Abstract

A network entity, such as a user equipment (UE), may request that a network provide multicast and broadcast services, e.g., where the request includes entity preferences such as network slice selection information. The network may provide information regarding provision of such services, where the information may include, for example, whether a service will be provided via a user plane or a control plane connection, network slice information, additional connections to be formed, separate encryption for such connections, etc. A Multicast/Broadcast Network Function (MBNF) may be used to establish such connections and manage a broadcast and multicast sessions. The MBNF may, for example, manage groups of entities, check an entity's access privileges for services, communicate with the a Management and Network Orchestration (MANO) system to reserve resources, and send data to entities over a shared control plane connection.

Claims (30)

1. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) comprising a processor and memory, storing instructions which, when executed by the processor, cause the WTRU to:

send, to a network, a first message indicating a request to join a multicast group, wherein the message comprises an identifier associated with the multicast group and information associated with a protocol data unit (PDU) session to be used to receive data associated with the multicast group;

receive, from the network, a second message indicating acceptance of the request to join the multicast group; and

receive, via the PDU session, data associated with the multicast group.

2. The WTRU of claim 1 , wherein the information associated with the PDU session comprises at least one of a data network name (DNN) or a single-network slice selection assistance information (S-NSSAI).

3. The WTRU of claim 1 , wherein the first message comprises a non-access stratum (NAS) message.

4. The WTRU of claim 1 , wherein the first message comprises a request to establish the PDU session.

5. The WTRU of claim 1 , wherein the identifier associated with the multicast group comprises a temporary mobile group identity (TMGI).

6. The WTRU of claim 1 , wherein the second message comprises one or more security keys associated with receiving data of the multicast group.

7. The WTRU of claim 1 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the processor, further cause the WTRU to receive configuration information comprising the identifier associated with the multicast group.

8. The WTRU of claim 1 , wherein the first message comprises a request to modify the PDU session.

9. The WTRU of claim 1 , wherein the second message comprises information indicative of at least one of a service area associated with the multicast group or a schedule associated with the multicast group, and wherein the data associated with the multicast group is received by the WTRU based on the information indicative of the service area or the schedule.

10. The WTRU of claim 9 , wherein the schedule associated with the multicast group comprises an indication of a start time associated with transmission of data associated with the multicast group.

11. The WTRU of claim 1 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the processor, further cause the WTRU to receive, from the network, a paging message indicating that data associated with the multicast group is available via the PDU session.

12. The WTRU of claim 11 , wherein the paging message triggers the WTRU to execute a procedure with a network node to set up network resources that can be used to receive the data.

13. A method comprising:

sending, by a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) and to a network, a first message indicating a request to join a multicast group, wherein the message comprises an identifier associated with the multicast group and information associated with a protocol data unit (PDU) session to be used to receive data associated with the multicast group;

receiving, by the WTRU and from the network, a second message indicating acceptance of the request to join the multicast group; and

receiving, by the WTRU via the PDU session, data associated with the multicast group.

14. The method of claim 13 , wherein the information associated with the PDU session comprises at least one of a data network name (DNN) or a single-network slice selection assistance information (S-NSSAI).

15. The method of claim 13 , wherein the first message comprises a non-access stratum (NAS) message.

16. The method of claim 13 , wherein the first message comprises a request to establish the PDU session.

17. The method of claim 13 , wherein the identifier associated with the multicast group comprises a temporary mobile group identity (TMGI).

18. The method of claim 13 , wherein the second message comprises one or more security keys associated with receiving data of the multicast group.

19. The method of claim 13 , further comprising receiving, by the WTRU, configuration information comprising the identifier associated with the multicast group.

20. The method of claim 13 , wherein the first message comprises a request to modify the PDU session.

21. The method of claim 13 , wherein the second message comprises information indicative of at least one of a service area associated with the multicast group or a schedule associated with the multicast group, and wherein the data associated with the multicast group is received by the WTRU based on the information indicative of the service area or the schedule.

22. The method of claim 21 , wherein the schedule associated with the multicast group comprises an indication of a start time associated with transmission of data associated with the multicast group.

23. The method of claim 13 , further comprising receiving, by the WTRU and from the network, a paging message indicating that data associated with the multicast group is available via the PDU session.

24. The method of claim 23 , wherein the paging message triggers the WTRU to execute a procedure with a network node to set up network resources that can be used to receive the data.
