Abstract

A method of controlling tint of a tintable window to account for occupant comfort in a room of a building. The tintable window is between the interior and exterior of the building. The method predicts a tint level for the tintable window at a future time based on a penetration depth of direct sunlight through the tintable window into the room at the future time and space type in the room. The method also provides instructions over a network to transition tint of the tintable window to the tint level.

Claims (13)

1. An apparatus for controlling tint of one or more tintable windows comprising at least one controller configured to:

(a) communicatively couple to the one or more tintable window;

(b) receive, or direct receipt of, a schedule generated by a user in which the user selects an occupancy lookup table that comprises spatial occupancy configuration of a space in which the one or more tintable windows are disposed; and

(c) instruct, or direct instructing, the one or more tintable windows to transition or maintain the tint based at least in part on the schedule.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the spatial occupancy configuration comprises (I) an arrangement of internal building elements, (II) an arrangement of a desk and/or a wall, and/or (III) an arrangement of a workspace.

3. A method of controlling tint of one or more tintable windows, the method comprising:

(a) receiving a schedule generated by a user in which the user selects an occupancy lookup table that comprises spatial occupancy configuration of a space in which the one or more tintable windows are disposed; and

(b) transitioning or maintaining the tint based at least in part on the schedule.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the spatial occupancy configuration comprises (I) an arrangement of internal building elements, (II) an arrangement of a desk and/or a wall, and/or (III) an arrangement of a workspace.

5. A non-transitory computer readable media for controlling tint of one or more tintable windows, the non-transitory computer readable media, when read by at least one processor, is configured to execute operations comprising:

(a) receiving, or direct receiving, a schedule generated by a user in which the user selects an occupancy lookup table that comprises spatial occupancy configuration of a space in which the one or more tintable windows are disposed; and

(b) instructing, or direct instructing, the one or more tintable windows to transition or maintain the tint based at least in part on the schedule.

6. The non-transitory computer readable media of claim 5 , wherein the spatial occupancy configuration comprises (I) an arrangement of internal building elements, (II) an arrangement of a desk and/or a wall, and/or (III) an arrangement of a workspace.
