Abstract

Systems and methods are disclosed for evaluating a patient with vascular disease. One method includes receiving patient-specific data regarding a geometry of the patient's vasculature; creating an anatomic model representing at least a portion of a location of disease in the patient's vasculature based on the received patient-specific data; identifying one or more changes in geometry of the anatomic model based on a modeled progression or regression of disease at the location; calculating one or more values of a blood flow characteristic within the patient's vasculature using a computational model based on the identified one or more changes in geometry of the anatomic model; and generating an electronic graphical display of a relationship between the one or more values of the calculated blood flow characteristic and the identified one or more changes in geometry of the anatomic model.

determining, based on the computed value of the vessel characteristic, functional significance of a disease at the diseased region.

4 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:

modifying the geometry of the patient-specific anatomic model further based on a location of the diseased region in the patient's vasculature, hemodynamic forces, intramural stress, or a combination thereof.

5 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:

determining a propensity of the plaque at the diseased region at the first point of time to progress or regress; and

predicting the change to the geometric parameter of the diseased region at the second point of time further based on the determined propensity of the plaque in the patient's vasculature to progress or regress.

6 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the vessel characteristic comprises a characteristic of blood pressure.

7 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the vessel characteristic comprises a fractional flow reserve.

8 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the characteristic of plaque comprises a plaque volume.

9 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the characteristic of plaque comprises a plaque type.

10 . A system for evaluating a patient with vascular disease, the system comprising:

at least one data storage device storing instructions for evaluating a patient with vascular disease; and
