Abstract

An apparatus and a method are provided for an aircharger air intake system for filtering and conducting an airstream to an air intake of an engine. The aircharger air intake system includes an air filter comprising a filter medium configured to entrap particulates flowing within the airstream. An air box comprising one or more sidewalls and a mount wall is configured to support the air filter within an engine bay. The air box is configured to be mounted, or fastened, onto the engine. An intake tube is coupled with the air filter and configured to conduct the airstream to the air intake of the engine. The intake tube is configured to be coupled with an air temperature sensor or a mass air sensor of the engine. An adapter is configured to couple the intake tube with the air intake.

Claims (25)

1. An air intake system for an internal combustion engine, comprising:

an air filter for filtering an airstream into an air intake of the engine;

an intake tube for conducting the airstream from the air filter to the air intake; and

a breather plate for coupling the intake tube with the air intake a velocity stack portion comprising the breather plate is configured for directing the airstream into the air intake of the engine.

2. The air intake system of claim 1 , wherein the air filter is coupled with the intake tube by way of a suitable fastener.

3. The air intake system of claim 1 , wherein the breather plate is configured to be fastened to the engine by way of a pair of bolts extending through mount portions of the breather plate.

4. The air intake system of claim 1 , wherein the intake tube and the breather plate are comprised of a rigid material capable of withstanding the temperature and air pressure associated with operation of the engine without becoming deformed or otherwise damaged.

5. The air intake system of claim 1 , wherein the intake tube and the breather plate are comprised of suitable aluminum alloys and the bolts are comprised of alloy chrome steel.

6. The air intake system of claim 5 , wherein the intake tube is configured to be aesthetically pleasing.

7. The air intake system of claim 1 , wherein the breather plate is configured to be coupled to the air intake by way of a plurality of suitable fasteners.

8. The air intake system of claim 7 , wherein the fasteners may be passed through countersunk holes disposed in the breather plate and engaged with threaded holes in the air intake.

9. The air intake system of claim 7 , wherein the breather plate is configured to mate with a shape and a size of the air intake.

10. An air intake system for an internal combustion engine, comprising:

a filter back plate for coupling with an air intake of the engine;

an air filter disposed between the filter back plate and a filter lid; and

a velocity stack for sealing the filter back plate to the air intake.

11. The air intake system of claim 10 , wherein the filter back plate and the filter lid are comprised of a rigid material capable of withstanding the temperature and air pressure associated with operation of the engine without becoming damaged or deformed.

12. The air intake system of claim 11 , wherein the rigid material comprises a suitable aluminum alloy.

13. The air intake system of claim 10 , wherein the velocity stack is configured for establishing a seal between the filter back plate and the air intake.

14. The air intake system of claim 10 , wherein the velocity stack is configured for directing an airstream through an air opening in the filter back plate into the air intake.

15. The air intake system of claim 10 , wherein the velocity stack is configured to receive one or more fasteners for coupling the velocity stack and the filter back plate with the air intake.

16. The air intake system of claim 10 , wherein the air filter includes a cap for coupling the filter lid to the air filter.

17. The air intake system of claim 16 , wherein the cap includes a threaded hole for receiving a fastener that may be inserted through a hole disposed in the filter lid for fixedly coupling the filter lid to the cap.

18. The air intake system of claim 10 , wherein the filter lid is configured to be an air scoop and the filter back plate is configured to comprise an air scoop base.

19. The air intake system of claim 18 , wherein the air scoop base is coupled with the air intake by way of a breather plate.
