Abstract

Methods and systems are provided for configuring static memory in a device by analyzing a set of functionalities of a first device based on at least one use case wherein the at least one use case are associated with configuring available static memory in processing at least one functionality of the first device; configuring at least a first profile composed of the first part for memory allocation of the available static memory to a first processor, and a second part for memory allocation of the available static memory to a second processor of the first device; selecting the first profile either automatically or via a graphical user interface (GUI) by identifying a set of performance characteristics related to the functionality, and implementing the memory allocation by the first profile in processing the at least one functionality in the use case by the first device.

Claims (60)

1. A method for configuring static random-access memory (SRAM) in a first device, the method comprising:

analyzing a set of functionalities of the first device based on a use case, wherein the use case is associated with configuring available SRAM in processing at least one functionality of the first device;

configuring a first memory profile comprising a first part for memory allocation of the available SRAM to a first processor of the first device, and a second part for memory allocation of the available SRAM to a second processor of the first device;

selecting the first memory profile via a graphical user interface (GUI) by identifying a set of performance characteristics related to the at least one functionality for the first device, wherein the first device implements the selected first memory profile during boot; and

implementing, while booting the first device, the first memory allocation for a first SRAM part and the second memory allocation for a second SRAM part as configured by the first memory profile in response to selection of the first memory profile,

wherein implementing the second memory allocation releases, while booting the first device, unused SRAM from a default memory allocation available to the second processor,

wherein implementing the first memory allocation adds, while booting the first device, the released unused SRAM to a default memory allocation available to the first processor, and

wherein the selected first memory profile enables adjustment of allocated SRAM parts and streaming content quality of the first device based on a user input and feedback that is responsive to the user input and influenced by the set of performance characteristics associated with a second device communicating with the first device, wherein the first device is a streaming media server and the second device is a client media receiver.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

selecting a second memory profile via the GUI by identifying a second set of performance characteristics related to the functionality of the first device; and

implementing the memory allocation for the first SRAM part and the second SRAM part of the SRAM defined by the second memory profile for processing the functionality for another use case by the first device.

3. The method of claim 2 , further comprising:

selecting the first memory profile for implementing by the first device the functionality related to streaming media content to the second device in accordance with the memory allocation for the first SRAM part and the memory allocation for the second SRAM part and further in accordance with a content quality parameter supported by the second device.

4. The method of claim 3 , further comprising:

in response to an actuation of the first device, automatically instructing, by instructions stored in a memory of the first device during start-up to select a profile, a selection of a profile for implementation of the functionality related to streaming media content to the second device in accordance with the memory allocation for the first SRAM part and the memory allocation for the second SRAM part and further in accordance with a content quality parameter supported by the second device.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein an available memory is a configured constant value composed of a sum of an amount of the first SRAM part and the second SRAM part.

6. The method of claim 5 , further comprising:

configuring a relationship of an amount of allocated available memory of the first SRAM part to the amount of the second SRAM part wherein a change in either amount is compensated by an opposite change by another for a total sum of both amounts remains the configured constant value.

7. The method of claim 6 , further comprising:

identifying by the first memory profile a first performance characteristic associated with the functionality for processing by the first processor with the allocated available memory.

8. The method of claim 7 , further comprising:

identifying by the second memory profile a second performance characteristic associated with the functionality for processing by the first processor with the allocated available memory.

9. The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

providing, at a client device, a graphical user interface display, including an indication of allocation of available memory of the first device resulting from the automatically instructing the available memory first device in response to the actuation.

10. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving, via a graphical user interface (GUI), a user input pertaining to allocation of available memory of the device for configuring an available memory by identifying a set of performance characteristics related to the functionality for the first device.

11. At least one non-transitory computer-readable medium encoded with instructions which, when executed by a processor, performs a method for configuring static random-access memory (SRAM) in a device comprising:

analyzing a set of functionalities of a first device based on a use case wherein the use case is associated with configuring available SRAM in processing a functionality of the first device;

configuring a first memory profile comprising a first part for memory allocation of the available SRAM to a first processor, and a second part for memory allocation of the available SRAM to a second processor of the first device;

selecting the first memory profile via a graphical user interface (GUI) by identifying a set of performance characteristics related to the functionality for the first device; and

implementing, while booting the first device, the memory allocation for a first SRAM part and the memory allocation for a second SRAM part as configured by the first memory profile,

wherein implementing the second memory allocation releases, while booting the first device, unused SRAM from a default memory allocation available to the second processor,

wherein implementing the first memory allocation adds, while booting the first device, the released unused SRAM to a default memory allocation available to the first processor, and

wherein the selected first memory profile enables adjustment of allocated SRAM parts and streaming content quality of the first device based on a user input and feedback that is responsive to the user input and influenced by the set of performance characteristics associated with a second device communicating with the first device, wherein the first device is a streaming media server and the second device is a client media receiver.

12. The method of claim 11 , further comprising:

selecting a second memory profile via the GUI by identifying another set of performance characteristics related to the functionality for the first device; and

implementing the memory allocation for the first SRAM part and the second SRAM part of the SRAM, defined by the second memory profile for processing the functionality for another use case by the first device.

13. The method of claim 12 , further comprising:

selecting the first memory profile for implementing by the first device the functionality related to streaming media content to the second device in accordance with the memory allocation for the first SRAM part and the memory allocation for the second SRAM part and further in accordance with a content quality parameter supported by the second device.

14. The method of claim 13 , further comprising:

in response to an actuation of the first device, automatically instructing, by instructions stored in a memory of the first device during start-up to select a profile, a selection of a profile for implementation of the functionality related to streaming media content to the second device in accordance with the memory allocation for the first SRAM part and the memory allocation for the second SRAM part and further in accordance with a content quality parameter supported by the second device.

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein an available memory is a configured constant value composed of a sum of an amount of the first SRAM part and the second SRAM part.

16. The method of claim 15 , further comprising:

configuring a relationship of the amount of allocated available memory of the first SRAM part to the amount of the second SRAM part wherein a change in either amount is compensated by an opposite change by another for a total sum of both amounts remains the configured constant value.

17. The method of claim 16 , further comprising:

identifying by the first memory profile a first performance characteristic associated with the functionality for processing by the first processor with the allocated available memory; and

identifying by the second memory profile a second performance characteristic associated with the functionality for processing by the first processor with the allocated available memory.

18. The method of claim 17 , further comprising:

providing, at a client device, a graphical user interface display, including an indication of allocation of available memory of the first device resulting from the automatically instructing the available memory first device in response to the actuation.

19. The method of claim 18 , further comprising:

receiving, via a graphical user interface (GUI), a user input pertaining to allocation of available memory of the device for configuring an available memory by identifying a set of performance characteristics related to the functionality for the first device.

20. A media system for providing a media stream to a client over a network, the media system comprising:

a control module configured to:

analyze a set of functionalities of a first device based on a use case wherein the use case is associated with configuring available static random-access memory (SRAM) in processing a functionality of the first device;

configure a first memory profile comprising a first part for memory allocation of the available SRAM to a first processor, and a second part for memory allocation of the available SRAM to a second processor of the first device;

select the first memory profile via a graphical user interface (GUI) by identifying a set of performance characteristics related to the functionality for the first device; and

implement, while booting the first device, the memory allocation for a first SRAM part and the memory allocation for a second SRAM part as configured by the first memory profile,

wherein the second memory allocation releases, while booting the first device, unused SRAM from a default memory allocation available to the second processor,

wherein implementing the first memory allocation adds, while booting the first device, the released unused SRAM to a default memory allocation available to the first processor, and

wherein the selected first memory profile allocates SRAM parts during boot-up based on a user input, wherein the selected first memory profile enables adjustment of allocated SRAM parts and streaming content quality of the first device based on the user input and feedback that is responsive to the user input and influenced by the set of performance characteristics associated with a second device communicating with the first device, wherein the first device is a streaming media server and the second device is a client media receiver.
