Abstract

A structured tissue belt assembly including a supporting layer, a non-woven web contacting layer, and one or more laser welds that attach the bottom surface of the web contacting layer to the top surface of the supporting layer. The structured tissue belt assembly allows for air flow in x, y and z directions. In exemplary embodiments, the structured tissue belt assembly has an embedment distance between the supporting layer and the web contacting layer of 0.05 mm to 0.60 mm and a peel force between the web contacting layer and the supporting layer of at least 650 gf/inch.

Claims (12)

1. A structured tissue belt assembly, comprising:

a woven supporting layer comprising a top surface and a bottom surface, the supporting layer being formed of one or more layers of warp yarns interwoven with weft yarns in a repeating pattern with crossover points between the warp yarns and the weft yarns;

a non-woven web-contacting layer comprising extruded monofilaments spaced apart in approximately a machine direction, the web-contacting layer comprising a bottom surface; and

one or more laser-formed embedments that attach the bottom surface of the web-contacting layer to the top surface of the supporting layer without fusion between the web-contacting layer and the supporting layer, with all cross over points between the warp yarns and the weft yarns being devoid of laser-formed embedments;

the supporting layer comprising laser energy absorbent material.

2. The structured tissue belt assembly according to claim 1 , wherein the supporting layer is a single layer fabric comprised of a 5-shed design with a 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 warp pick sequence.

3. The structured tissue belt assembly according to claim 1 , wherein the woven supporting layer is comprised of a double layer fabric having first and second cross-direction monofilament layers comprised of a first layer 5-shed design with a 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 warp pick sequence, and monofilaments of the second cross-direction monofilament layer have a larger circumference than monofilaments of the first cross-direction monofilament layer.

4. A structured tissue belt assembly comprising:

a supporting layer comprising a top surface and a bottom surface, the supporting layer being formed of one or more layers of warp monofilaments interwoven with one or more layers of weft monofilaments in a repeating pattern with crossover points between the warp monofilaments and the weft monofilaments, at least one of: a) at least some of the warp monofilaments; or b) at least some of the weft monofilaments, comprising laser energy absorbent material; and

a non-woven web contacting layer of approximately machine direction oriented monofilaments, the web contacting layer comprising a bottom surface;

one or more first laser-formed embedments that attach the bottom surface of the web contacting layer to the top surface of the supporting layer, without fusion between the web-contacting layer and the supporting layer, at points where the web contacting layer contacts the at least one of: a) the at least some of the warp monofilaments; or b) the at least some of the weft monofilaments that comprise laser energy absorbent material, with all cross over points between the warp monofilaments and the weft monofilaments being devoid of laser welds.

5. The structured tissue belt assembly of claim 4 , wherein the monofilaments of the web contacting layer are larger than at least one of the warp or weft filaments of the supporting layer.
