Abstract

Floor panel, with a horizontally and vertically active locking system allowing that two of such floor panels can be connected to each other at said sides by providing one of these floor panels, by means of a downward movement, in the other floor panel; wherein the vertically active locking system comprises a locking element in the form of an insert; wherein this locking element comprises at least a pivotable lock-up body; characterized in that the pivotable lock-up body comprises a support portion which is rotatable against a support surface pertaining to the floor panel concerned, and more particularly in a seat.

Claims (52)

1. A floor panel, comprising a core and a top layer of wood functioning as a visible decorative layer, the core comprising a first material and a different second material,

wherein the floor panel is rectangular and oblong and comprises a pair of opposite long sides and a pair of opposite short sides;

wherein the floor panel comprises, at the pair of opposite long sides, coupling parts, which, in a coupled condition, offer a horizontal as well as a vertical locking and which allow a mutual coupling by a pivoting movement of one of such floor panel relative to another of such floor panel to be coupled;

wherein the floor panel comprises, at the pair of opposite short sides, coupling parts;

wherein the coupling parts at the opposite short sides form a horizontally active locking system and a vertically active locking system;

wherein the horizontally active locking system comprises a male part and a female part, which allow that two of such floor panels can be connected to each other at the aforementioned short sides by providing the one of such floor panel with the male part, by a downward movement obtained as a result of said pivoting movement, in the female part of the another of such floor panel;

wherein the male part is formed by a downward-directed extremity of a hook-shaped part, whereas the female part comprises a first seat formed by an upward-directed hook-shaped part;

wherein the core comprises, at least at one of the short sides, a strip made of the first material;

wherein at least the male or female part is machined from the first material of the strip;

wherein the vertically active locking system comprises a locking element provided in the form of an insert;

wherein the locking element comprises an attachment portion, a support portion and a pivotable lock-up body,

wherein the pivotable lock-up body comprises a locking portion,

wherein the attachment portion is inserted in the male part,

wherein the support portion extends downwardly into or onto a second seat defined by a surface of the hook-shaped part of the male part;

wherein the pivotable lock-up body extends generally vertically from the support portion,

wherein the locking portion in the coupled condition contacts a surface of the female part;

wherein the locking element has a hinge part including a hinge material and connecting the pivotable lock-up body and the attachment portion, said hinge material being more flexible and bendable than a lock-up body material from which the pivotable lock-up body is formed outside of the hinge material; the hinge material and lock-up body material being different from one another.

2. The floor panel of claim 1 , wherein the locking portion in the coupled condition extends tangentially to the surface of the female part the locking portion is in contact with.

3. The floor panel of claim 1 , wherein the locking element comprises a press-on portion extending inclinedly away from the support portion into the male part.

4. The floor panel of claim 1 , wherein the insert extends a greater width at a locking portion compared to at a support portion.

5. The floor panel of claim 1 , wherein the first material is MDF or HDF.

6. The floor panel of claim 1 , wherein the second material is wood.

7. The floor panel of claim 1 , wherein the core comprises at each short side a strip made of the first material; and wherein both the male and female part are machined from the first material of the respective strips.

8. The floor panel of claim 1 , wherein the core is substantially composed of strips, comprising said strip made of the first material and strips made of the second material, which is wood.

9. The floor panel of claim 1 , wherein the floor panel comprises a backing layer of wood.

10. The floor panel of claim 1 , wherein the floor panel is of an engineered wood type.

11. The floor panel of claim 1 , wherein the insert is provided in a recess formed in the strip made of the first material.

12. The floor panel of claim 1 , wherein the insert is made of synthetic material.

13. The floor panel of claim 1 , wherein the first material is located at an extremity of the floor panel, and the second material is located interiorly adjacent to the first material; and wherein the first material and the second material form discrete sections of the core.

14. The floor panel of claim 3 , wherein the support portion defines and/or extends below a junction between the press-on portion and the locking portion.

15. The floor panel of claim 3 , wherein the support portion defines a junction between the locking portion and a press-on portion that forms a v-shape.

16. The floor panel of claim 3 , wherein the insert is configured to define a gap between the pivotable lock-up body and the press-on portion of the insert.

17. The floor panel of claim 1 , wherein the support portion extends above a bottom surface of the hook-shaped part.

18. A floor panel, comprising a core and a top layer of wood functioning as a visible decorative layer, the core comprising a first material and a different second material,

wherein the floor panel is rectangular and oblong and comprises a pair of opposite long sides and a pair of opposite short sides;

wherein the floor panel comprises, at the pair of opposite long sides, coupling parts, which, in a coupled condition, offer a horizontal as well as a vertical locking and which allow a mutual coupling by a pivoting movement of one of such floor panel relative to another of such floor panel to be coupled;

wherein the floor panel comprises, at the pair of opposite short sides, coupling parts;

wherein the coupling parts at the opposite short sides form a horizontally active locking system and a vertically active locking system;

wherein the horizontally active locking system comprises a male part and a female part, which allow that two of such floor panels can be connected to each other at the aforementioned short sides by providing the one of such floor panel with the male part, by a downward movement obtained as a result of said pivoting movement, in the female part of the another of such floor panel;

wherein the male part is formed by a downward-directed extremity of a hook-shaped part, whereas the female part comprises a first seat formed by an upward-directed hook-shaped part;

wherein the vertically active locking system comprises a locking element provided in the form of an insert in one of the short sides;

wherein the core comprises, at least at one of the short sides, a strip made of the first material;

wherein at least the male or female part is machined from the first material of the strip;

wherein the first material is MDF or HDF;

wherein the core comprises at each short side a strip made of the first material; and wherein both the male and female part are machined from the first material of the respective strips;

wherein the core is substantially composed of strips, comprising said strip made of the first material and strips made of the second material, which is wood;

wherein the locking element comprises an attachment portion, a support portion and a pivotable lock-up body;

wherein the locking element has a hinge part including a hinge material and connecting the pivotable lock-up body and the attachment portion, said hinge material being more flexible and bendable than a lock-up body material from which the pivotable lock-up body is formed outside of the hinge material; the hinge material and lock-up body material being different from one another.

19. The floor panel of claim 18 ,

wherein the attachment portion is provided in the male part,
