Abstract

A method for generating an electro-anatomical map to represent an underlying metric associated with heart tissue it is provided. The method comprises receiving, by a mapping system, point cloud data collected for the underlying metric at various locations within the heart; generating, by the mapping system, a surface mesh to represent the geometry of a heart, said surface mesh comprising a plurality of mesh points arranged as a series of interconnected triangles, wherein each mesh point lies on the surface of the heart, and is generated based on the point cloud data; rendering the surface mesh in a viewer application, comprising coloring the mesh points in the surface mesh based on values of the underlying metric associated with each of the mesh points and a color scale; and allowing a user to dynamically adjust the color scale based on a histogram.

Claims (27)

1. A method for generating an electro-anatomical map to represent an underlying metric associated with heart tissue, comprising:

receiving, by a mapping system, point cloud data collected for the underlying metric at various locations within the heart;

generating, by the mapping system, a surface mesh to represent the geometry of a heart, said surface mesh comprising a plurality of mesh points arranged as a series of interconnected triangles, wherein each mesh point lies on the surface of the heart, and is generated based on the point cloud data;

rendering the surface mesh in a viewer application, comprising coloring the mesh points in the surface mesh based on values of the underlying metric associated with each of the mesh points and a color scale; and

allowing a user to dynamically adjust the color scale based on a histogram; wherein said histogram shows for each of value of the underlying metric, the number of data points in the point cloud data is associated with said value.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising displaying the histogram on a display screen.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the histogram depicts values for the underlying metric on an X-axis and a count representing a number of points in the point data cloud associated with each value on a Y-axis.

4. The method of claim 2 , wherein allowing the user to dynamically adjust the color scale based on the histogram comprises providing a control slidably position along the Y-axis to associate and upper limit and a lower limit in the underlying metric.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein allowing the user to dynamically adjust the color scale further comprises mapping the colors at the extremities of the color scale to the upper and lower limits, respectively.

6. A system for generating an electro-anatomical map to represent an underlying metric associated with heart tissue, comprising:

a processor configured to combine location data generated by a geometry system, an electrical measurement data generated by a measurement system to define point cloud data;

a mapping system configured to generate a surface mesh to represent the geometry of a heart, said surface mesh comprising a plurality of mesh points arranged as a series of interconnected triangles, wherein each mesh point lies on the surface of the heart, and is generated based on the point cloud data;

a visualization engine comprising a mapped generator configured to rendering the surface mesh in a viewer application, comprising coloring the mesh points in the surface mesh based on values of the underlying metric associated with each of the mesh points and a color scale; and

control mechanism to allow a user to dynamically adjust the color scale based on a histogram: wherein said histogram shows for each of value of the underlying metric, the number of data points in the point cloud data is associated with said value.

7. The system of claim 6 , display is configured to display the histogram.

8. The system of claim 7 , wherein the histogram depicts values for the underlying metric on an X-axis and a count representing a number of points in the point data cloud associated with each value on a Y-axis.

9. The system of claim 7 , wherein the control mechanism allows the user to dynamically adjust the color scale based on the histogram by providing a control slidably position along the Y-axis to associate and upper limit and a lower limit in the underlying metric.

10. The system of claim 9 , wherein the visualization engine maps the colors at the extremities of the color scale to the upper and lower limits, respectively.

11. A non-transitory computer readable storage medium, having stored thereon, a set of computed-executable instructions that causes a computer to perform a method for generating an electro-anatomical map to represent an underlying metric associated with heart tissue, comprising:

receiving, by a mapping system, point cloud data collected for the underlying metric at various locations within the heart;

generating, by the mapping system, a surface mesh to represent the geometry of a heart, said surface mesh comprising a plurality of mesh points arranged as a series of interconnected triangles, wherein each mesh point lies on the surface of the heart, and is generated based on the point cloud data;

rendering the surface mesh in a viewer application, comprising coloring the mesh points in the surface mesh based on values of the underlying metric associated with each of the mesh points and a color scale; and

allowing a user to dynamically adjust the color scale based on a histogram; wherein said histogram shows for each of value of the underlying metric, the number of data points in the point cloud data is associated with said value.

12. The computer readable storage medium of claim 11 , further comprising displaying the histogram on a display screen.

13. The computer readable storage medium of claim 12 , wherein the histogram depicts values for the underlying metric on an X-axis and a count representing a number of points in the point data cloud associated with each value on a Y-axis.

14. The computer readable storage medium of claim 12 , wherein allowing the user to dynamically adjust the color scale based on the histogram comprises providing a control slidably position along the Y-axis to associate and upper limit and a lower limit in the underlying metric.

15. The computer readable storage medium of claim 14 , wherein allowing the user to dynamically adjust the color scale further comprises mapping the colors at the extremities of the color scale to the upper and lower limits, respectively.
