Abstract

The network registrations of Internet-of-Things and like devices may be managed through the exchange of subscriber identity module and public land mobile network information. An exposure function may receive information regarding a device that needs cellular on-boarding, and pass the information to an operator subscription manager, and monitor a registration attempt of the device. The exposure function may process a request to allow transfer of ownership of a device, and such a request may include an expiration time, and an action to be taken upon expiry. The exposure function may also dis-enroll (off-board) devices. A central Equipment Identity Register (EIR) may store information relating to the home networks of devices, along with eSIM operating profiles of the device. An operator subscription manager may retrieve device information from a manufacturer server, create an eSIM operating profile, assign an IMSI, and exchange such information with entities such as user equipment and EIR.

Claims (8)

1. A user equipment (UE), comprising a processor, a memory, and communication circuitry, the UE being connected to a network via its communication circuitry, the UE further comprising computer-executable instructions stored in the memory of the UE which, when executed by the processor of the UE, cause the UE to perform operations comprising:

receiving, from a first Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN), a first indication signifying that the first PLMN supports PLMN retargeting at a subscriber registration process, the first indication pertaining to one or more Internet-of Things (IoT) and/or enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB) services available on a second PLMN that are not available on the first PLMN;

sending, to the first PLMN and in response to the first indication, a first registration request to initiate the subscriber registration process, wherein the first registration request comprises a second indication signifying that public land mobile network retargeting is requested;

receiving, from the first PLMN and in response to the first registration request, a registration reject message comprising an identification of the second PLMN and an updated subscription profile including an updated Subscriber Permanent Identity (SUPI) value;

sending a second registration request to the second PLMN, wherein the second registration request comprises the updated SUPI value;

receiving, from the second PLMN, a registration accept message comprising a cellular operating profile; and

using, via the registration to the second PLMN, the one or more Internet-of Things (IoT) and/or enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB) services available on the second PLMN.

2. The UE of claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise searching for a cell that matches the identification of the second PLMN.
