Abstract

Disclosed are various embodiments for integrating client applications with hosted applications. For example, an email can be received from an email client. It can then be determined whether the email is associated with a hosted application. In response to a determination that the email is associated with the hosted application, a request can be made to a connector for a calendar object. The calendar object is then received and returned to the email client.

Claims (65)

1. A system, comprising:

a computing device comprising a processor and a memory; and

machine-readable instructions stored in the memory that, when executed by the processor, cause the computing device to at least:

receive an email from an email client;

determine that the email is associated with a hosted application;

request a calendar object from a connector to the application in response to a determination that the email is associated with the application;

receive the calendar object, the calendar object comprising a due date for a task specified in the email and a label for the task; and

return the calendar object to the email client.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the machine-readable instructions further cause the computing device to at least:

determine that the hosted application is included in a user provided list of applications; and

the request for the calendar object is made in response to a determination that the hosted application is included in a user provided list of applications.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the email client is configured to:

present a prompt to a user of the email client, the prompt requesting that the user create a calendar reminder; and

in response to a user interaction with the prompt, add a calendar reminder associated with the task to a calendar maintained by the email client, the calendar reminder comprising the due date for the task and the label for the task.

4. The system of claim 3 , wherein the email client is further configured to:

determine that a current date is later than the due date for the task associated with the calendar reminder; and

remove the calendar reminder from the calendar in response to a determination that the current date is later than the due date.

5. The system of claim 3 , wherein the email client is further configured to:

determine that the current date is prior to the due date for the task associated with the calendar reminder; and

cause a reminder notification to be rendered on the display of the computing device.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the machine-readable instructions that cause the computing device to determine that the email is associated with the hosted application further cause the computing device to:

identify a domain for the sender of the email; and

match the domain with the hosted application.

7. A method, comprising:

receiving an email from an email client;

determining that the email is associated with a hosted application;

requesting a calendar object from a connector to the application in response to a determination that the email is associated with the application;

receiving the calendar object, the calendar object comprising a due date for a task specified in the email and a label for the task; and

returning the calendar object to the email client.

8. The method of claim 7 , further comprising:

determining that the hosted application is included in a user provided list of applications; and

the request for the calendar object is made in response to a determination that the hosted application is included in a user provided list of applications.

9. The method of claim 7 , wherein the email client is configured to:

present a prompt to a user of the email client, the prompt requesting that the user create a calendar reminder; and

in response to a user interaction with the prompt, add a calendar reminder associated with the task to a calendar maintained by the email client, the calendar reminder comprising the due date for the task and the label for the task.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the email client is further configured to:

determine that a current date is later than the due date for the task associated with the calendar reminder; and

remove the calendar reminder from the calendar in response to a determination that the current date is later than the due date.

11. The method of claim 9 , wherein the email client is further configured to:

determine that the current date is prior to the due date for the task associated with the calendar reminder; and

cause a reminder notification to be rendered on the display of the computing device.

12. The method of claim 7 , wherein determining that the email is associated with the hosted application further comprises:

identifying a domain for the sender of the email; and

matching the domain with the hosted application.

13. A non-transitory, computer readable medium comprising machine-readable instructions that, when executed by a processor of a computing device, cause the computing device to at least:

receive an email from an email client;

determine that the email is associated with a hosted application;

request a calendar object from a connector to the application in response to a determination that the email is associated with the application;

receive the calendar object, the calendar object comprising a due date for a task specified in the email and a label for the task; and

return the calendar object to the email client.

14. The non-transitory, computer readable medium of claim 13 , wherein the machine-readable instructions further cause the computing device to at least:

determine that the hosted application is included in a user provided list of applications; and

the request for the calendar object is made in response to a determination that the hosted application is included in a user provided list of applications.

15. The non-transitory, computer readable medium of claim 13 , wherein the email client is configured to:

present a prompt to a user of the email client, the prompt requesting that the user create a calendar reminder; and

in response to a user interaction with the prompt, add a calendar reminder associated with the task to a calendar maintained by the email client, the calendar reminder comprising the due date for the task and the label for the task.

16. The non-transitory, computer readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the email client is further configured to:

determine that a current date is later than the due date for the task associated with the calendar reminder; and

remove the calendar reminder from the calendar in response to a determination that the current date is later than the due date.

17. The non-transitory, computer readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the email client is further configured to:

determine that the current date is prior to the due date for the task associated with the calendar reminder; and

cause a reminder notification to be rendered on the display of the computing device.

18. The non-transitory, computer readable medium of claim 13 , wherein the machine-readable instructions that cause the computing device to determine that the email is associated with the hosted application further cause the computing device to:

identify a domain for the sender of the email; and

match the domain with the hosted application.
