Abstract

An OFDM transmitter spreads original data symbols with a complex-valued spreading matrix derived from a discrete Fourier transform. Spread data symbols are mapped to OFDM subcarriers. Spreading and mapping are configured to produce a transmitted spread-OFDM signal with a low peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) and orthogonal code spaces. In MIMO systems, the complex-valued spreading matrix can comprise a MIMO precoding matrix, and the code spaces can comprise MIMO subspaces. In Cooperative-MIMO, a combination of low code-space cross correlation and low PAPR can be achieved.

transmitting the sequence in the mobile radio communication network.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the plurality of different selectable subcarrier spacings equals at least one other of the plurality of different selectable subcarrier spacings multiplied by a scaling factor that is a power of two.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising adding a cyclic prefix to the sequence before transmitting the sequence in the mobile radio communication network.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein provisioning the plurality of different selectable subcarrier spacings is performed for a plurality of different deployment scenarios comprising different system requirements or different channel conditions, wherein each of the different selectable subcarrier spacings corresponds to a different one of the plurality of different deployment scenarios.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein each of the plurality of different selectable subcarrier spacings provides a different number of symbols per frame.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the transforming employs a discrete Fourier transform with a plurality of sampling rates that comprise harmonic frequencies.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining a delay spread in the mobile radio communication network; and based on the delay spread, selecting one of the plurality of different selectable subcarrier spacings is performed according to a first numerology or a second numerology; wherein the first numerology comprises a first one of the plurality of different selectable subcarrier spacings, and the second numerology comprises a second one of the plurality of different selectable subcarrier spacings.

8. An apparatus for communicating in a mobile radio communications network, comprising:

a non-transitory computer-readable memory storing one or more instructions; and

at least one processor in communication with the non-transitory computer-readable memory; wherein the one or more instructions, when executed by the at least one processor, causes the at least one processor to:

provision a plurality of different selectable subcarrier spacings for a plurality of consecutive Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) subcarriers;

transform a serial data stream into a sequence of data-modulated pulses positioned inside each symbol, the sequence comprising a superposition of the plurality of OFDM subcarriers;

wherein the transform selects a pulse spacing and symbol duration by selecting one of the plurality of different selectable subcarrier spacings, each of the plurality of different selectable subcarrier spacings corresponding to a different pulse spacing and symbol duration; and

transmit the sequence in the mobile radio communication network.

9. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein at least one of the plurality of different selectable subcarrier spacings equals at least one other of the plurality of different selectable subcarrier spacings multiplied by a scaling factor that is a power of two.
