Abstract

A method of negotiation of media between a source communication device and a destination communication device for multiplexing multiple media types on an IP transport address comprises the source communication device generating an offer message comprising an extension to the ICE protocol according to RFC 5245 to specify the IP transport address whereon the multiple media types can be multiplexed, wherein the offer message comprising the extension indicates support for both the multiplexing and a non-multiplexing of the multiple media types, and sending the offer message from the source communication device to the destination communication device.

Claims (35)

1 - 16 . (canceled)

17 . A computer-implemented method of negotiating media data, comprising:

generating an offer message with an extension identifying a protocol and a transport address for media data; and

sending the offer message to a computing device to establish a communication connection based on the extension without receiving multiplex capability information from the computing device.

18 . The computer-implemented method of claim 17 , wherein the offer message supports multiplexing and non-multiplexing.

19 . The computer-implemented method of claim 17 , further comprising:

receiving an answer message specifying at least one port for multiplexing.

20 . The computer-implemented method of claim 17 , further comprising:

receiving an answer message specifying at least two ports for non-multiplexing.

21 . The computer-implemented method of claim 17 , wherein the protocol is an Interactive Connectivity Establishment (ICE) protocol.

22 . The computer-implemented method of claim 17 , wherein the offer message is a Session Description Protocol (SDP) offer message.

23 . The computer-implemented method of claim 17 , wherein the extension initiates an SDP grouping mechanism for multiplexing data.

24 . A non-transitory, computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause:

generating an offer message with an extension identifying a protocol and a transport address for media data; and

sending the offer message to a computing device to establish a communication connection based on the extension without receiving multiplex capability information from the computing device.

25 . The non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 24 , wherein the offer message supports multiplexing and non-multiplexing.

26 . The non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 24 , further comprising:

receiving an answer message specifying at least one port for multiplexing.

27 . The non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 24 , further comprising:

receiving an answer message specifying at least two ports for non-multiplexing.

28 . The non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 24 , wherein the protocol is an Interactive Connectivity Establishment (ICE) protocol.

29 . The non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 24 , wherein the offer message is a Session Description Protocol (SDP) offer message.

30 . The non-transitory, computer-readable medium of claim 24 , wherein the extension initiates an SDP grouping mechanism for multiplexing data.

31 . A system for negotiating media data, comprising:

a processor;

a memory operatively connected to the processor and storing instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause:

generating an offer message with an extension identifying a protocol and a transport address for media data; and

sending the offer message to a computing device to establish a communication connection based on the extension without receiving multiplex capability information from the computing device.

32 . The system of claim 31 , wherein the memory stores additional instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause:

receiving an answer message specifying at least one port for multiplexing.

33 . The system of claim 31 , wherein the memory stores additional instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause:

receiving an answer message specifying at least two ports for non-multiplexing.

34 . The system of claim 31 , wherein the protocol is an Interactive Connectivity Establishment (ICE) protocol.

35 . The system of claim 31 , wherein the offer message is a Session Description Protocol (SDP) offer message.

36 . The system of claim 31 , wherein the extension initiates an SDP grouping mechanism for multiplexing data.
