Abstract

The invention relates to a glenoid (shoulder socket) implant prosthesis, a humeral implant prosthesis, devices for implanting glenoid and humeral implant prostheses, and less invasive methods of their use for the treatment of an injured or damaged shoulder.

Claims (16)

1. A glenoid implant, comprising:

a circular body, having a medial surface, an articulating surface, a peripheral edge, and a central axis, a wall that extends axially from the peripheral edge along a circumference of the circular body, the wall having a circular cross section;

a post on the medial surface, disposed concentrically on the central axis;

at least one axially extending flange extending from the medial surface; and

at least one radially inwardly extending annular channel on the circular body that extends radially inward from the wall of the circular body.

2. A glenoid implant as in claim 1 , wherein the at least one flange extends around at least about 75% of the peripheral edge of the circular body.

A glenoid implant as in claim 1 , wherein the circular body has a first thickness measured in the axial direction at a first point on the peripheral edge, and a second thickness measured in the axial direction at a second point on the peripheral edge spaced apart from the first point by 180 degrees, and the first thickness is substantially equal to the second thickness.

A glenoid implant as in claim 1 , wherein the circular body has a first thickness measured in the axial direction at a first point on the peripheral edge, and a second thickness measured in the axial direction at a second point on the peripheral edge spaced apart from the first point by 180 degrees, wherein the first thickness is at least about 125% of the second thickness.

A glenoid implant as in claim 1 , wherein the circular body has a first thickness measured in the axial direction at a first point on the peripheral edge, and a second thickness measured in the axial direction at a second point on the peripheral edge spaced apart from the first point by 180 degrees, wherein the first thickness is at least about 150% of the second thickness.

A glenoid implant as in claim 1 , wherein the circular body has a first thickness measured in the axial direction at a first point on the peripheral edge, and a second thickness measured in the axial direction at a second point on the peripheral edge spaced apart from the first point by 180 degrees, wherein the first thickness is at least about 200% of the second thickness.

7. A glenoid implant, comprising:

a circular body, having a medial surface, an articulating surface, a peripheral edge, and a central axis, a wall that extends axially from the peripheral edge along a circumference of the circular body, the wall having a circular cross section;

a post on the medial surface, disposed concentrically on the central axis;

at least one radially inwardly extending annular channel on the circular body that extends radially inward from the wall of the circular body; and

a first thickness measured in the axial direction at a first point on the peripheral edge, and a second thickness measured in the axial direction at a second point on the peripheral edge spaced apart from the first point by 180 degrees;

wherein the first thickness is at least about 125% of the second thickness.
