Abstract

A contactless thermometer for an in-wall power adapter is described. The contactless thermometer may comprise a first contact element of a plurality of contact elements configured to receive a power signal from the in-wall power adapter; a transformer coupled to the first contact element, wherein the transformer converts the power signal from a first voltage to a second voltage; a transmitter adapted to transmit a signal from the contactless thermometer; a receiver adapted to receive a reflected signal based upon the transmitted signal; and a control circuit coupled to the receiver, wherein the control circuit determines a temperature based upon the reflected signal.

Claims (41)

1. A contactless thermometer adapted to be coupled to an in-wall power adapter, the contactless thermometer comprising:

a first contact element of a plurality of contact elements configured to receive a power signal from the in-wall power adapter;

a second contact element of the plurality of contact elements, wherein the second contact element is adapted to receive a second power signal;

a third contact element of the plurality of contact elements, wherein the third contact element is adapted to provide power to the in-wall power adapter;

a transformer coupled to the first contact element, wherein the transformer converts the power signal from a first voltage to a second voltage;

a transmitter adapted to transmit a signal from the contactless thermometer;

a receiver adapted to receive a reflected signal based upon the transmitted signal; and

a control circuit coupled to the receiver, wherein the control circuit determines a temperature of a human body based upon the reflected signal.

2. The contactless thermometer of claim 1 , further comprising a user interface element coupled to the control circuit, wherein the user interface element generates a feedback signal based upon the determined temperature.

3. The contactless thermometer of claim 2 , wherein the user interface element comprises a display for displaying a pass or fail indication associated with the determined temperature.

4. The contactless thermometer of claim 2 , wherein the user interface element comprises an actuator coupled to the control circuit, wherein the actuator controls a type of feedback signal generated based upon the determined temperature.

5. The contactless thermometer of claim 2 , wherein the user interface element comprises a speaker for providing a pass or fail indication associated with the determined temperature.

6. The contactless thermometer of claim 1 , further comprising the in-wall power adapter, wherein the contactless thermometer is detachably coupled to the in-wall power adapter.

7. The contactless thermometer of claim 6 , wherein the in-wall power adapter comprises a switch, wherein the power is provided to the in-wall power adapter by way of the switch and the third contact element.

8. An in-wall power adapter having a contactless thermometer, the in-wall power adapter comprising:

a first contact element of a plurality of contact elements configured to receive a power signal;

a second contact element of the plurality of contact elements configured to provide power to a load;

a switch coupled between the first contact element and the second contact element, wherein the switch controls the application of the power to the load by way of the second contact;

a transformer coupled to the first contact element, wherein the transformer converts the power signal from a first voltage to a second voltage;

a contactless thermometer comprising a transmitter adapted to transmit a signal and a receiver adapted to receive a reflected signal based upon the transmitted signal; and

a control circuit coupled to the receiver, wherein the control circuit determines a temperature of a human body based upon the reflected signal.

9. The in-wall power adapter of claim 8 , further comprising a user interface element coupled to the control circuit, wherein the user interface element generates a feedback signal based upon the determined temperature.

10. The in-wall power adapter of claim 9 , wherein the user interface element comprises a display for displaying a pass or fail indication associated with the determined temperature.

11. The in-wall power adapter of claim 9 , wherein the user interface element comprises an actuator coupled to the control circuit, wherein the actuator controls a type of feedback signal generated based upon the determined temperature.

12. The in-wall power adapter of claim 9 , wherein the user interface element comprises a speaker for providing a pass or fail indication associated with the determined temperature.

13. The in-wall power adapter of claim 8 , wherein the contactless thermometer is detachable.

14. A method of implementing a contactless thermometer with an in-wall power adapter, the method comprising:

coupling the contactless thermometer to the in-wall power adapter;

configuring a first contact element of a plurality of contact elements of the contactless thermometer to receive a power signal from the in-wall power adapter;

configuring a second contact element of the plurality of contact elements to receive a second power signal;

coupling a third contact element of the plurality of contact elements to provide power to the in-wall power adapter;

providing a transformer in the contactless thermometer to convert the power signal from a first voltage to a second voltage;

configuring a transmitter to transmit a signal from the contactless thermometer;

configuring a receiver, of the contactless thermometer, to receive a reflected signal based upon the transmitted signal; and

determining a temperature of a human body based upon the reflected signal.

15. The method of claim 14 , further comprising providing a user interface element to generate a feedback signal based upon the determined temperature.

16. The method of claim 15 , wherein the user interface element comprises a display for displaying a pass or fail indication associated with the determined temperature.

17. The method of claim 15 , wherein the user interface element comprises an actuator coupled to a control circuit, wherein the actuator controls a type of feedback signal generated based upon the determined temperature.

18. The method of claim 15 , wherein the user interface element comprises a speaker for providing a pass or fail indication associated with the determined temperature.

19. The method of claim 14 , further comprising providing a camera to identify a user of the contactless thermometer.

20. The method of claim 14 , wherein the contactless thermometer is detachably coupled to the in-wall power adapter.
