Abstract

The disclosure generally relates to wireless sensing nodes, energy harvesting, and energy charging. The disclosure also generally relates to reporting data gathered by the wireless sensing nodes to one or more network services.

Claims (37)

1. A method comprising:

receiving, by a wireless charging system, a data packet, the data packet comprising information describing an energy level of a tape node;

determining, by the wireless charging system, that the energy level of the tape node is below a threshold based on the information of the received data packet; and

delivering, by the wireless charging system, a focused radiofrequency (RF) charging beam to recharge the energy level of the tape node.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the wireless charging system receives the data packet responsive to transmitting a ping packet to the tape node.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the wireless charging system receives the data packet on a scheduled or periodic basis.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the data packet is transmitted directly by the tape node to the wireless charging system.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the tape node is a master node configured to:

receive one or more data packets from one or more peripheral nodes, and

transmit the received one or more data packets to the wireless charging system.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the master node is configured to, during a reconstruct phase: establish a current network environment based on a last state of the network environment stored in non-volatile memory; receive an optimized schedule of activities; transmit sets of coded instructions to perform scheduled activities to respective peripheral nodes in the environment; and store the sets of coded instructions in non-volatile memory.

7. The method of claim 5 , wherein one or more of the peripheral nodes are configured to, during an execute phase: execute sets of coded instructions stored by the respective one or more peripheral nodes in non-volatile memory.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the coded instructions comprise one or more of: an instruction to capture sensor data describing the physical environment;

an instruction to store data; and an instruction to transmit a data packet.

9. The method of claim 5 , wherein one or more of the master node and the peripheral nodes are configured to, during a reconstruction phase: determine results of coded instructions being executed; and transmit the determined results to a network server.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the tape node comprises a capacitive rechargeable energy source.

11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the wireless charging system is configured to deliver the focused RF charging beam to the tape on a scheduled basis.

12. The method of claim 1 , wherein the tape node comprises a circuit that harvests ambient RF energy.

13. The method of claim 1 , wherein the tape node is adhered or attached to a mobile structure and comprises an embedded motion sensor, the embedded motion sensor configured to generate electrical energy responsive to movement by the mobile structure.

14. The method of claim 1 , wherein the focused RF charging beam is directed, by the wireless charging system, to the tape node for a specified duration of time based at least in part on the energy level of the tape node.

15. A system comprising:

one or more tape nodes, the one or more tape nodes each comprising a rechargeable battery and configured to perform actions comprising:

receiving a ping packet requesting a status;

determining an energy level of the respective rechargeable battery; and

responsive to receiving the ping packet, transmitting a data packet describing the energy level of the respective rechargeable battery;

a wireless charging system, the wireless charging system comprising a receiver and a beam steering wireless charger and configured to perform actions comprising:

receiving the data packet describing the energy level of the respective rechargeable battery;

determining that the energy level is below a threshold; and

steering a focused radiofrequency (RF) charging beam to a tape node to recharge the energy level of the tape node.

16. The system of claim 15 , wherein the receiver comprises a flexible adhesive tape node comprising a receiver planar coil, a processor, a memory, a rechargeable energy source, and a wireless transceiver.

17. The system of claim 15 , wherein the beam steering wireless charger comprises a flexible adhesive tape node comprising a transmitter planar coil, a processor, a memory, an energy source, and a wireless transceiver, wherein the memory stores coded instructions.

18. The system of claim 15 , wherein the wireless charging system is configured to transmit the ping packet requesting a status to the one or more tape nodes on a scheduled or periodic basis.

19. The system of claim 15 , wherein the one or more tape nodes comprise a capacitive rechargeable energy source.

20. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing computer program instructions executable by one or more processors to perform operations comprising:

receiving, by a wireless charging system, a data packet, the data packet comprising information describing an energy level of a tape node;

determining, by the wireless charging system, that the energy level of the tape node is below a threshold based on the information of the received data packet; and

delivering, by the wireless charging system, a focused radiofrequency (RF) charging beam to recharge the energy level of the tape node.
