Abstract

Ambulatory infusion pumps, medicament reservoirs, and medicament sealing assemblies, including a variety of trocar seal assemblies and fill plug seal assemblies, plus related components, as well as component combinations and related methods.

Claims (38)

1. An apparatus, comprising:

a medicament reservoir;

a reservoir outlet in fluid communication with the medicament reservoir;

a fill port in fluid communication with the medicament reservoir; and

a fill plug seal assembly, associated with the fill port and the reservoir outlet and including a fill plug having an inner surface defining a lumen and a core pin disposed in the lumen, the fill plug seal assembly configured to prevent medicament from flowing through the reservoir outlet when the core pin is in a first position and to permit medicament flow through a gap between an exterior surface of the core pin and the fill plug inner surface, and through the reservoir outlet in response to the core pin being moved from the first position.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein

the fill plug seal assembly includes a thin seal that when in an intact state prevents flow from the medicament reservoir to the reservoir outlet; and

the core pin punctures the thin seal when the core pin is moved from the first position.

3. The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the thin seal is mounted on the fill plug.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein a portion of the core pin includes a seal surface that engages the fill plug inner surface to create a seal when the core pin is in the first position, and the core pin seal surface disengages from the fill plug inner surface when the core pin moves from the first position.

5. The apparatus of claim 4 , wherein

the fill plug seal assembly includes a thin seal that when in an intact state prevents flow from the medicament reservoir to the reservoir outlet; and

the core pin punctures the thin seal when the core pin is moved from the first position.

6. The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising:

a removable guard that prevents the core pin from moving from the first position.

7. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein moving the core pin from the first position comprises moving the core pin along an axis of the fill plug lumen.

8. An apparatus, comprising:

a medicament reservoir;

a reservoir outlet;

a fill port;

a fill plug disposed within the fill port, the fill plug having an inner surface defining an inlet lumen in fluid communication with the reservoir and an outlet lumen in fluid communication with the reservoir outlet; and

a core pin disposed within the inlet lumen of the fill plug, wherein the core pin is moveable between a first position in which the core pin blocks fluid flow between the inlet lumen and the outlet lumen, and a second position in which the core pin permits fluid flow between the inlet lumen and the outlet lumen through a space between the core pin and the fill plug inner surface.

9. The apparatus of claim 8 , further comprising a thin seal that when in an intact state prevents flow from the medicament reservoir to the reservoir outlet, wherein the core pin punctures the thin seal when the core pin is moved from the first position to the second position.

10. The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the thin seal is mounted on the fill plug.

11. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein a portion of the core pin includes a seal surface that engages the fill plug inner surface to create a seal when the core pin is in the first position, and the core pin seal surface disengages from the fill plug inner surface when the core pin moves from the first position to the second position.

12. The apparatus of claim 8 , further comprising a removable guard that prevents the core pin from moving from the first position.

13. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein moving the core pin between the first position and the second position comprises moving the core pin along an axis of the inlet lumen.

14. An apparatus, comprising:

a reservoir;

an outlet;

a fill plug disposed between the reservoir and the outlet, the fill plug defining a first lumen in fluid communication with the reservoir and a second lumen in fluid communication with the outlet, the first lumen and the second lumen being in fluid communication with one another; and

a core pin disposed within the fill plug and moveable between a first position and a second position, wherein in the first position the core pin prevents fluid flow between the first lumen and the second lumen, and wherein in the second position the core pin permits fluid flow around an outer surface of the core pin and between the first lumen and the second lumen.

15. The apparatus of claim 14 , further comprising a thin seal that when in an intact state prevents flow from the reservoir to the outlet, and wherein the core pin punctures the thin seal when the core pin is moved to the second position.

16. The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the thin seal is mounted on the fill plug.

17. The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein a portion the core pin includes a seal surface that engages a fill plug inner surface to create a seal when the core pin is in the first position, and the core pin seal surface disengages from the fill plug inner surface when the core pin moves from the first position to the second position.

18. The apparatus of claim 14 , further comprising a removable guard that prevents the core pin from moving from the first position.

19. The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein moving the core pin between the first position and the second position comprises moving the core pin along an axis of the first lumen.

20. The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein the core pin is coupled to a depressible button that, when pushed, moves the core pin from the first position to the second position.
