identifying, that the selected tender option requires authorization from a remote electronic transaction management system associated with the POS terminal;

determining, using the remote electronic transaction management system, a chosen payer client, wherein the determining comprises:

providing, subsequent to the ascertaining and on a display device associated with the POS terminal, a presentation of one or more merchant-approved payer options associated with the selected tender option;

receiving a selection by the purchaser of one of the one or more merchant-approved payer options; and

establishing, as the chosen payer client, the selected one of the one or more merchant-approved payer options;

receiving, at the remote electronic transaction management system and via a facility based on the chosen payer client, payment credentials, wherein the payment credentials comprise an electronic transaction amount, a unique account identifier, and an electronic transaction entity identifier associated with the chosen payer client;

transmitting, using the remote electronic transaction management system, a payment authorization request to the chosen payer client;

detecting, by the remote electronic transaction management system, that an electronic transaction entity system associated with the chosen payer client is non-communicative, wherein the detecting comprises:

transmitting, by the remote electronic transaction management system through a wireless network, a handshake request to the electronic transaction entity system; and

determining, by the remote electronic transaction management system, that no response to the handshake request is received from the electronic transaction entity system;

generating, based on the detecting that the electronic transaction entity system is non-communicative and upon identifying that the chosen payer client is a high-volume payer, a substitute electronic transaction approval response;
