Abstract

Systems and methods for generating media program keywords based on a video-hosting website are disclosed herein. Control circuitry identifies, on the video-hosting website, video content items that include at least a portion of a media program. The media program has a media program identifier and the video content items have respective titles, each including one or more terms. The control circuitry identifies a term included in more than one of the titles and identifies a group of the video content items that have the term included in their title. Based on the video-hosting website, the control circuitry determines a cumulative number of rankings of the video content items within the group and generates a relevance score for the term based on the cumulative number of rankings. The control circuitry stores the term and the relevance score in a keyword database in association with the media program identifier.

Claims (40)

1. A method comprising:

selecting, by control circuitry, a term from a title of a video content item, wherein at least a portion of the video content item is hosted on a video-hosting website;

determining, by the control circuitry, if the selected term is associated with a media program, wherein the determining comprises:

analyzing a plurality of video content items hosted on the video-hosting website; and

determining if a threshold number of the plurality of video content items identify the selected term as associated with the media program; and

in response to determining that the selected term is associated with the media program:

storing, by the control circuitry, the selected term in a keyword database associated with the media program; and

generating a relevance score for the selected term, wherein the relevance score correlates to the threshold number of the plurality of video content items identifying the selected term as associated with the media program.

The method of claim 1 , wherein, in response to determining that the selected term is not associated with the media program, wherein in such determination is made when a lesser number than the threshold number of the plurality of video content items identify the selected term as associated with the media program, storing the selected term in a database as unassociated with the media program.

The method of claim 1 , wherein, in response to determining that the selected term is not associated with the media program, selecting, by control circuitry, a second term from the title of the video content item hosted on a video-hosting website to determine if the second term is associated with the media program.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein, in response to determining that the selected term is not associated with the media program, excluding the selected term from being associated with the media program in the keyword database.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein, the control circuitry is configured to analyze each term from the title of a video content item to determine if the term is associated with the media program.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein, the control circuitry is configured to determine a cumulative number of rankings of the plurality of video content items hosted on the video-hosting website.

The method of claim 6 , wherein, the cumulative ranking includes a positive cumulative ranking, which is associated with a like selection from a user that has viewed the video content item, and a negative cumulative ranking, which is associated with a dislike selection from the user that has viewed the video content item.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the like selection is scored positively and the dislike selection is scored negatively by the control circuitry in generating a relevance score for the selected term.

9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving, by the control circuitry, a query including the selected term;

in response to receiving the query, retrieving, from the keyword database, a media program identifier and a relevance score stored in association with the selected term; and

generating a reply to the query, the reply including the media program identifier in a position based on the relevance score.

10. A system for generating media program keywords based on a video-hosting website, comprising:

communications circuitry configured to communicate with a video-hosting website that hosts a plurality of video content items; and

control circuitry configured to:

select a term from a title of a video content item from the plurality of video content items, wherein at least a portion of the video content item is hosted on the video-hosting website;

determine if the selected term is associated with a media program, wherein the determining comprises:

analyzing a plurality of video content items hosted on the video-hosting website; and

determining if a threshold number of the plurality of video content items identify the selected term as associated with the media program; and

in response to determining that the selected term is associated with the media program:

store the selected term in a keyword database as associated with the media program; and

generate a relevance score for the selected term, wherein the relevance score correlates to the threshold number of the plurality of video content items identifying the selected term as associated with the media program.

The system of claim 10 , wherein, in response to determining that the selected term is not associated with the media program, wherein in such determination is made when a lesser number than the threshold number of the plurality of video content items identify the selected term as associated with the media program, storing the selected term in a database as unassociated with the media program.

12. The system of claim 10 , wherein, in response to determining that the selected term is not associated with the media program, selecting, by control circuitry, a second term from the title of the video content item hosted on a video-hosting website to determine if the second term is associated with the media program.

13. The system of claim 10 , wherein, in response to determining that the selected term is not associated with the media program, excluding the selected term from being associated with the media program in the keyword database.

14. The system of claim 10 , wherein, the control circuitry is configured to analyze each term from the title of a video content item to determine if the term is associated with the media program.

15. The system of claim 10 , wherein, the control circuitry is configured to determine a cumulative number of rankings of the plurality of video content items hosted on the video-hosting website.

16. The system of claim 15 , wherein, the cumulative ranking includes a positive cumulative ranking, which is associated with a like selection from a user that has viewed the video content item and a negative cumulative ranking, which is associated with a dislike selection from the user that has viewed the video content item.

17. The system of claim 16 , wherein the like selection is scored positively and the dislike selection is scored negatively by the control circuitry in generating a relevance score for the selected term.

18. The system of claim 10 , further comprising:

receiving, by the control circuitry, a query including the selected term;

in response to receiving the query, retrieving, from the keyword database, a media program identifier and a relevance score stored in association with the selected term; and

generating a reply to the query, the reply including the media program identifier in a position based on the relevance score.
