Abstract

A video gaming machine provides partial symbols that match other partial symbols across adjacent horizontal frames. Matches of two melding frames provides absolute payouts, multipliers, bonus events and the like.

Claims (36)

1. A method, comprising:

receiving, by an electronic gaming machine comprising one or more processors coupled to memory, a game wager associated with a player;

distributing, by the electronic gaming machine, a first set of random symbols into an at least 3-column by 3-row frame array displayed on a visual display, each random symbol of the first set of random symbols distributed into a respective frame of the at least 3-column by 3-row frame array, at least one of the first set of random symbols comprising a first partial symbol extending towards an edge of a first frame, wherein the edge of the first frame is adjacent to an edge of an adjacent second frame;

identifying, by the electronic gaming machine, a completed symbol formed by the first partial symbol in the first frame and a second partial symbol in the adjacent second frame;

identifying, by the electronic gaming machine, a first value shown by the completed symbol in the at least 3-column by 3-row frame array displayed on the visual display;

causing, by the electronic gaming machine, a credit balance associated with the player to be adjusted by the first value shown by the completed symbol;

distributing, by the electronic gaming machine, responsive to a second game wager associated with the player, a second set of random symbols into the at least 3-column by 3-row frame array, each random symbol of the second set of random symbols distributed into a respective frame of the at least 3-column by 3-row frame array, the second set of random symbols comprising the first partial symbol extending towards an edge of a third frame, wherein the edge of the first frame is adjacent to an edge of an adjacent fourth frame;

identifying, by the electronic gaming machine, a second value shown by a second completed symbol formed by the first partial symbol in the third frame and a third partial symbol in the adjacent fourth frame, the second value different from the first value; and

causing, by the electronic gaming machine, the credit balance associated with the player to be adjusted by the second value shown by the completed symbol.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein one or more partial symbols are configured to combine to form one or more complete indicators showing one or more respective award amounts.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein only adjacent symbols with partial images that show a specific award amount are rewarded.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein one or more partial symbols are combined to form a complete multiplier of an award.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors store, in the memory, a single image that can be completed by all of the at least 3-column by 3-row symbols, the single image associated with a distinct payout for completion of the single image.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors store, in the memory, a single image that can be completed by all of the at least 3-column by 3-row symbols, the single image associated with a distinct payout for completion of the single image in addition to payouts for individual sub-component images within the single image.

7. The method of claim 5 , wherein there are multiple separate and distinct ones of the single image stored in the memory and either randomly selected by the electronic gaming machine or elected by the player.

8. The method of claim 6 , wherein there are multiple separate and distinct ones of the single image stored in the memory and either randomly selected by the electronic gaming machine or elected by the player.

9. The method of claim 7 , wherein the electronic gaming machine further includes a player input control to scroll through the multiple separate and distinct ones of the single image stored in the memory, and the player scrolls through those multiple separate and distinct ones of the single image stored in the memory, stops at a desired single image and then causes the electronic gaming machine to distribute the first set of random symbols into the at least 3-column by 3-row frame array.

10. The method of claim 8 , wherein the electronic gaming machine further includes a player input control to scroll through the multiple separate and distinct ones of the single image stored in the memory, and the player scrolls through those multiple separate and distinct ones of the single image stored in the memory, stops at a desired single image and then causes the electronic gaming machine to distribute the first set of random symbols into the at least 3-column by 3-row frame array.

11. The method of claim 9 , wherein there is a paytable stored in the memory, and the paytable provides awards independent of any theme on the separate and distinct ones of the single image stored in the memory.

12. The method of claim 10 , wherein there is a paytable stored in the memory, and the paytable provides awards independent of any theme on the separate and distinct ones of the single image stored in the memory.

13. The method of claim 6 , further comprising providing, by the electronic gaming machine, a player input control to communicate with a central server at a gaming facility, and before initiation of a gaming event on the electronic gaming machine, the player input control is set by the player to select a specific compensation package managed by the gaming facility from among multiple compensation packages.

14. The method of claim 7 , further comprising providing, by the electronic gaming machine, a player input control to communicate with a central server at a gaming facility, and before initiation of a gaming event on the electronic gaming machine, the player input control is set by the player to select a specific compensation package managed by the gaming facility from among multiple compensation packages.

15. The method of claim 9 , further comprising a second player input control to communicate with a central server at a gaming facility, and before initiation of a gaming event on the electronic gaming machine, the second player input control is set by the player to select a specific compensation package managed by the gaming facility from among multiple compensation packages.

16. The method of claim 10 , further comprising a second player input control to communicate with a central server at a gaming facility, and before initiation of a gaming event on the electronic gaming machine, the second player input control is set by the player to select a specific compensation package managed by the gaming facility from among multiple compensation packages.

17. The method of claim 1 , wherein the second set of random symbols comprises the same symbols as the first set of random symbols.

18. The method of claim 1 , wherein the second set of random symbols comprises different symbols than the first set of random symbols.

19. A system, comprising:

one or more processors coupled to memory, the one or more processors configured to:

receive a game wager associated with a player;

distribute a first set of random symbols into an at least 3-column by 3-row frame array displayed on a visual display, each random symbol of the first set of random symbols distributed into a respective frame of the at least 3-column by 3-row frame array, at least one of the first set of random symbols comprising a first partial symbol extending towards an edge of a first frame, wherein the edge of the first frame is adjacent to an edge of an adjacent second frame;

identify a completed symbol formed by the first partial symbol in the first frame and a second partial symbol in the adjacent second frame;

identify a first value shown by the completed symbol in the at least 3-column by 3-row frame array displayed on the visual display;

cause a credit balance associated with the player to be adjusted by the first value shown by the completed symbol;

distribute, responsive to a second game wager associated with the player, a second set of random symbols into the at least 3-column by 3-row frame array, each random symbol of the second set of random symbols distributed into a respective frame of the at least 3-column by 3-row frame array, the second set of random symbols comprising the first partial symbol extending towards an edge of a third frame, wherein the edge of the first frame is adjacent to an edge of an adjacent fourth frame;

identify a second value shown by a second completed symbol formed by the first partial symbol in the third frame and a third partial symbol in the adjacent fourth frame, the second value different from the first value; and

cause the credit balance associated with the player to be adjusted by the second value shown by the completed symbol.
