Abstract

A nutritional composition, typically an infant enterically administered nutritional composition, that comprises a milk fat globule membrane component, at least one human milk oligosaccharide and one additional component or a plurality of additional components where the additional component or components include DHA, ARA, Vitamin E, Vitamin C, and sphingomyelin.

Claims (10)

1. A nutritional composition comprising: a milk fat globule membrane component derived from whey protein sources, wherein the milk fat globule membrane component is in dry powder form, has a protein content of at least about 60% by weight of the milk fat globule membrane component and has a lactose content of not more than about 5% by weight of the milk fat globule membrane component; at least one human milk oligosaccharide including 2′FL; and at least one additional component chosen from the group consisting of: DHA, ARA, Vitamin E, Vitamin C, and sphingomyelin.

2. The nutritional composition of claim 1 , wherein the milk fat globule membrane has a lactose content of not more than about 3% by weight of the milk fat globule membrane component.

3. The nutritional composition of claim 2 , wherein the milk fat globule membrane component has a protein content of at least about 75% by weight of the milk fat globule membrane component.

4. The nutritional composition of claim 1 , wherein the at least one human milk oligosaccharide consists of 2′FL and wherein the nutritional composition is free of any dietary butyrate.

5. The nutritional composition of claim 1 , wherein the at least one human milk oligosaccharide also comprises at least one human milk oligosaccharide chosen from the group consisting of fucosyllactose, 3FL, Lacto-N-fucopentaose I (LNFP I), LNFP II, LNFP I, LNFP V, and mixtures thereof.

6. The nutritional composition of claim 5 , wherein the at least one human milk oligosaccharide is present in the nutritional composition in an amount of from about 0.2 g to about 3.0 g per reconstituted liter (RL).

7. The nutritional composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition provides synergistically enhanced amounts of the docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) in the phospholipid form due to the synergistic combination of the at least one human milk oligosaccharide, the milk fat globule membrane and the DHA.

8. The nutritional composition of claim 1 , wherein the nutritional composition is an infant formula composition and further comprises docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) in an amount of from about 37 mg to about 180 mg per reconstituted liter (RL) of the infant formula.

9. The nutritional composition of claim 8 , wherein the nutritional composition is a term infant formula.

10. The nutritional composition of claim 1 , wherein the nutritional composition is a term infant formula or a human milk fortifier.
