Abstract

An indoor, stationary, bicycle training device that provides advantages over conventional designs of exercise bicycles is provided. The stationary bicycle may include a tilting/pivoting mechanism to orient the indoor bicycle to simulate descending or climbing. The indoor bicycle may include flexible and resilient frame elements to support the indoor training device to move side-to-side under some riding situations thereby simulating the side-to-side swaying motion of an outdoor bicycle under the same riding situations. The indoor bicycle may include several combinations of frame adjustments to provide configurable dimensions of the indoor bicycle to adjust the frame to properly fit the rider, which may be adjusted based on corresponding dimensions of a user's outdoor bicycle. Still other aspects of the stationary bicycle device may aid in creating an “outdoor” feeling while using the device.

Claims (30)

1. An adjustable indoor bicycle device comprising:

a vertical post comprising a lower end and an upper end, wherein a height of the vertical post is adjustable;

a top tube extending forwardly from the upper end of the vertical post, the top tube comprising a forward end and a rearward end;

a seat assembly comprising a rearward adjustable arm, an upright seat post, and a seat, the seat assembly coupled with the rearward end of the top tube to adjustably extend the seat assembly forwardly or rearwardly relative to the rearward end of the top tube; and

a handlebar assembly comprising a forward adjustable arm, an upright handlebar post, and a handlebar, the handlebar assembly coupled with the forward end of the top tube to adjustably extend the handlebar assembly forwardly or rearwardly relative to the forward end of the top tube;

wherein the forward adjustable arm and the rearward adjustable arm are colinear on an axis and extend forwardly or rearwardly from the top tube to alter a length between the upright seat post and the upright handlebar post.

2. The adjustable indoor bicycle device of claim 1 further comprising:

a crank arm connecting a pedal to a first end of a crank axle, the crank arm comprising a plurality of threaded pedal holes disposed in an arcuate arrangement along an end of the crank arm, wherein engagement of the pedal with the one of the plurality of threaded pedal holes defines a crank length.

3. The adjustable indoor bicycle device of claim 2 wherein the seat is adjustably coupled to the upright seat post.

4. The adjustable indoor bicycle device of claim 3 wherein the handlebar is adjustably coupled to the upright handlebar post.

5. The adjustable indoor bicycle device of claim 4 wherein the adjustable indoor bicycle defines seven adjustments to dimensionally configure the indoor bicycle device.

6. The adjustable indoor bicycle device of claim 1 wherein the vertical post is pivotally supported and further comprising a tilting shaft operably coupled with the vertical post, the tilting shaft to pivot the post forwardly to simulate a descending riding position or pivot the post rearwardly to simulate a climbing riding position.

7. The adjustable indoor bicycle device of claim 6 further configured to receive a climbing or descending adjustment setting and cause the tilting shaft to pivot the post rearwardly or forwardly responsive thereto.

8. The adjustable indoor bicycle of claim 1 wherein the rearward adjustable arm extending from the rearward end of the top tube telescopically couples to the rearward end of the top tube.

9. The adjustable indoor bicycle device of claim 1 wherein a distance from the seat assembly to the rearward end of the top tube, a distance from the handlebar assembly to the forward end of the top tube, and the height of the vertical post are adjustable.

10. An adjustable indoor bicycle device comprising:

a vertically oriented post; and

a top tube coupled to the vertically oriented post, the top tube comprising:

a seat assembly comprising a rearward adjustable arm, an upright seat post, and a seat, the seat assembly adjustably coupled within a rearward end of the top tube to adjust the seat assembly forwardly or rearwardly relative to the top tube; and

a handlebar assembly comprising a forward adjustable arm, an upright handlebar post, and a handlebar, the handlebar assembly adjustably coupled within a forward end of the top tube to adjust the handlebar assembly forwardly or rearwardly relative to the top tube;

wherein the forward adjustable arm and the rearward adjustable arm are colinear on an axis and extend forwardly or rearwardly from the top tube to alter a length between the seat assembly and the handlebar assembly.

11. The adjustable indoor bicycle device of claim 10 wherein the upright seat post telescopically extends from the rearward adjustable arm and supports the seat; wherein the upright handlebar post telescopically extends from the forward adjustable arm and supports the handlebar.

12. The adjustable indoor bicycle device of claim 10 , wherein the vertically oriented post comprises a lower end coupled to a foot that engages a surface, the vertically oriented post extending from the foot at an angle with the surface.

13. The adjustable indoor bicycle device of claim 12 wherein the vertically oriented post is pivotally coupled with the foot.

14. The adjustable indoor bicycle device of claim 13 , further comprising:

a linear actuator coupled with the vertically oriented post to adjust the angle of the vertically oriented post relative to the surface.

15. The adjustable indoor bicycle device of claim 10 further comprising an adjustable frame with seven degrees of dimensional adjustment.

16. The adjustable indoor bicycle device of claim 10 further comprising:

a crank arm comprising a plurality of threaded pedal holes disposed in an arcuate arrangement along an end of the crank arm, wherein engagement of a pedal with the one of the plurality of threaded pedal holes defines a crank length.

17. The adjustable indoor bicycle device of claim 16 further comprising an adjustable frame with eight degrees of dimensional adjustment.
