Abstract

A cabinet that has manually reconfigurable shelves, that can automatically detect the configuration of compartments in a shelf, and that can automatically detect if a user is accessing or restocking the right compartment is contemplated. The shelf can be reconfigured using one or more dividers to divide the shelf into two or more compartments. The compartments can have different sizes and store different items. The compartments can be physically reconfigured by the user and the cabinet can automatically detect the specifics of the reconfiguration and adjust compartment size and availability. A surface of the shelf includes a plurality of visual markers. The cabinet has cameras mounted to it and uses visual markers to determine if a compartment contains an item and other information.

Claims (46)

1. A medical cabinet that stores packaged medicine or other regulated healthcare related devices for stocking or dispensing using an optical scanner, comprising:

a storage cavity in the cabinet that is adapted to include a temperature-controlled section,

the temperature-controlled section comprising one or more sliding drawers whereby the temperature is measured and regulated by a cabinet control system;

the one or more drawers comprising:

a volume configured to store a pluratity of items,

a bottom surface alone color

one or more removable and reconfigurable dividers with visual markers comprising a second color wherein the dividers are adapted to divide the volume into a plurality of nests, and

a wall adapted to identify a perimeter of the drawer and enclosing the dividers wherein the wall extends upward from the bottom surface;and

an imaging and spatial determination system including a processor and memory storing computer executable instructions, and a camera, wherein execution of the instructions in the memory causes the processor to:

recognize, when a current drawer is open, and prevent other drawers from opening via automatic locking devices;

record, via the camera, images of the current drawer while it is open;

detect the visual markers by color differentiation of bottom still of the current drawer and the dividers;

determine a current drawer is partially open or fully open by detecting the color differentiation: and

determine content information related to one or more nests of the current drawer from analyzing the images captured while the drawer is open,

wherein the cabinet further comprises a display that is configured with computer of to display activity occurring related to the current drawer in real time.

2. The cabinet of claim 1 , wherein the imaging and spatial determination system is further configured to:

record, via the camera, images of the drawer and determine content information of the drawer by comparing a current image with a previous image; and

compare the current image and the previous image and determine if there is a difference between the images and update content information of the drawer based on the comparison.

3. The cabinet of claim 1 , wherein the imaging and spatial determination system further includes a database storing distance information of the plurality of visual markers and the distance information represents how far the drawer is open.

4. The cabinet of claim 1 , wherein the cabinet is configured to detect the drawer is open by an electrical contact.

5. The cabinet of claim 1 , wherein the wall has a height of 3 inches and the distance between the top surface of the wall and the bottom surface of the drawer is 3 inches.

6. The cabinet of claim 1 , wherein the drawer is configured to store items to be scanned by the optical scanner and the cabinet further comprises another drawer configured to store items from the first drawer scanned by the optical scanner.

7. The cabinet of claim 6 , wherein the cabinet further comprises a user interface and the execution of the instructions in the memory further causes the processor to:

provide, via the user interface, a user with login functionality; and

communicate, via the user interface, to a user an option to select an item stored in the drawer and identify an item from the drawer scanned by the optical scanner as a scanned item.

8. The cabinet of claim 7 , wherein the user interface is configured to communicate with a database stored remotely and provide a user with drawer configuration information.

9. The cabinet of claim 8 , wherein the user interface is configured to instruct the user where to restock items using the display.

10. The cabinet of claim 1 , wherein the temperature controlled section is configured to control a temperature of die temperature controlled section by a user.

11. The cabinet of claim 1 , wherein a temperature is kept between 38° F. and 42° F. in the temperature controled section.

12. The cabinet of claim 1 , wherein one camera is dedicated to a top half of the drawers and another camera is dedicated to a lower half of the drawers, the two cameras facing down toward the drawers.

13. The cabinet of claim 1 , wherein the execution of the instructions in the memory further causes the processor to:

allow a user to open the drawer and lock the other drawers, and as the user moves an item from or to a nest, the cabinet makes a determination of whether the effected nest is empty or contains the item.

14. The cabinet of claim 1 , wherein the execution of the instructions in the memory further causes the processor to:

monitor, via the camera, a user's hand movement;

assess if the movement is directed to a nest the user selected for a transaction; and

notify the user and instruct the user to the selected nest if the movement is not directed to the selected nest.

15. The cabinet of claim 1 , wherein the imaging and spatial determination system is further configured to:

detect an anomaly by assessing, via the camera, if there are items in or missing from

a nest that does not match data stored in a database; and

notify a user and request a user action if the anomaly is detected.

16. The cabinet of claim 1 , wherein the drawer comprises one or more rows of structures configured to receive or engage with the dividers.

17. The cabinet of claim 1 , wherein the bottom surface of the drawer includes perforations or holes.

18. The cabinet of claim 1 , wherein the drawers are initially locked until there is a login by the user.

19. The cabinet of claim 18 , wherein the drawers are unlocked when the user enters the login.

20. The cabinet of claim 1 , further comprising a storage cavity in the cabinet that is configurable for an ambient section.

21. The cabinet of claim 1 , wherein the temperature controlled section is a refrigerated temperature control section.
