Mobile device support base including power interfaces
A support base includes a connector hub having a top end, a bottom end spaced apart from the top end, and a chamber wall extending between the top and bottom ends. The chamber wall defines a chamber within the connector hub. A power interface set may be positioned in the chamber. The power interface set is dimensioned such that an annular support gap is formed between the power interface set and the chamber wall. A cover plate may be coupled to the top end of the connector hub.
1. A support base, comprising:
a connector hub having a top end, a bottom end spaced apart from the top end, and a chamber wall extending between the top end and the bottom end and defining a chamber;
a flange radially extending from the top end of the connector hub;
a baffle positioned in a flange groove formed in an upper surface of the flange;
a baffle spring positioned between the baffle and a flange groove wall of the flange, the baffle spring being moveable between an uncompressed state and a compressed state; and
a power interface set positioned in the chamber, wherein a maximum outer diameter of the power interface set is less than an inner diameter of the chamber such that an annular support gap is defined between the power interface set and the chamber wall.
2. The support base of claim 1 , further comprising:
a cover plate coupled to the top end of the connector hub, wherein the cover plate further comprises a cover plate hole axially aligned with the power interface set,
wherein an electrically contactable top end of the power interface set is positioned adjacent to the cover plate hole.
3. The support base of claim 2 , further comprising:
a flange slot formed on an outer edge of the flange,
wherein the cover plate comprises a fastening mechanism, and the fastening mechanism is mechanically secured within the flange slot such that the cover plate is coupled to the flange.
4. The support base of claim 1 , further comprising:
a casing comprising:
a top end;
a bottom end spaced apart from the top end; and
a lumen extending from a top end to a bottom end of the casing,
wherein the power interface set is positioned within the lumen.
5. The support base of claim 4 , wherein the casing further comprises:
a casing groove formed inside the lumen adjacent the bottom end of the casing,
wherein a power interface set flange is positioned in the casing groove.
6. The support base of claim 4 , further comprising:
a tubing collar positioned between the chamber wall and the casing, wherein
an outer diameter of the tubing collar is dimensioned such that the tubing collar fits within the chamber, and
an inner diameter of the tubing collar is greater than an outer diameter of the casing, such that an annular support slot is defined between the tubing collar and the casing.
7. The support base of claim 6 , wherein an inner portion of the baffle overlaps the annular support slot, above the tubing collar.
8. The support base of claim 6 , further comprising:
a casing flange positioned adjacent the bottom end of the casing, wherein the casing flange comprises:
a casing flange slot extending into the casing flange from an upper surface of the casing flange; and
an opening in communication with the lumen of the casing,
wherein the tubing collar includes a fastening mechanism extending downward from a lower end of the tubing collar and the fastening mechanism is dimensionally configured to be received in the casing flange slot.
9. The support base of claim 8 , wherein:
the fastening mechanism is positioned adjacent the lower end of the tubing collar and is mechanically coupled to the casing flange slot.
10. The support base of claim 6 , wherein the tubing collar comprises a light source extending around a top end of the tubing collar.
11. A support base assembly, comprising:
a support base comprising:
a connector hub having a top end, a bottom end spaced apart from the top end, and a chamber wall extending between the top end and the bottom end and defining a chamber;
a flange radially extending from the top end of the connector hub;
a baffle positioned in a flange groove formed in an upper surface of the flange;
a baffle spring positioned between the baffle and a flange groove wall of the flange, the baffle spring being moveable between an uncompressed state and a compressed state;
a cover plate coupled to a top end of the connector hub, the cover plate having a cover plate hole axially aligned with the chamber; and
a power interface set positioned in the chamber and including a connector adjacent the cover plate hole.
12. The assembly of claim 11 , wherein a maximum outer diameter of the power interface set is less than an inner diameter of the chamber such that an annular support gap is defined between the power interface set and the chamber wall.
13. The assembly of claim 12 , further comprising:
a casing is positioned in the annular support gap; and
a tubing collar positioned between the casing and the chamber wall.
14. The assembly of claim 11 , wherein the annular support gap is dimensioned for receiving a wall of a tube having a hollow interior into which the power interface set is received.
15. The assembly of claim 11 , wherein the power interface set includes magnetic materials that form a magnetic joint to strengthen the connection between the power interface set and an accessory electrical interface.
16. A method of assembling an electrical accessory and a support base, comprising:
inserting a tube of the electrical accessory into an annular support slot of the support base,
wherein the support base comprises a connector hub comprising a chamber wall that defines a chamber of the connector hub, and the annular support slot is defined between a power interface set and the chamber wall;
moving a baffle from a first position away from the chamber wall to a second position nearer the chamber wall, in the annular support slot, by compressing a baffle spring, wherein the baffle spring is positioned between the baffle and a flange; and
contacting a connector of an accessory electrical interface housed in the tube with a corresponding connector of the power interface set to electrically connect the power interface set to the accessory electrical interface.
17. The method of claim 16 , wherein the step of contacting the connector of the accessory electrical interface with the connector of the power interface set comprises:
coupling the tube to the power interface set such that the power interface set is received within an opening formed in the tube.
18. The method of claim 16 , further comprising:
installing the support base in a furniture item prior to the step of inserting the tube of the electrical accessory into the annular support slot.
19. The method of claim 16 , wherein the electrical accessory is a lamp.
