Abstract

Systems and methods to facilitate permanently marking a housing component for a fluid control system product is disclosed. The system comprises a first processor, a second processor, and a printer. The first processor is configured to receive fixed information. The second processor is configured to receive the fixed information from the first processor, generate variable information, control a laser engraver to engrave the fixed and variable information into a workpiece, generate an information packet including the fixed information and the variable information, and transmit the information packet to the first processor.

Claims (42)

1. A system for use in marking a plurality of regulators used for controlling a flow of liquid propane gas, the system comprising:

a first processor configured to receive fixed information; and

a second processor configured to:

receive the fixed information from the first processor,

generate a plurality of sets of variable information,

control a laser engraver to engrave the fixed information and one of the plurality of sets of variable information on a first regulator of the plurality of regulators,

generate an information packet including the fixed information and the one of the plurality of sets of variable information,

transmit the information packet to the first processor for later use by the system, and

update the variable information for a subsequent regulator of the plurality of regulators.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein each regulator in the plurality of regulators has a paint layer and a base layer and the laser engraver is configured to engrave through the paint layer and into the base layer.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the laser engraver is configured to engrave each regulator of the plurality of regulators to a depth between 5/1000 inch and 10/1000 inch, inclusive.

4. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a memory configured to store the information packet in a database.

5. The system of claim 4 , wherein the database comprises a plurality of columns and a plurality of rows, and wherein each row of the plurality of rows indicates the information packet of a particular regulator of the plurality of regulators engraved by the laser engraver.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the fixed information includes at least one of a part name, a part number, a brand name, and a pressure rating.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the variable information includes at least one of an identification number and a manufacturing timestamp.

8. A system for use in marking a plurality of regulators used for controlling a flow of liquid propane gas, the system comprising:

a programmable logic controller configured to receive fixed information;

a laser engraver controller in communication with the programmable logic controller and configured to:

receive the fixed information from the programmable logic controller,

generate different sets of variable information, wherein each set of variable information corresponds to one regulator in the plurality of regulators,

generate a plurality of information packets, each information packet including the fixed information and one of the sets of variable information, and

send the information packet to the programmable logic controller; and

a laser engraver controlled by the laser engraver controller and configured to engrave each regulator of the plurality of regulators with the fixed information and one of the sets of variable information.

9. The system of claim 8 , wherein each regulator comprises a bonnet having a paint layer, a metallic coating layer, and a base layer; and the laser engraver is configured to engrave through the paint layer and the metallic coating layer and into the base layer of the bonnet.

10. The system of claim 9 , wherein the laser engraver is configured to engrave each regulator of the plurality of regulators to a depth between 5/1000 inch and 10/1000 inch, inclusive.

11. The system of claim 8 , wherein the fixed information includes at least one of a part name, a part number, a brand name, and a pressure rating; and each set of variable information includes at least one of an identification number and a manufacturing timestamp.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the laser engraver controller is configured to update the identification number for each subsequent regulator of the plurality of regulators, and update the manufacturing timestamp according to an update schedule.

13. The system of claim 8 , further comprising a memory of the programmable logic controller configured to store the information packet in a database, wherein the database comprises a plurality of columns and a plurality of rows, and wherein each row of the plurality of rows indicates the information packet of a particular regulator engraved by the laser engraver.

14. A set of regulators, wherein each regulator is used to control a flow of liquid propane gas, and each regulator of the set of regulators is engraved by a process comprising the steps of:

receiving, with a first processor, fixed information;

receiving, with a second processor, the fixed information from the first processor;

generating, with the second processor, variable information;

controlling, with the second processor, a laser engraver to engrave the fixed and variable information into a first regulator of the set of regulators;

generating, with the second processor, an information packet including the fixed information and the variable information;

transmitting, with the second processor, the information packet to the first processor; and

updating, with the second processor, the variable information for one or more subsequent regulators of the set of regulators.

15. The set of regulators of claim 14 , wherein each regulator of the set of regulators has a paint layer and a base layer, and each regulator is engraved by the laser engraver through the paint layer and into the base layer.

16. The set of regulators of claim 14 , wherein each regulator of the set of regulators comprises a bonnet, and each bonnet is engraved by the laser engraver to a depth between 5/1000 inch and 10/1000 inch, inclusive.

17. The set of regulators of claim 14 , wherein each regulator comprises a bonnet having a paint layer, a metallic coating layer, and a base layer; and each bonnet is engraved by the laser engraver through the paint layer and the metallic coating layer and into the base layer.

18. The set of regulators of claim 17 , wherein each bonnet is engraved by the laser engraver to a depth between 5/1000 inch and 10/1000 inch, inclusive.

19. The set of regulators of claim 14 , wherein the fixed information includes at least one of a part name, a part number, a brand name, and a pressure rating.

20. The set of regulators of claim 14 , wherein the variable information includes at least one of an identification number and a manufacturing timestamp.
