Abstract

A method for discontinuous reception (DRX) is disclosed. The method comprises receiving, by a user equipment (UE), a DRX configuration to configure a DRX Inactivity Timer (drx-InactivityTimer), from a base station (BS), receiving, by the UE, an indication of a new transmission over a first physical downlink control channel (PDCCH), from the BS, and starting or restarting, by the UE, the DRX Inactivity Timer in a first symbol after an end of receiving the first PDCCH.

Claims (29)

1. A method for discontinuous reception (DRX), the method comprising:

receiving, by a user equipment (UE), a DRX configuration to configure a DRX inactivity timer from a base station (BS);

receiving, by the UE, an indication of a new transmission over a first physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) from the BS; and

starting or restarting, by the UE, the DRX inactivity timer in a first symbol after an end of the first PDCCH.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: stopping, by the UE, monitoring a second PDCCH in response to the DRX inactivity timer expiring within a time interval of the second PDCCH.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein an active time is defined by ON-cycles and comprises time indicated by at least the DRX inactivity timer.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising performing a Hybrid Automatic Repeat reQuest (HARQ) process and using an associated timer pertaining to downlink transmission.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising performing a Hybrid Automatic Repeat reQuest (HARQ) process and using an associated timer pertaining to uplink transmission.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the UE is configured to switch to a short DRX cycle after expiration of the DRX inactivity timer.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein a long DRX cycle is used.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein a parameter related to the DRX inactivity timer is specified in units of PDCCH subframes.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein a parameter related to the DRX inactivity timer is specified in units of milliseconds.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein a medium access control entity associated with the UE is configured via radio resource control signaling.

11. A user equipment (UE), comprising:

a processor, configured to execute computer-executable instructions; and

a non-transitory machine-readable medium, coupled to the processor, and configured to store the computer-executable instructions, wherein the computer-executable instructions are executable by the processor to:

receive a discontinuous reception (DRX) configuration to configure a DRX inactivity timer from a base station (BS);

receive an indication of a new transmission over a first physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) from the BS; and

start or restart the DRX inactivity timer in a first symbol after an end of the first PDCCH.

12. The UE of claim 11 , wherein the computer-executable instructions are further executable by the processor to:

stop monitoring a second PDCCH in response to the DRX inactivity timer expiring within a time interval of the second PDCCH.

13. The UE of claim 11 , wherein an active time is defined by ON-cycles, the active time comprising time indicated by at least the DRX inactivity timer.

14. The UE of claim 11 , wherein the computer-executable instructions are further executable by the processor to perform a Hybrid Automatic Repeat reQuest (HARQ) process.

15. The UE of claim 14 , wherein a DRX downlink (DL) HARQ Round Trip Time (RTT) timer is associated with the HARQ process.

16. The UE of claim 11 , wherein the computer-executable instructions are further executable by the processor to switch to a short DRX cycle after the DRX inactivity timer expires.

17. The UE of claim 11 , wherein the computer-executable instructions are further executable by the processor to use a long DRX cycle.

18. The UE of claim 11 , wherein a configuration parameter related to the DRX inactivity timer is specified in units of PDCCH subframes.

19. The UE of claim 11 , wherein a configuration parameter related to the DRX inactivity timer is specified in units of milliseconds.

20. The UE of claim 11 , wherein a medium access control entity related to the processor is configured via radio resource control signaling.
