Abstract

A messaging system for a live event is described. A processing device presents a live event having at least one participant. The processing device presents one or more participant messages within a messaging user interface associated with the event. The processing device also presents one or more viewer messages within the messaging user interface. The viewer messages are integrated with the participant messages.

each of the plurality of participants is playing the video game via an event application on a respective participant device connected to the event platform via a network,

each of the plurality of participants communicates, from within the event application and via a plurality of participant messages, with a plurality of viewers of the video game that are watching the stream of the video game on respective viewer devices connected to the event platform via the network and are entering a plurality of viewer messages while watching the stream of the video game,

the stream of the video game is presented on a screen of a participant device of a participant of the plurality of participants,

the stream of the video game is provided to a content platform for presentation to each viewer of the plurality of viewers via a content platform interface of the content platform on a respective viewer device,

the content platform is different from the event platform,

the content platform interface is a non-native interface with respect to the event platform, and

the content platform interface includes a first portion with a media player to present the stream of the video game to a respective viewer of the plurality of viewers, and a second portion to present the plurality of viewer messages including one or more viewer messages entered by the respective viewer via the content platform interface on a respective viewer device while the respective viewer watches the stream of the video game in the first portion of the content platform interface;

presenting, within the messaging user interface on the screen of the participant device of the participant, the plurality of participant messages of the plurality of participants playing the video game and the plurality of viewer messages of the plurality of viewers entered via the content platform interface while concurrently presenting the stream of the video game on the screen of the participant device of the participant,

wherein the viewer messages are integrated, synchronized, and presented concurrently with the participant messages in a chronological order within the messaging user interface on the screen of the participant device of the participant.

2. The method of claim 1 further comprising providing a set of configuration options to permit the participant to customize message presentation of the messaging user interface.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the set of configuration options comprises an option to permit the participant to input a request to segregate the plurality of participant messages from the plurality of viewer messages.

4. The method of claim 2 , wherein the set of configuration options comprises an option to permit the participant to configure an appearance of one or more participant messages.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the appearance is related to at least one of a font, color, typeset, style, size, or text effect.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving viewer messages entered via the content platform interface, the viewer messages being associated with different event identifiers; and

selecting one or more viewer messages corresponding to an event identifier of the video game for presentation within the messaging interface.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving participant messages associated with different event identifiers; and

selecting one or more participant messages corresponding to an event identifier of the video game for presentation within the messaging interface.

8. A system comprising:

a memory; and

a processing device coupled to the memory, the processing device to:

present a messaging user interface for a stream of a video game provided by an event platform, wherein:

each of the plurality of participants is playing the video game via an event application on a respective participant device connected to the event platform via a network,

each of the plurality of participants communicates, from within the event application and via a plurality of participant messages, with a plurality of viewers of the video game that are watching the stream of the video game on respective viewer devices connected to the event platform via the network and are entering a plurality of viewer messages while watching the stream of the video game,

the stream of the video game is presented on a screen of a participant device of a participant of the plurality of participants,

the stream of the video game is provided to a content platform for presentation to each viewer of the plurality of viewers via a content platform interface of the content platform on a respective viewer device,

the content platform is different from the event platform,

the content platform interface is a non-native interface with respect to the event platform, and

the content platform interface includes a first portion with a media player to present the stream of the video game to a respective viewer of the plurality of viewers, and a second portion to present the plurality of viewer messages including one or more viewer messages entered by the respective viewer via the content platform interface on a respective viewer device while the respective viewer watches the stream of the video game in the first portion of the content platform interface;

present, within the messaging user interface on the screen of the participant device of the participant, the plurality of participant messages of the plurality of participants playing the video game and the plurality of viewer messages of the plurality of viewers entered via the content platform interface while concurrently presenting the stream of the video game on the screen of the participant device of the participant,

wherein the viewer messages are integrated, synchronized, and presented concurrently with the participant messages in a chronological order within the messaging user interface on the screen of the participant device of the participant.

9. The system of claim 8 wherein the processing device is further to provide a set of configuration options to permit the participant to customize message presentation of the messaging user interface.

10. The system of claim 9 , wherein the set of configuration options comprises an option to permit the participant to input a request to segregate the plurality of participant messages from the plurality of viewer messages.

11. The system of claim 9 , wherein the set of configuration options comprises an option to permit the participant to configure an appearance of one or more participant messages.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the appearance is related to at least one of a font, color, typeset, style, size, or text effect.

13. The system of claim 9 , wherein the processing device is further to:

receive viewer messages entered via the content platform interface, the viewer messages being associated with different event identifiers; and

select one or more viewer messages corresponding to an event identifier of the video game for presentation within the messaging interface.

14. The system of claim 9 , wherein the processing device is further to:

receive participant messages associated with different event identifiers; and

select one or more participant messages corresponding to an event identifier of the video game for presentation within the messaging interface.

15. A non-transitory computer readable storage medium including instructions that, when executed by a processing device, cause the processing device to perform operations comprising:

presenting a messaging user interface for a stream of a video game provided by an event platform, wherein:

each of the plurality of participants is playing the video game via an event application on a respective participant device connected to the event platform via a network,

each of the plurality of participants communicates, from within the event application and via a plurality of participant messages, with a plurality of viewers of the video game that are watching the stream of the video game on respective viewer devices connected to the event platform via the network and are entering a plurality of viewer messages while watching the stream of the video game,
