Abstract

There is provided herein, an electronic circuit board assembly for a tip section of a multiple viewing elements endoscope, the assembly including a base board configured to carry a first metal frame to support a front looking viewing element and a second metal frame to support a side looking viewing element; and a flexible illumination circuit board comprising a front foldable panel configured to carry three sets of front illuminators for essentially illuminating the field of view (FOV) of the front looking viewing element, and a side foldable panel configured to carry a set of side illuminators for essentially illuminating the field of view (FOV) of the side looking viewing element.

Claims (41)

1. An electronic circuit board assembly for a multi-viewing elements endoscope, the assembly comprising:

a first base circuit board;

a first frame configured to receive a front image sensor including a second circuit board, wherein the first frame is positioned at one end of the first base circuit board; and

a second frame configured to receive a side image sensor including a third circuit board, wherein said second frame is positioned adjacent to said first frame;

wherein the third circuit board and the second circuit board are each folded into a “U” shape.

2. The electronic circuit board assembly of claim 1 , further comprising:

a first lens assembly coupled to the first frame; and

a second lens assembly coupled to the second frame.

3. The electronic circuit board assembly of claim 1 , further comprising:

a first illuminator circuit board comprising a first panel and a first illuminator, wherein the first illuminator circuit board is mounted on the first base circuit board within at least one first groove of the first base circuit board; and

a second illuminator circuit board comprising a second panel and a second illuminator, wherein the second illuminator circuit board is mounted on the first base circuit board within at least one second groove of the first base circuit board; wherein the first illuminator faces a direction transverse to the second illuminator.

4. The electronic circuit board assembly of claim 1 , wherein each of the front image sensor and the side image sensor includes a piece of glass.

5. The electronic circuit board assembly of claim 1 , wherein the second circuit board includes a first plurality of connector pins and a second plurality of connector pins, wherein the first plurality of connector pins are at an opposite end of the second circuit board from the second plurality of connector pins; and

wherein the third circuit board includes a third plurality of connector pins and a fourth plurality of connector pins, wherein the third plurality of connector pins are at an opposite end of the third circuit board from the fourth plurality of connector pins.

6. The electronic circuit board assembly of claim 5 , wherein the first plurality of connector pins, the second plurality of connector pins, the third plurality of connector pins, and the fourth plurality of connector pins are substantially parallel to the first base circuit board.

7. The electronic circuit board assembly of claim 1 , further comprising:

a fourth base circuit board positioned on an opposite side of the first frame and the second frame from the first base circuit board.

8. The electronic circuit board assembly of claim 7 , further comprising:

a metal supporting frame positioned between the first base circuit board and the fourth base circuit board and configured to act as a heat sink.

9. The electronic circuit board assembly of claim 7 , wherein the front image sensor and the side image sensor are soldered to the first base circuit board and the fourth base circuit board.

10. The electronic circuit board assembly of claim 1 , wherein the front image sensor and the side image sensor each includes one of a charge coupled device (CCD) and a complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) image sensor.

11. The electronic circuit board assembly of claim 1 , wherein the first circuit board and the second circuit board are coupled to the first base circuit board.

12. The electronic circuit board assembly of claim 1 , wherein the first frame incudes grooves for supporting a first illuminator; and wherein the second frame includes grooves for supporting a second illuminator.

13. An electronic circuit board assembly for a multi-viewing elements endoscope, the assembly comprising:

a first base circuit board;

a second base circuit board;

a front image sensor including a third circuit board, wherein the third circuit board is coupled to the first base circuit board and the second base circuit board; and

a side image sensor including a fourth circuit board, wherein the fourth circuit board is coupled to the first base circuit board and the second base circuit board.

14. The electronic circuit board assembly of claim 13 , wherein each of the first base circuit board and the second base circuit board includes a plurality of holes and/or grooves; and the electronic circuit board assembly further comprising:

a plurality of illuminator circuit boards, wherein each illuminator circuit board is positioned within at least one hole and/or groove of the first base circuit board and at least one hole and/or groove of the second base circuit board.

15. The electronic circuit board assembly of claim 13 , further comprising:

a metal supporting frame positioned between the first base circuit board and the second base circuit board.

16. The electronic circuit board assembly of claim 13 , wherein the side image sensor is a first side image sensor, and further comprising:

a second side image sensor including a fifth circuit board, wherein the fifth circuit board is coupled to the first base circuit board and the second base circuit board, and wherein the second side image sensor faces a direction opposite the direction that the first side image sensor faces.

17. An electronic circuit board assembly for a multi-viewing elements endoscope, the assembly comprising:

a first base circuit board;

a first frame configured to receive a front image sensor and a first lens assembly, wherein the first frame is positioned at one end of the first base circuit board; and

a second frame configured to receive a side image sensor and a second lens assembly, wherein said second frame is positioned adjacent to said first frame;

wherein each of the first lens assembly and the second lens assembly extends between two illuminators.

18. The electronic circuit board assembly of claim 17 , further comprising a second base circuit board, wherein each of the first frame, the first lens assembly, the second frame, and the second lens assembly is positioned between the first base circuit board and the second base circuit board.
