Abstract

Systems and methods of adjusting the diameter of an endoluminal prosthesis that allows for controlled radial deployment of the endoluminal prosthesis and the ability to revise the positioning of the endoluminal prosthesis after unsheathing. The endoluminal prosthesis includes a stent graft having a tubular graft wall, a stent, a main strand, a proximal strand, and a distal strand.

Claims (38)

1. A stent graft comprising:

a tubular graft wall,

a stent,

a longitudinally extending strand, and

a circumferentially extending strand;

wherein the tubular graft wall defines an internal lumen of the stent graft and comprises a first surface and a second surface;

wherein the stent is positioned on the first surface of the tubular graft wall and comprises a plurality of apices;

wherein the circumferentially extending strand is positioned on at least the first surface of the tubular graft wall and coupled to a first point on the stent and a second point on the stent circumferentially spaced from the first point;

wherein the longitudinally extending strand is positioned along one of the first and second surfaces of the tubular graft wall and connected to the circumferentially extending strand on one of the first and second surfaces of the tubular graft wall; and

wherein the longitudinally extending strand is configured to be moved longitudinally in a first direction to pull the circumferentially extending strand to at least partially reduce the diameter of the stent graft.

2. The stent graft of claim 1 , wherein the circumferentially extending strand is positioned on the first and second surfaces of the tubular graft wall.

3. The stent graft of claim 1 , wherein the first point is a first apex of the plurality of apices of the stent and the second point is second apex of the plurality of apices of the stent.

4. The stent graft of claim 1 , further comprising a second stent, a second longitudinally extending strand and a second circumferentially extending strand.

5. The stent graft of claim 4 , wherein the second stent is positioned on the first surface of the tubular graft wall and comprises a plurality of apices.

6. The stent graft of claim 5 , wherein the second circumferentially extending strand is connected to the second stent at a first point on the second stent and a second point on the second stent circumferentially spaced from the first point and the second longitudinally extending strand is configured to be moved longitudinally in a first direction to pull the circumferentially extending strand to at least partially reduce the diameter of the stent graft.

7. The stent graft of claim 6 , wherein the second longitudinally extending strand is configured to be moved longitudinally in a second direction to release the second circumferentially extending strand and increase the diameter of the stent graft from an at least partially reduced diameter.

8. The stent graft of claim 6 , wherein the first point is a first apex of the plurality of apices of the second stent and the second point is a second apex of the plurality of apices of the second stent.

9. The stent graft of claim 4 , wherein the second circumferentially extending strand is positioned on the first and second surfaces of the tubular graft wall.

10. The stent graft of claim 1 , wherein the longitudinally extending strand is configured to be moved longitudinally in a second direction to release the circumferentially extending strand and increase the diameter of the stent graft from an at least partially reduced diameter.

11. The stent graft of claim 1 , further comprising a second stent having a plurality of apices and a second circumferentially extending strand, wherein the second circumferentially extending strand is connected to the second stent at a first point on the second stent and a second point on the second stent spaced circumferentially from the first point, and wherein the longitudinally extending strand is configured to be moved longitudinally to pull the second circumferentially extending strand to at least partially reduce the diameter of the stent graft.

12. The stent graft of claim 1 , wherein the first point is a first strut of the stent and the second point is a second strut of the stent and the circumferentially extending thread is looped around the first and second struts.

13. The stent graft of claim 1 further comprising a wire that disengages the longitudinally extending strand and the circumferentially extending strand from the stent.

14. A system for adjusting a diameter of an endoluminal prosthesis, the system comprising:

a stent graft comprising a tubular graft wall, at least one stent, a longitudinally extending strand, and a circumferentially extending strand;

wherein the tubular graft wall defines an internal lumen of the stent graft and comprises a first surface and a second surface;

wherein the stent is positioned on the first surface of the tubular graft wall;

wherein the circumferentially extending strand is positioned on at least the first surface of the tubular graft wall and coupled or connected to the stent at a first point on the stent and a second point on the stent circumferentially spaced from the first point;

wherein the longitudinally extending strand is positioned along one of the first and second surfaces of the tubular graft wall;

wherein the longitudinally strand comprises a first end and a second end, the first end being connected to the circumferentially extending strand;

wherein a first longitudinal movement of the longitudinally extending strand pulls the circumferentially extending strand in a first direction and reduces the diameter of the endoluminal prosthesis and second longitudinal movement of the longitudinally extending strand in a second direction expands the endoluminal prosthesis from a reduced diameter.

15. The system of claim 14 , wherein stent comprises a plurality of apices and the first point is a first apex of the stent and the second point is a second apex of the stent.

16. The system of claim 15 , wherein the first apex and the second apex are adjacent.

17. The system of claim 15 , further comprising a third apex disposed between the first and second apex.

18. The system of claim 14 , wherein the first point is a first strut of the stent and the second point is a second strut of the stent and the circumferentially extending thread is looped around the first and second struts.

19. A method of adjusting a diameter of an endoluminal prosthesis comprising a stent graft having a tubular graft wall, a stent, a longitudinally extending strand positioned along the tubular graft wall, and at least one circumferentially extending strand connected to the stent at a first point on the stent and a second point on the stent circumferentially spaced from the first point, wherein a first end of the longitudinally extending strand is connected to the circumferentially extending strand at a point on the circumferentially extending strand at a point between the first point and the second point;

the method comprising:

reducing the diameter of the endoluminal prosthesis to a second smaller diameter by pulling the longitudinally extending strand in a first direction, wherein pulling the longitudinally extending strand pulls the circumferential strand in the first direction and moves the first and second points circumferentially toward each other; and increasing the diameter of the endoluminal prosthesis by releasing the longitudinal strand such that the first and second points move away from each other.

20. The method of claim 19 , wherein the first and second points are two apices of a plurality of apices of the stent.
