Abstract

A method of designing a fire detection system comprising: determining a probability of a fire in a room; determining a number of fire detection devices for a fire detection system within the room in response to the probability of the fire in the room; determining a number of fire suppression devices for the fire detection system within the room in response to the probability of a fire in the room; and determining a location of each of the fire detection devices within the room and a location of the fire suppression devices within the room.

Claims (29)

1. A fire detection system comprising:

one or more fire detection devices; and

one or more fire suppression devices;

wherein the fire detection system is designed according to a method comprising:

determining a probability of a fire in a room;

determining a number of fire detection devices for the fire detection system within the room in response to the probability of the fire in the room;

determining a number of fire suppression devices for the fire detection system within the room in response to the probability of a fire in the room;

determining a location of each of the fire detection devices within the room and a location of the fire suppression devices within the room;

wherein determining the probability of a fire in the room further comprises:

determining a geometry of the room in response to a floor plan;

determining whether one or more articles are located within the room and a flammability of each of the one or more articles;

determining whether one or more hazards are located within the room; and

determining the probability of a fire in the room in response to at least the one or more articles located within the room, the flammability of each of the one or more articles, and the one or more hazards located within the room;

determining whether a constraint is violated by the location of each of the fire detection devices within the room and a location of the fire suppression devices within the room; and

activating an alert when the constraint is violated by the location of each of the fire detection devices within the room and the location of the fire suppression devices within the room.

2. The fire detection system of claim 1 , the method further comprising:

determining a location of evacuation points within the room; and

adjusting a location of at least one of the fire detection devices or a location of at least one of the fire suppression devices in response to the evacuation points within the room.

3. The fire detection system of claim 1 , further comprising:

one or more evacuation points within the room;

one or more fire escape devices;

the method further comprising:

determining a location of the evacuation points within the room;

determining a type of each of the evacuation points within the room;

determining a number and a type of the fire escape devices for the fire detection system within the room in response to at least one of the probability of a fire in the room, the location of each evacuation point within the room, and the type of the evacuation points within the room; and

determining a location of each of the fire escape devices for the fire detection system within the room in response to at least one of the probability of a fire in the room, the location of each evacuation point within the room, and the type of the evacuation points within the room.

4. The fire detection system of claim 3 , wherein the location of each of the evacuation points is determined relative to a center of the room.

5. The fire detection system of claim 1 , the method further comprising:

generating a map that displays the location of each of the fire detection devices and the location of each of the fire suppression devices.
