Abstract

The various embodiments described herein include methods, devices, and systems for imaging identification information. In one aspect, a video stream of a credential document is obtained via a camera. It is determined whether the video stream of the credential document meets one or more imaging criteria. In accordance with a determination that the imaging criteria are not satisfied, a first indication that the credential document is not ready to be imaged is presented. In accordance with a determination that the imaging criteria are satisfied a second indication that the credential document is ready to be imaged is presented.

Claims (44)

1. A method of acquiring an image of a credential document, comprising:

at an electronic device having one or more processors and memory:

obtaining a video stream of a credential document via a camera;

acquiring an image of a user;

determining whether the video stream of the credential document meets capture criteria, the capture criteria including:

first criteria that are satisfied in accordance with a determination that one or more characteristics of the credential document in the video stream conform with one or more imaging characteristics, and

second criteria that are satisfied based on a comparison of the one or more characteristics of the credential document with respect to a predefined credential type including a match criterion that is satisfied based on a determination that the acquired image matches a photo displayed on the credential document; and

in accordance with a determination that the capture criteria, including the first criteria and the second criteria, are satisfied, automatically capturing an image of the credential document.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first criteria include a surface criterion that is satisfied in accordance with a determination that the video stream includes a complete surface of the credential document.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first criteria include a distance criterion that is satisfied in accordance with a determination that the credential document is within a threshold distance of the camera.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first criteria include a focus criterion that is satisfied in accordance with a determination that the credential document is substantially in focus.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first criteria include a side criterion that is satisfied in accordance with a determination that the one or more characteristics of the credential document in the video stream conform with respective side information of the credential document.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the credential document is one of the group consisting of:

an identification card;

a driver's license;

a passport;

a credit card; and

a debit card.

7. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing one or more programs, the one or more programs comprising instructions, which when executed by an electronic device, cause the electronic device to:

obtain a video stream of a credential document via a camera;

acquire an image of a user;

determine whether the video stream of the credential document meets capture criteria, the capture criteria including:

first criteria that are satisfied in accordance with a determination that one or more characteristics of the credential document in the video stream conform with one or more imaging characteristics, and

second criteria that are satisfied based on a comparison of the one or more characteristics of the credential document with respect to a predefined credential type including a match criterion that is satisfied based on a determination that the acquired image matches a photo displayed on the credential document; and

in accordance with a determination that the capture criteria, including the first criteria and the second criteria, are satisfied, automatically capture an image of the credential document.

8. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 7 , wherein the first criteria include a surface criterion that is satisfied in accordance with a determination that the video stream includes a complete surface of the credential document.

9. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 7 , wherein the first criteria include a distance criterion that is satisfied in accordance with a determination that the credential document is within a threshold distance of the camera.

10. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 7 , wherein the first criteria include a focus criterion that is satisfied in accordance with a determination that the credential document is substantially in focus.

11. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 7 , wherein the first criteria include a side criterion that is satisfied in accordance with a determination that the one or more characteristics of the credential document in the video stream conform with respective side information of the credential document.

12. An electronic device, comprising:

one or more processors; and

memory coupled to the one or more processors, the memory storing one or more programs configured to be executed by the one or more processors, the one or more programs including instructions for:

obtaining a video stream of a credential document via a camera;

acquiring an image of a user;

determining whether the video stream of the credential document meets criteria, the capture criteria including:

first criteria that are satisfied in accordance with a determination that one or more characteristics of the credential document in the video stream conform with one or more imaging characteristics, and

second criteria that are satisfied based on a comparison of the one or more characteristics of the credential document with respect to a predefined credential type including a match criterion that is satisfied based on a determination that the acquired image matches a photo displayed on the credential document; and

in accordance with a determination that the capture criteria, including the first criteria and the second criteria, are satisfied, automatically capturing an image of the credential document.

13. The electronic device of claim 12 , wherein the first criteria include a surface criterion that is satisfied in accordance with a determination that the video stream includes a complete surface of the credential document.

14. The electronic device of claim 12 , wherein the first criteria include a distance criterion that is satisfied in accordance with a determination that the credential document is within a threshold distance of the camera.

15. The electronic device of claim 12 , wherein the first criteria include a focus criterion that is satisfied in accordance with a determination that the credential document is substantially in focus.

16. The electronic device of claim 12 , wherein the first criteria include a side criterion that is satisfied in accordance with a determination that the one or more characteristics of the credential document in the video stream conform with respective side information of the credential document.

17. The method of claim 1 , wherein the second criteria include a layout criterion that is satisfied in accordance with a determination that the one or more characteristics of the credential document match a layout of one or more respective characteristics associated with the predefined credential type.

18. The method of claim 1 , wherein the second criteria include verification criteria that are satisfied in accordance with a determination that the one or more characteristics of the credential document match one or more document type characteristics.
