Abstract

According to the present disclosure, a patient support system includes patient support tops for accommodating various body positions of a patient occupying the patient support tops. The patient support system may include various features to accommodate patient body positioning to facilitate surgical access.

Claims (31)

1. A surgical patient support system, comprising

a tower base including a pair of spaced apart support towers,

a first support top having a head end and a foot end, the first support top being configured to support a patient,

a pair of support brackets, each support bracket of the pair of support brackets being configured for connection to a respective one of the support towers, and

a second support top including a frame extending between head and foot ends, wherein each of the pair of support brackets are configured to couple with a respective one of the head and foot ends of each of the first support top and the second support top to support the first and second support tops between the support towers, wherein the second support top is arranged substantially perpendicular to the first support top,

wherein the second support top comprises a patient support top including the frame and a pad, wherein the pad is unitary and includes a torso section having a first height above the frame and a leg section having a second height above the frame, the second height being greater than the first height such that the leg section is thicker than the torso section, wherein the torso section and the leg section are interconnected such that an upper surface of the pad on which a patient lies has a stepped configuration with a transition surface between the torso section and the leg section being vertical when an undersurface of the pad extending between terminal ends of the pad beneath both the torso and leg sections forms a horizontal flat plane, and

a repositionable axilla support device for movement along an entirety of the torso section but without being adjustable in height above the torso section when the undersurface of the pad forms the flat horizontal plane, wherein the transition surface is located in a middle region of the pad such that a space is defined above the torso section from the transition surface to the terminal end at the head end of the pad to accommodate the movement of the repositionable axilla support device.

The surgical patient support system of claim 1 , wherein the repositionable axilla support device includes a roller support connected to the patient support top and a support pad coupled to the roller support, the roller support supporting the support pad such that the support pad extends laterally across the patient support top.

3. The surgical patient support system of claim 2 , wherein the support pad extends laterally across the patient support top over the torso section of the pad, and the roller support is selectively locatable along the frame to a position corresponding to a patient's axilla.

4. The surgical patient support system of claim 3 , wherein a head end of the leg section prevents the support pad from being movable footwardly relative to the pad beyond a position overlying the torso section.

5. The surgical patient support system of claim 2 , wherein the support pad is substantially cylindrical in shape.

6. The surgical patient support system of claim 2 , wherein the roller support comprises a first roller support coupled to a first side of the frame and a second roller support coupled to a second side of the frame, and wherein the support pad extends between the first and second roller supports.

7. The surgical patient support system of claim 6 , wherein at least one of the first and second roller supports comprises a clamp configured to clamp onto the frame.

The surgical patient support system of claim 7 , wherein the frame comprises first and second longitudinally extending rails, the first and second roller support are coupled to the respective first and second longitudinally extending rails, and the clamp clamps onto at least one of the first and second longitudinally extending rails.

9. The surgical patient support system of claim 6 , wherein the support pad is rotatable relative to the first and second roller supports.

The surgical patient support system of claim 1 , wherein the torso section has a first uniform thickness defined by the first height from a torso section head end to a torso section foot end and wherein the leg section has a second uniform thickness defined by the second height from a leg section head end to a leg section foot end.

The surgical patient support system of claim 10 , wherein the torso section has the first uniform thickness defined by the first height from a first side of the pad to a second side of the pad and wherein the leg section has the second uniform thickness defined by the second height from the first side of the pad to the second side of the pad.

12. The surgical patient support system of claim 10 , wherein a first upper surface of the torso section is substantially parallel with, and offset from, a second upper surface of the leg section.

The surgical patient support system of claim 1 , wherein each of the pair of support brackets are configured with multiple coupling locations for coupling with a respective one of the head and foot ends of the second support top such that ends of the frame are able to be selectively coupled to the pair of support brackets at each of the multiple locations.

The surgical patient support system of claim 13 , wherein each bracket of the pair of brackets includes a pair of spaced apart bracket rails and further comprising connector pins extending between the bracket rails of the respective bracket of the pair of brackets, the frame being connected to the connector pins.

15. The surgical patient support system of claim 14 , further comprising a first tube coupled to a head end of the frame and a second tube coupled to a foot end of the frame, and wherein the connectors pins are received within the first and second tubes to couple the frame to the pair of brackets.

16. The surgical patient support system of claim 13 , wherein the head end support tower and foot end support tower are each vertically extendible and retractable to raise, lower, and tilt the frame relative to an underlying floor.

17. The surgical patient support system of claim 1 , wherein a width of the torso section from a first side to a second side of the pad is equivalent to a width of the leg section from the first side to the second side of the pad.

18. The surgical patient support system of claim 1 , wherein the torso section and the leg section cooperate to form a surgical mattress that extends substantially a full length of the frame.

19. The surgical patient support system of claim 1 , wherein a first length of the torso section in a longitudinal dimension of the frame is shorter than a second length of the leg section in the longitudinal dimension of the frame.

20. A surgical patient support system, comprising

a tower base including a pair of spaced apart support towers,

a first support top having a head end and a foot end, the first support top being configured to support a patient,

a pair of support brackets, each support bracket of the pair of support brackets being configured for connection to a respective one of the support towers, and

a second support top including a frame extending between head and foot ends, wherein each of the pair of support brackets are configured to couple with a respective one of the head and foot ends of each of the first support top and the second support top to support the first and second support tops between the support towers, wherein the second support top is arranged substantially perpendicular to the first support top,

wherein the second support top comprises the frame and a pad, wherein the pad includes a torso section having a first height above the frame and a leg section having a second height above the frame, the second height being greater than the first height.
