Abstract

Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to administration of an electronic survey via third-party content. For example, an electronic survey system receives a request to provide an electronic survey within a survey placeholder of a third-party webpage provided to a client device associated with a respondent. The survey system determines characteristics of the webpage or the respondent. The survey system then selects an electronic survey by comparing the characteristics of available electronic surveys to the characteristics of the webpage or the respondent. Additionally, the survey system provides electronic questions from the selected electronic survey for display within the survey placeholder of the webpage. The survey system also administers the electronic survey within the survey placeholder without redirecting the respondent client device away from the third-party webpage.

Claims (54)

1. A method comprising:

generating, by a survey system, executable code to embed within third-party content provided by a third-party content provider, the executable code associated with an electronic survey within the survey system;

receiving, by the survey system, a first request based on a first respondent client device accessing the third-party content from the third-party content provider via a network and executing the executable code embedded within the third-party content to generate the first request;

sending, by the survey system, an electronic survey question from the electronic survey to the first respondent client device for display within the third-party content based on receiving the first request;

receiving, by the survey system and from an administrator client device, one or more edits to the electronic survey question to generate a modified electronic survey question for the electronic survey that is associated with the executable code;

receiving, by the survey system, a second request based on a second respondent client device accessing the third-party content from the third-party content provider via the network and executing the executable code embedded within the third-party content to generate the second request; and

sending, by the survey system, the modified digital survey question from the electronic survey to the second respondent client device for display within the third-party content based on receiving the second request.

2. The method as recited in claim 1 , further comprising associating the modified electronic survey question with the executable code that was previously embedded in the third-party content based on receiving the one or more edits.

3. The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein the executable code comprises an application program interface call.

4. The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein the executable code comprises JavaScript.

5. The method as recited in claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving, by the survey system and from the first respondent client device, a response to the electronic survey question; and

based on the response to the electronic survey question, sending, by the survey system, an additional electronic survey question to the first respondent client device.

6. The method as recited in claim 1 , further comprising:

analyzing information received with the first request to determine characteristics associated with the first respondent client device; and

selecting the electronic survey question from a plurality of potential electronic survey questions within the electronic survey based on the characteristics associated with the first respondent client device.

7. The method as recited in claim 1 , wherein sending, by the survey system, the electronic survey question from the electronic survey to the first respondent client device causes the first respondent client device to display the electronic survey question within a placeholder position within the third-party content.

8. A non-transitory computer readable storage media storing instructions thereon that, when executed by at least one processor, cause a computing device to:

generate, by a survey system, executable code to embed within third-party content provided by a third-party content provider, the executable code associated with an electronic survey within the survey system;

receive, by the survey system, a first request based on a first respondent client device accessing the third-party content from the third-party content provider via a network and executing the executable code embedded within the third-party content to generate the first request;

send, by the survey system, an electronic survey question from the electronic survey to the first respondent client device for display within the third-party content based on receiving the first request;

receive, by the survey system and from an administrator client device, one or more edits to the electronic survey question to generate a modified electronic survey question for the electronic survey that is associated with the executable code;

receive, by the survey system, a second request based on a second respondent client device accessing the third-party content from the third-party content provider via the network and executing the executable code embedded within the third-party content to generate the second request; and

send, by the survey system, the modified digital survey question from the electronic survey to the second respondent client device for display within the third-party content based on receiving the second request.

9. The non-transitory computer readable storage media as recited in claim 8 , further comprising instructions that, when executed by at least one processor, cause the computing device to associate the modified electronic survey question with the executable code that was previously embedded in the third-party content based on receiving the one or more edits.

10. The non-transitory computer readable storage media as recited in claim 8 , wherein the executable code comprises an application program interface call.

11. The non-transitory computer readable storage media as recited in claim 8 , further comprising instructions that, when executed by at least one processor, cause the computing device to:

receive the one or more edits to a question portion of the electronic survey question or an answer portion of the electronic survey question; and

generate, in response to the one or more edits, the modified electronic survey question comprising a modified question portion or a modified answer portion.

12. The non-transitory computer readable storage media as recited in claim 8 , further comprising instructions that, when executed by at least one processor, cause the computing device to:

receive, by the survey system and from the first respondent client device, a response to the electronic survey question; and

based on the response to the electronic survey question, send, by the survey system, an additional electronic survey question to the first respondent client device.

13. The non-transitory computer readable storage media as recited in claim 8 , further comprising instructions that, when executed by at least one processor, cause the computing device to:

analyze information received with the first request to determine characteristics associated with the first respondent client device; and

select the electronic survey question from a plurality of potential electronic survey questions within the electronic survey based on the characteristics associated with the first respondent client device.

14. A system comprising:

at least one processor; and

a non-transitory computer readable storage medium comprising instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to:

generate, by a survey system, executable code to embed within third-party content provided by a third-party content provider, the executable code associated with an electronic survey within the survey system;

receive, by the survey system, a first request based on a first respondent client device accessing the third-party content from the third-party content provider via a network and executing the executable code embedded within the third-party content to generate the first request;

send, by the survey system, an electronic survey question from the electronic survey to the first respondent client device for display within the third-party content based on receiving the first request;

receive, by the survey system and from an administrator client device, one or more edits to the electronic survey question to generate a modified electronic survey question for the electronic survey that is associated with the executable code;

receive, by the survey system, a second request based on a second respondent client device accessing the third-party content from the third-party content provider via the network and executing the executable code embedded within the third-party content to generate the second request; and

send, by the survey system, the modified digital survey question from the electronic survey to the second respondent client device for display within the third-party content based on receiving the second request.

15. The system as recited in claim 14 , further comprising instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to associate the modified electronic survey question with the executable code that was previously embedded in the third-party content based on receiving the one or more edits.

16. The system as recited in claim 14 , wherein the executable code comprises an application program interface call.

17. The system as recited in claim 14 , wherein the executable code comprises JavaScript.

18. The system as recited in claim 14 , further comprising instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to:

receive, by the survey system and from the first respondent client device, a response to the electronic survey question; and

based on the response to the electronic survey question, send, by the survey system, an additional electronic survey question to the first respondent client device.

19. The system as recited in claim 14 , further comprising instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to:

analyze information received with the first request to determine characteristics associated with the first respondent client device; and

select the electronic survey question from a plurality of potential electronic survey questions within the electronic survey based on the characteristics associated with the first respondent client device.

20. The system as recited in claim 14 , wherein sending, by the survey system, the electronic survey question from the electronic survey to the first respondent client device causes the first respondent client device to display the electronic survey question within a placeholder position within the third-party content.
