Abstract

A system for communicating information indicative of driving conditions, to a driver, using a smart ring are disclosed. An exemplary system includes a smart ring with a ring band having a plurality of surfaces including an inner surface, an outer surface, a first side surface, and a second side surface. The system further includes a processor, configured to obtain data from a communication module within the ring band, or from one or more sensors disposed within the ring band. The obtained data is representative of information indicative of one or more driving conditions to be communicated to the driver. The smart ring also includes a haptic module disposed at least partially within the ring band, and the module being configured to communicate information indicative of the one or more driving conditions.

Claims (60)

1. A system for communicating information indicative of driving conditions to a driver of a vehicle via a smart ring device comprising:

a ring band having a plurality of surfaces including an inner surface, an outer surface, a first side surface, and a second side surface, the ring band comprising:

a first housing configured to house one or more first components of the smart ring device; and

a second housing mechanically connected to the first housing, the second housing configured to house one or more second components of the smart ring device;

a processor disposed within the ring band and configured to:

receive data from: a communication module disposed within the ring band or one or more sensors disposed within the ring band; and

analyze the data to identify one or more driving conditions;

wherein the one or more sensors comprise a biometric sensor configured to monitor biometric information for a wearer of the smart ring device;

wherein the identified one or more driving conditions comprise a physiological state of the driver;

wherein the physiological state of the driver is determined based at least in part on biometric information measured by the biometric sensor;

a haptic module disposed at least partially within one of the first housing and the second housing of the ring band and communicatively coupled to the processor, wherein the processor is configured to cause the haptic module to provide, to a user of the smart ring device, a haptic output indicative of the identified one or more driving conditions; and

an electronic ink (e-ink) display disposed on the outer surface of the ring band and communicatively coupled to the processor, wherein the processor is configured to cause the e-ink display to present information indicative of the identified one or more driving conditions;

wherein the haptic output includes an indication of the physiological state of the driver;

wherein at least a part of the haptic module is disposed on the inner surface of the ring band;

wherein the inner surface of the ring band is different from the outer surface of the ring band;

wherein the first housing includes a part of the inner surface of the ring band and a part of the outer surface of the ring band;

wherein the second housing includes a part of the inner surface of the ring band and a part of the outer surface of the ring band.

2. A system according to claim 1 , wherein the haptic module comprises at least one selected from a group consisting of a linear resonant actuator, a piezoelectric actuator, a vibrator, an ultrasound transducer, an air vortex generator, and a fan.

3. A system according to claim 1 , further comprising an audio module configured to provide, to the user of the smart ring device, one or more audio outputs indicative of the one or more driving conditions.

4. A system according to claim 1 , further comprising:

a user input module configured to receive a user input and generate an electrical signal indicative of the user input.

5. A system according to claim 4 , wherein the user input module comprises one of a microphone configured to receive audio input from the user of the smart ring device, and a haptic input module configured to receive haptic input from the user of the smart ring device.

6. A system according to claim 4 , wherein the user input comprises a user login and a user verification.

7. A system according to claim 4 , wherein the haptic output includes at least one selected from a group consisting of a pulse, a heating output, a tactile sensation, a squeeze, a pulse squeeze, and a rotation; wherein the haptic output is selected based at least in part upon the user input.

A system according to claim 1 , wherein the identified one or more driving conditions include at least one selected from a group consisting of a speed of the vehicle, an acceleration of the vehicle, a current weather condition, a sleepiness condition of the driver, a cognoscente condition of a driver, an operational status of the vehicle, an inebriation condition of the driver, and biometric information of a wearer of the smart ring device.

9. A system according to claim 1 , wherein the one or more sensors are further configured to transmit, via the communication module, the biometric information to a mobile device associated with the driver of the vehicle.

10. A system according to claim 1 , wherein the processor is configured to receive, via the communication module, the data from a mobile device associated with the driver of the vehicle, and wherein the mobile device is configured to obtain the data from one or more sensors of the vehicle.

A system according to claim 1 , wherein the processor is configured to selectively generate the haptic output based upon at least one selected from a group consisting of a type of the identified one or more driving conditions, content associated with the identified one or more driving conditions, a current environment, and a privacy consideration.

12. A system according to claim 1 , wherein the first housing of the ring band is removably connected to the second housing of the ring band.

13. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the first housing and the second housing are disposed axially to form the ring band.

14. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the first housing and the second housing are disposed azimuthally to form the ring band.

15. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the plurality of surfaces of the ring band include only two coaxial band surfaces; wherein the two coaxial band surfaces are the inner surface and the outer surface.

16. A method of communicating information indicative of driving conditions to a driver of a vehicle via a smart ring device comprising:

receiving, by a processor disposed in a ring band of the smart ring device configured to be worn by the driver, data from: a communication module disposed within the ring band, or one or more sensors disposed within the ring band;

analyzing, by the processor, the data to identify one or more driving conditions;

providing a haptic output indicative of the identified one or more driving conditions via a haptic module disposed at least partially within a first housing of the ring band; and

causing an electronic ink (e-ink) display to present information indicative of the identified one or more driving conditions, and

wherein the ring band has a plurality of surfaces including an inner surface, an outer surface, a first side surface, and a second side surface;

wherein the ring band includes the first housing and a second housing mechanically connected to the first housing;

wherein the first housing configured to house one or more first components of the smart ring device;

wherein the second housing configured to house one or more second components of the smart ring device;

wherein the e-ink display is disposed on the outer surface of the ring band;

wherein at least a part of the haptic module is disposed on the inner surface of the ring band;

wherein the inner surface of the ring band is different from the outer surface of the ring band;

wherein the one or more sensors comprise a biometric sensor configured to monitor biometric information of a wearer of the smart ring device;

wherein the identified one or more driving conditions comprise a physiological state of the driver;

wherein the physiological state of the driver is determined based at least in part on biometric information measured by the biometric sensor;

wherein the haptic output includes an indication of the physiological state of the driver;

wherein the first housing includes a part of the inner surface of the ring band and a part of the outer surface of the ring band;

wherein the second housing includes a part of the inner surface of the ring band and a part of the outer surface of the ring band.

17. A method according to claim 16 , wherein the haptic module comprises at least one selected from a group consisting of an eccentric rotating mass actuator, a linear resonant actuator, a piezoelectric actuator, a vibrator, and an ultrasound transducer.

18. A method according to claim 16 , further comprising communicating information indicative of the identified one or more driving conditions via audio outputs provided by an audio module.

19. A method according to claim 16 , further comprising:

receiving, via a user input module, a user input and generating an electrical signal indicative of the user input.

20. A method according to claim 19 , wherein the user input module comprises one of a microphone configured to receive audio input from a user of the smart ring device, or a haptic input module configured to receive haptic input from the user of the smart ring device.

21. A method according to claim 19 , wherein the user input comprises one of a user login and user verification.

22. A method according to claim 16 , wherein the identified one or more driving conditions include at least one selected from a group consisting of a speed of the vehicle, an acceleration of the vehicle, a current weather condition, a sleepiness condition of the driver, a cognoscente condition of the driver, an operational status of the vehicle, an inebriation condition of the driver, and biometric information of a wearer of the smart ring device.

A method according to claim 16 , wherein the receiving the data comprises receiving the data, via the communication module, from a mobile device that is associated with the driver of the vehicle, and wherein the mobile device is configured to obtain the data from one or more sensors of the vehicle.

24. A method according to claim 16 , further comprising:

transmitting, via the communication module, the biometric information to a mobile device associated with the driver of the vehicle.
